A Cobh pub crawl may be in order if the weather cooperates. Your Belfast tour sounds great. Will be interested in your day in Cobh. We're visiting with Serenade in July. My research shows its a grand town to wander around so that's what we'll be doing as its our first visit.
Rare twangster Posted May 27 Author #427 Share Posted May 27 Arriving into Cobh. We sail around some sort of fort on the outskirts of town. The channel snakes its way around in a big curve. Our final destination for the day. Here we do a 180° turn and slide over to the pier. Train to Cork is very convenient. Not a terrible view from the balcony today. Frogger agrees.
Rare twangster Posted May 27 Author #428 Share Posted May 27 I’m not too sure about the pubs in Cobh. They serve empty glasses.

Both ships received safety improvements after the sinking of Titanic. Olympic was retrofitted while Britannica was redesigned as she was under construction. Both ships participated in the First World War. Britannica was lost after striking a mine having never entered commercial service in her intended role. Olympic reentered commercial transatlantic service after the war in 1920 and had a successful career as a luxury liner where she was dubbed 'The Ship Magnificent'. She was eventually scrapped in 1935. Very interesting. Thanks very much. ☺️
Rare bobmacliberty Posted May 27 #430 Share Posted May 27 The museum sounds fascinating and is right up my alley. I'll have to find a reason to get there some day. I saw a video a few months ago trying to prove that it was in fact Olympic that sank rather than Titanic. I don't remember the details but for some reason, the White Star Line secretly swapped the ships. Seems like a pretty far-fetched conspiracy theory. Was there any discussion of this?

Rare twangster Posted May 27 Author #432 Share Posted May 27 (edited) Seems like there have been some ships here before. Different pub, another empty glass! Live authentic Irish pub music Edited May 27 by twangster

I'm not sure I've seen this drink of the day before. As a wine drinker this sounds like a terrible idea. 🤣 Has anyone tried this before? Yuck indeed. 🤢

Rare island lady Posted May 27 #435 Share Posted May 27 Yet another fantastic tour with great narrations and pictures! Fascinating history for sure. Though I am worried about those empty glasses they keep giving you. 😄

Rare twangster Posted May 27 Author #438 Share Posted May 27 More pics to come but first an itinerary change. The tender visit tomorrow to Waterford has been cancelled due to winds. Instead there will be a sea day tomorrow. Day 15 we will visit Bruges (Zeebrugge), Belgium. 5
tomcherv Posted May 27 #439 Share Posted May 27 And Cobb was the last stop for Titanic. Though she did not enter the harbor as you did. Titanic anchored offshore and used a tender er, all in the name of time. Cobh also has a museum dedicated to Titanic. I was able to visit both museums, Belfast and Cobh, on my trip to Ireland two years ago. Thanks for the great photos.

Rare twangster Posted May 27 Author #441 Share Posted May 27 Self led walking tour of Cobh today. Not all the glasses were served empty.
Rare twangster Posted May 27 Author #442 Share Posted May 27 Ireland and Cobh has played a role in more than the Titanic tragedy. In May of 1915 the Lusitania was torpedoed just off the coast. Many of the survivors and dead were brought to shore here. 7

Rare twangster Posted May 27 Author #447 Share Posted May 27 The train to Cork leaves from the pier area across from the ship. My original plan was to leave enough time for the train ride to Cork but instead I felt the onset of a nap coming over me.
