Merion Mom - just a word of caution –

we had the D+ wine amenity delivered to our cabin last week on the Monarch and there was a card noting that there would be a $12 corkage charge to take the bottle to the dining room! I was shocked and angered as C&A never mentioned that there was any difference between the cabin delivery or dining room delivery. We enjoyed it in various venues around the ship.

Have a fun and safe cruise.

M

Thanks for the heads-up. The D+ desk actually gave me that warning when I picked the amenity. At least they are being upfront and honest!

Carol - have a FANTASTIC time and think of me, Lorna and Ally during trivia!!! We'll be rooting for you!! Miss you lady and will be checking in often to see how the cruise is going. Please tell Len, Letty and Doris Dennis and I said hello!

Take care and talk to you soon. Mary

Mary, I am going to trivia right now, so I'll be back later to read and respond to the next four pages of everyone's posts!

(internet is actually faster this morning than it was last night)

Here I am, finally on board the beautiful Mariner of the Seas, my home for the next 53 days, until February 19, 2009.

Our E cabin on the hump is lovely. This is my first trip on the Mariner, although I've sailed Voyager class and Freedom class before.

Luggage hasn't arrived yet, but I hardly expected it by 3!

We have already made appointments for pedicures. Alas, they have only ONE "nail person" on board, so Lizzy and I cannot have "mother-daughter pedicures", which is what we prefer. She negotiated (;)) a lower price for "just a trim" instead of a full-blown haircut.

Big crowd on board; lots of kids, of course. Not that it feels crowded - not even up in the Windjammer. The Honey Stung chicken was the best that I've had so far. Fries were light and crispy. :)

Check-in and boarding were so fast, I swear that I was out of breath from never stopping for a moment, from the instant we went through security until we were walking out onto Deck 5. It was SO nice bypassing all of the people waiting in line for the next check-in agent!

Everything was ready in our cabin: robes, booklets, D+ amenity (wine), welcome aboard/back letter, concierge lounge key, wine from my TA. The closet is nice and big for a basic balcony cabin - the lifejackets even slip into a little compartment in the closet so that they aren't taking up valuable closet real estate.

I'll try and read what you all say and ask as often as possible. The connection speed right now is the sloooooooowest I have ever experienced onboard.

According to the Cruise Compass, they are running a "special". :D Dom Perignon is 30% off! Would someone please look the price up for me, and tell me what "amazing" price that brings it down to? ;)

Welcome aboard, Cruise Critics!

Carol

This thing has actually started? :D Wow..!!! Have fun!!!

Dom was $135 at Sam's club yesterday. I was surprised to see it that high. I ended up buying a bottle of Piper Heidsecker (sp?) and a bottle of the widow. The PH was about $30 and Vueve Cliquot was $44. I will drink a toast to all of my friends on the Mariner, on NYE.

Hi Carol, look forward to your posts! Say hello to Fernando, concierge. We just sailed with him on Nov 30. Fernando is actually Ricardo's ( concierge on Explorer) brother! Hope you have Marvelous Marvin and Julio ( Inglesias) as the helpers in the lounge. They make a good cosmo!

Looking forward to hearing your comments on many of the already asked question! Helen and Marvin

I am a huge logistics cruise planner so I have gotta ask...

1) How do you handle the laundry situation ?

2) What is the cost of this adventure ?

3) Is the ship sold out ?

Thanks

David:D

and what are you going to do with all those Crown and Anchor hats?

For those who are going to be on the ship, paying those exorbitant internet rates...

Here are the "print" links for these two threads, which don't include graphics or signatures. Just text. Probably save you quite a bit of time, which equals money!

These links go to the first page, but you can adjust your bookmark (assuming you're using a laptop) or just use the page link at the top to get to the end.

I tried using the "newpost" modifier, but it didn't seem to work with the print format.

Eureka Theron...what a great idea. I never thought of that. Just pop in print up the link and go back to post later! Awesome!

Yes, Pat, I'm expecting a crown on your head upon return. Surely RCCL could create a trophy for the year..."Most Quest wins in one year" to be passed on each year with the winners name engraved on it....then you could have a cabinet built so it could reside in your house permanently;):D

Seriously: I hope you girls are going to have some pics to post too say from Tierra Del Fuego and other points south.

Jealous doesn't even begin to describe how I'm feeling! But I know I can live vicariously through you on this thread! We'll have to wait till June to be on the Mariner (our first time on her!)

Carol, you may need to add a couple days just to read all these posts!

Happy sailing!

Well, printing may add up in cost too, but... if they are on board using their own laptop, then they could certainly open up the print formatted page, which should be fast, with no graphics, and then save the page as html, for later off-line reading.

Anything to change the nature of web based (continuously on-line, and expensive) back to client-server type interactions: log-in, download, log-off.
