Unless I was reading the deck plans wrong, there WERE Neptune suites that didn’t have any symbols, which is why I was worried.  I’ll go back and check again though…

It depends on the ship. If all Neptunes are triples or quads, the deck plan usually doesn't bother with the symbols for all the suites. On Eurodam, for example, the description for the Neptunes in the key says that the suite has "a sofa bed for two persons." Only the triples have the symbol for triple added.

Hilton and Marriott allow you to select a room at checkin.

At checkin, not when booking. That would be the equivalent of a cruiseline having everyone book guarantee and the assigning the cabin at the dock.

These days even ones options with hotels are limited. Cancellation is usually a minimum of 24 hours before checkin at best so if you do not like what is available you are still stuck.

One trick with Hilton is if  you have status you are often better off not using the hotel app to check in. The front desk will often give one upgrades that the app will not.

I'll be on the Nieuw Amsterdam.  The aft corner suites are the ONLY rooms with a symbol.  They can't be the only suites that are just triple, so why would one assume they don't mark all with the right symbol, whether triple or quad, when every other cabin is marked accordingly if they are triple or quad (and there's more room to "write" it than the verandahs, so it can't be to save space...).  Just weird and makes things confusing, especially if people now have to worry about getting bumped, you know?

I know, it does mean taking a closer look before you make your decision. But if you're looking for consistency, well, you won't find it with HAL.

FYI:  About half of the Neptune Suites on the Koningsdam only sleep two; they will not work for us because we are usually a family of three.  For example, there are only four Neptune Suites in the close proximity of the Neptune Lounge that sleep three -- 7068, 7076, 7063, 7067; the other 19 Neptune Suites in that hallway are maximum capacity of two (I have tried to book one for the three of us, and am not able to do so).  There is another section of Neptunes farther toward the back of the ship, however, that sleep three -- 7118, 7120, 7122, 7124, 7111, 7113, 7115, 7117.  The back wrap-around Neptune Suites also sleep three.

Interesting.  Good to know!

The reason being is the description of Neptune Suites say they're for 4 people - 2 in the bed, 2 in the sofa bed. There's no need to mark them all. The aft corner wraps and a few others are smaller than normal, and those are marked with the triple sign because the sofa is smaller (1 person vs 2 for sleeping). It actually makes sense to me. A party of 3 isn't going to get you bumped, and a party of 4 won't either because they're too large for your Neptune!

My PCC booked me in the corner aft Neptune Suite for July 2025 a couple days before the cruise showed up on the website last July. My sister and her boyfriend are next to us on the aft and my mom is next to us on the side. Our bookings are linked. But I’m the only one with a symbol on the deck plan (triple) and it’s just me and my boyfriend in the cabin. So now I’m worried we could get moved!  I booked that early so I could get that specific cabin!

we are in the same boat send our PCC a message as to the same kind of issue

booked a cabin because of location and balcony being bigger will find out tomorrow as to the outcome on this HAL  possible issue

I agree with you WDW1972 that the Neptune Suites were always for 4 people so marking them was unnecessary.  But it has been reported that the Neptune Suites on the Pinnacle class ships are for only two people unless they are marked for three.  Does anyone know for sure?

That's what the K'dam deck plan shows. The unmarked Neptunes are doubles and the ones marked with a circle are triples. The description of the Neptunes does not mention a sofa bed as it does for non-pinnacle ships.

I checked HALfacts but no comments about sofa beds in those midship Neptunes on K'dam.

I’ve sailed on Viking Ocean for the past 3 years. NO CHILDREN, NO CASINOS, NO PHOTOGRAPHERS.  Wine and beer served with lunch and dinner.  Definitely a more mature quiet cruise, but ports filled interested cruisers. Food is wonderful, no charge for specialty restaurants. 930 passengers, all balcony cabins.

love it but we have retired pockets....

The Neptunes on the pinnacles are much smaller than on the other ships. Cramming 3 or 4 in one of them wouldn't be a very pleasant way to cruise, so it's good to see them listed as double occupancy.

We had tons of room in our pinnacle-class Neptune suites.  Lots of room for a convertible sofa and room to move around.  In fact, I never noticed a size difference between pinnacle and non-pinnacle class suites.

Apparently it is worth it to them.  I felt sorry for the cruise lines during the pandemic.  But not anymore.  Like most industries the bean counters upstairs that have probably never set foot on a ship are the ones making the rules now.  It's fine with me, there are plenty of 5 star land based resorts that'll gladly take my money, solo or otherwise.

That is how we think also.  Lots of other options.  We will be going to another 5 star boutique hotel in a couple of weeks.  We have discovered that we enjoy them so much more than our cruises.  We get far better service, better food and better hotel accommodations and amenities all for a lower cost per day than cruising.

I haven't even cruised with Cunard yet and I've been assigned to a "personal vacation planner" which surprised me, I thought most lines required at least one sailing under your belt first before offering a service such as that.  So he will be getting a phone call from me to discuss this further and if this is something I have to worry about with them like we do with HAL, although as far as I know, they do not have huge discount programs like Kids Sail Free, and I don't know about 3rds/4ths.

Just had to move our cabin that we chose back in November 2023 for our Retirement/65 birthday cruise… because it’s a quad and now Holland has changed the rules and no considerations on grandfathering in those who booked in advance to the new regulations

IOO profit before customers loyalty

@a.madruga  Please let us know how your call goes with your PCC tomorrow.  Thank you, Cherie

Update just off with PCC to no avail when it comes to new added rule if you have a quad and they needed your off to what ever they have available in your balcony category

We made it known to PCC that was a bad business decision for those who have or going to have cabins changed only for profit We asked if any chance of grandfathering in since we booked Nov 23 for July 25   NO!!!  Will discuss w. DW tonight and see if we continue on or go elsewhere

I've been thinking about this thread. I understand not wanting to be moved randomly, but is the limitation on cabins for 2 such an issue for people for making bookings now that we know the policy? I understand booking a quad inside to get the space--some inside cabins can be very small. But unobstructed OV and Veranda cabins are all pretty much the same. Except for the unloved metal verandas, the cabin is the same inside. Balconies are the same size with a few (2 per ship?) double length and the deeper deck 4 balconies. But aren't there doubles on deck 4?

There are lots of OV and Veranda doubles to choose from. So why is having a triple or quad important if you're only 2 people in the cabin?

@a.madruga  So sorry to hear this.  You booked early to get the cabin you wanted. We also booked early for 2026 in order to get a specific cabin and will hope for the best.  Hope you have a great cruise.  Cherie

The Nieuw Amsterdam also shows some Neptune suites unmarked. Which is why I’m concerned, being in one marked as a triple and only two people.

I appreciate the update.  I was expecting the answer you were given.  IMO, the sailings most at risk are the holiday sailings.
