EllieinNJ Posted August 9 #1 Share Posted August 9 I guess it's now official. I was looking forward to Donna Summer. I've seen BTF many times on other ships so probably won't go.

david_sobe Posted August 9 #3 Share Posted August 9 That didn't last long. So Prima only has cruise line entertainment? I suppose we should not get too excited about Aqua and I wonder if Beetlejuice's days are numbered too. While Burn the Floor is ok for a second class act its not strong enough for top tier entertainment IMHO. Its over 10 years old and is featured on many NCL ships. Many NCL cruisers have seen it many times. Dancing is old school riverboat casino kind of entertainment. 7
ready2cruzagain Posted August 9 #4 Share Posted August 9 Seen BTF too many times and won't go to the show again. Sad.
Rare luv2kroooz Posted August 9 #5 Share Posted August 9 (edited) How "innovative" of NCL. Recycling a show that has been in service and has been seen over and again by many cruisers. Their "innovative" nightly entertainment in the theater is now recycling old headliner shows that are decades old, borrowing the same comedians that perform in the comedy club, borrowing the Beatles tribute band that performs in the Cavern Club, and adding some game shows. Wow! How boring. If you are cruising for nightly entertainment, lots better options out there. To each his own I suppose. willise Posted August 9 #6 Share Posted August 9 We are doing 15 nights on the Prima, and were really looking forward to the Donna Summer show. Like everyone else, we've seen BTF numerous times and while we "may" go to this one, the likelihood is that we won't.
Beer Belly Posted August 9 #7 Share Posted August 9 I've seen both also. Loved the singing in the Donna show, and the high energy of Burn the Floor. I would like to have seen Jersey Boys.
IAcruising Posted August 9 #8 Share Posted August 9 Maybe it had a bad night, but Donna Summer was terrible. I'll take burn the floor 3 times over every day. 2
david_sobe Posted August 9 #9 Share Posted August 9 (edited) In 2010 NCL was crowned the best entertainment at sea. The innovative shows on the new RCCL ships are in another league. But the entertainment on even the older RCCL ships cannot even compare with NCL. I don't care for Broadway shows and dont attend many of them on land. But I always appreciate them on a cruise ship. I love watching all the hard work of the performers. Cruising with NCL actually opened my eyes to some of these shows. Legally Blonde never got great reviews on Broadway but I found it quite entertaining on Getaway. Kinky Boots was another show that was great on Encore. If 10 year old riverboat dancing shows are the future of NCL I suppose more cutbacks are yet to come. The odd part is Prima is a new ship. NCL started yanking their top tier entertainment on their new ships already? Even if its not a great show, let it run its course and get a replacement. I think we are stuck with The Price is Right from here on out. These kinds of threads are risky here because there will be a vocal bunch that will swear NCL cutting the entertainment budget and rehashing 10 year old dance routines is a good thing. roger001 Posted August 9 #10 Share Posted August 9 BTF on the Breakaway last January was a brand new and totally different production. I liked the first, but this was super good and unrecognizably different. I recommend it. I'd see it again.
Beer Belly Posted August 9 #11 Share Posted August 9 The two shows I thoroughly enjoyed was Million Dollar Quartet and Chior of Man
david_sobe Posted August 9 #12 Share Posted August 9 Singing and dancing is what you get on Margaritaville or Celebration cruise lines. That is really old school. The big mainstream lines strive to be better than that. I don't cruise for entertainment but I hate to see NCL's entertainment norm being on par with much older and much less stellar cruise lines. I don't care if its revamped. Its a dancing show that you can see a similar show on Margaritaville. 1
Rare debenson0723 Posted August 9 #13 Share Posted August 9 I thought the Donna Summer show was ok. A little too long and dragged in a few places but the singing was great. I haven't been on a ship with BTF in years so am looking forward to seeing it. To each their own.

Good to know. At least it will eliminate the need to make advance reservations. Predictably, you'll be able to show up 5 minutes before showtime and have front row seat.
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 9 #16 Share Posted August 9 We saw Donna Summer on both of our Prima cruises. It was kinda a dark show about her hard life including being sexually abused as a child. And having people take advantage of her, her whole life. Personally, I didn’t care much for it. We always enjoy a good BTF show, which is from Broadway and not a cruise line production.
dexddd Posted August 9 #17 Share Posted August 9 Donna was ok, a bit too long. I was surprised to see they'd pay three Donna's. Maybe change to one?

It was not a good fit for a ship that really prides itself as a sunny, boardwalky, upscale, southbeach boutique hotel. I would never go back to either Summer or Beetlejuice and I love musical theater.

kasimir Posted August 9 #25 Share Posted August 9 The continuous decline of NCL is in full swing... We are just a year or two away to only have game shows and magicians for entertainment on all cruise ships. This is really sad, as having 1-2 different quality production shows on 7+ day cruises was a major factor why we booked NCL cruises. 3
