Celebrity Secrets they usually don't tell you about

I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if this has been posted.

You can easily change your complimentary sparkling wine (included in AQ, CC and suites) for a regular wine (red or white). It will just be an average wine, comparable to the cost of the sparkling wine. Just ask your attendant.

Also, I posted this on a thread when we just returned last week, but I'll repeat in case it helps someone out:

According to current AmEx Celebrity amenities, when you book with an AmEx platinum card you receive a premium bottle of champagne. I was delighted, when instead of the champagne, there was this notice in the room:

I called and ordered a bottle of Cakebread chardonnay (one of my favs) and we took it to the MDR, where of course, there was no corkage fee since it was provided by Celebrity (and AmEx).

Also, of note, even though the above notice stated that we received a $70 shipboard credit valid for only specialty dining, I saw that the credit was posted to our account on the second day. I asked at the front desk if it had to be used for specialty dining, and she told me that as soon as it is posted to the account, it can be used for anything (other than the casino).

We also received a 2 category upgrade via the AmEx Platinum program. Caution: Don't just depend on your TA to know and offer these things. Always do your own research and know what each program offers.

Never knew these perks existed! Did you have to book through the AMEX travel department?

When I was on RCCL a year ago, they ran a special where if you bought their "Port discount coupon book", drinks were 2 for 1 the rest of the cruise. I think it was because the book was good for the entire year and the cruise was in November. I only used one or two coupons, but the 2 for 1 easily paid for the book. It would be great if Celebrity did the same (although I think I would have read about it here if they did).

BTW - I am on the Summit next week starting a B2B. Thanks to those who revived these pages!

Hi:)...maybe I am misunderstanding your question. Yes, you can

buy what is called a "Celebrity Passage" and it is good forever but it

is not refundable. I have purchased them quite a few times before.

Then when I know what cruise I want to do I call Celebrity and they

take that 100 bucks and apply it to the specific cruise. But as

for matching a portion?..never heard of that before. You will

receive an OBC when you book the new cruise though:D

As for Expresso? There has always been a charge for it. It is a

Specialty Coffee...Expresso, Cappuchino, Lattes, etc....they are not

complimentary.

Expresso ? Expresso ? Dontcha mean espresso ?!

This is a great thread........thanks to the OP for starting it.

I'm a first time Celebrity cruiser and I was wondering if there is anywhere to get regular coffee when the buffet is closed? Oh, guess i should tell you that we'll be on the Silhouette so if anyone has been on the Solstice they can probably answer this.

Thank you.

Can someone please confirm that if you bring the bottle of wine or champagne they give you for CC, you can bring it to the dining room without a corkage fee?? Neither of us drink sparkling wine, but a red wine with dinner for our table would be nice.

Yes - and at times your dining room sommelier might let you exchange it for a credit against another bottle. Depends on several factors so it may or may not work but can't hurt to ask.

Looking for anyone who is on the Summit Caribbean run. What do ya thing?

We did the Southern Caribbean run on the Summit a year ago. We really enjoyed all of the ports, and the one day off at the end was a life saver. I did a similiar Southern Caribbean cruise on Carnival this summer, and it didn't have any sea days--we were exhausted when it was all over.

There was a large diversity of people on the ship. Can't remember anything bad--oh wait, my husband loves to play poker and he was really disappointed with Celebrity. Instead of having cash games, they just did tournaments. That didn't suit him, but personally I enjoyed having him around more. :D

In order to exchange the sparkling wine for a bottle of wine, the brand placed in your room must be for sale in the MDR. On a cruise last year DH and I were allowed to exchange the bottle (we were in a suite) but Father in law (In CC) was NOT allowed to exchange his bottle.

You will not have a corkage fee if you open either the exchanged bottle, or the sparkling wine.

Call 800 242-6374 #3 and ask for your table # before leaving on cruise!

The only thing about that is many times tables are changed before

the sailing. The best way to find out your exact table is to see the

Maitr'd after you board the ship:). They are still doing table assigments

at that time:D

So I ask my cabin attendant to do the exchange - but I have to ask them to make sure it is on the MDR menu? That sounds like it might be complicated. I don't suppose I could bring the sparkling wine to the dining room and ask the sommelier to exchange it, could I?

I'm not sure what others have done but we've just asked the sommelier in the dining room if it could be changed. Frankly the only exchange we've been interested in is for a nicer white wine in the MDR.

We've generally had two different qualities of sparkling wine in our CC room. One is a super cheap one that they often also use for give aways at the art auctions and stuff like that - you'll know you have this one if the foil over the top looks like that on cheap candy foil and it takes a lot of work to even get the foil off!! The other is a sparkling wine by Bouvet which might be under their own label or a Celebrity private label - this one can usually be exchanged and actually tastes OK for an basic sparkling wine - sells retail in stores for around $15 and on Celebrity list usually for around $25 to $30.

  • 1 month later...
You can usually purchase a pass to the Persian Gardens on the first day of your cruise for about $100 which is valid for unlimited visits for the entire duration of the cruise (obviously, the longer the cruise the better the bargain).

anybody know what they charge now?

(time passes so quickly....)
