Cabins under the Lido Deck

Recommended Posts

If anyone who has had a cabin under the Lido deck, can you tell me if it was noisy in your cabin?  We are light sleepers and the pool and exercise room are also on the Lido deck.  If I let Holland select the cabin, we could end up on deck 8 below the Lido, but if we pay an additional $500 per person, we can select our own cabin down on deck 6.  I'm just seeking opinions from anyone who has had the Lido directly above them.  Appreciate any and all replies.

It's hard to say, depends on the ship and what's right above. Being below the ping pong table was less than great. Assume the worst and decide if the money's worth it.

I was in cabin 8113 on the Nieuw Amsterdam in June. Although it was mostly under the carpeted area of the lido I could hear carts rumble overhead. There was also a loud random banging that sounded like a cupboard door being slammed shut. It happened at all hours - even 2am. I’m also a light sleeper and found that earplugs were enough to block it out.

We were under a small uncarpeted corner area of the Lido & heard chair/table scraping every night maybe around 10 pm so check the deck plans for the Lido deck & your room location under it....we had but didn't see it.

It's the Westerdam.

Just spent 30 days in 8051 on the Westerdam and enjoyed the cruise. There were only a few times we were bothered with noise from above when they rearranged chairs for something.

How ever I think we were lucky. Under the gym would be a big issue for me as it opens at 6:00 am and we say people just dropping weights (there were signs asking guest from not doing this), also under the galley could be a problem.

It's a safe bet that any cabin located on deck eight can/will have noise from above... either the forward Lido pool area, the entire Lido area, or aft Seaview pool.  We took a (nominal) paid upgrade to a mid-ship suite on Noordam, and I was woken by Lido noise very early each morning. No deck eight for us!

Saving money on a cabin is just not worth it sometimes. To me, a good quiet night sleep is priceless  if you have any doubts about the cabin, just don't do it.

DH is far from a light sleeper, but deck 8 was a 1 & done for him. He asked where they housed the herd of elephants 🐘 that ran amuck bumping into chairs and tables🫣🙄

We were aft below Seaview Pool & Bar.

We are booked in 8025 on the Zuiderdam (sister to Westerdam). It is under the Thermal Suite, and I think it will be quiet enough! I would never take a deck 8 that I couldn't choose myself -- horror stories of being under galley or pool deck with carts (galley) or lounge-chairs (deck) being dragged around overhead in the night-time hours!

We were under the Blues Club once; that was my one and done guarantee! And at least they stopped at 11:30pm each night...

Looks like up under the spa, but NOT the fitness center, and back under the restrooms across from the stairs before the pool would be quietest.

I use cruisedeckplans.com to get an idea.  Hasn't steered me wrong yet.

I have booked several Neptune Suites that were under the Lido deck. Lots of noise every time. Finally got fed up and swore never again. I’m very careful now to check above and below our selected cabin to ensure a quiet location.

I think it depends on the ship, with the newer ones being quieter. We have had several deck 8 cabins and they have become our location of choice - quick hike up the stairs to lido for food!  We avoid the elevators wherever possible.

Having said that I would avoid any under the aft pool area as these cabins could hear chair dragging very early in the morning. We too are light sleepers and I would stick to cabins forward.

My first HAL trip was on the Koningsdam last September, I was in an interior aft cabin under the Sea View Pool and I didn't hear any noises the entire time.

The only thing that did wake me up unexpectedly on that trip was the 3:30 AM in room emergency announcement from the captain and a follow up from the Cruise Director saying all is fine.

We were recently in #8048 on the Westerdam to Alaska, which was a guaranteed cabin booking, and I will never again take a guarantee or intentionally book a deck 8 cabin. Although there were very few kids on board, it seemed all of them held a track meet right above us until 11 pm every night. Or maybe it was a herd of water buffalos stampeding, because that's what it sounded like. We also heard a lot of the scraping of people moving tables and chairs around at all hours. Never again, its just not worth it. I will pick my own deck 4-5-6-7 cabin in the future.

It's worth it to choose your own if under Lido or above/near active areas (casino, world stage, bars). The Lido pool area (depending on ship) has chairs and tables (and cabanas) which crew drag and clean the deck at night and drag in morning for set up. The Lido buffet also has chairs dragged and vacuuming and cleaning mostly at night but the early morning could also by less. Pick your own under less traveled areas, like Canaletto.
