What Should I do?

So this may be a dumb question, but I booked the Oasis for Jan 2017 before all the OBC promos. Now it looks I can rebook and get $450 obc with the current promo plus the military obc. The cruise is now $237 more so I would have to pay more up front, but get $450 obc. Would you rather save money on the front end or have a bunch of obc for the cruise?

It's all money, so if you think you will use all of the OBC, then I'd go for the change.

I don't consider US$ and OBC$ to be equal. I'd rather pay $237 less.

In this case it would be the same for me since there is no feasible way for me to spend $450 even if I wasn't solo cruising.

$150 I can spend (barely), but anything over that I wouldn't have a clue where to drop the dollars.

Meet me at the bar....

I always look at the end result (it also helps that tips don't need to be prepaid). I would rather pay more upfront if the overall value is higher in the end.

Lol -- I was "blessed" to have been a small share owner in a bar when I was 20 (decades ago). I learned the habit to be the one selling the booze not buying it. I rarely drink on a cruise unless someone else is buying, and even then it's rare for me to finish even one cocktail.

I do have a "Coco Loco" at Coco Cay probably one every three visits, and even just one of those has me stumbling back to the ship.

I am planning to see how much I can spend for my birthday cruise (Oasis February, first time on that class ship) and probably will go all out, so here's to seeing if I can blow a week's income on a single cruise.

So if you go with the OBC your really only getting $213.00 in the end as your paying more for the new cruise rate.

Your original booking did you get any OBC? If so you need to factor that I to the equation to see how much your really getting.

Can't you use OBCs for gratuities? If so I would think most people would have no problem using them. In this situation I'd rebook to get the addition credit.

Yes, as long as you don't prepay gratuties, you can use OBC for them.

If the $50 military OBC was a different promotion, it may not be combinable with the $400 OBC promotion.

I just looked at re-pricing a cruise today. The cost would be an additional $249 to get the $400. We would be ahead by $150...but I don't really want to pay more for the cruise. I think we will just stay with the current pricing. :)

I thought the promo for today was up to $400 OBC. I was not aware that Royal is offering extra OBC for Military.

Still a good deal as you come out ahead at the end.

The military OBC was combinable with the Cyber Monday sale and also the current OBC offer. It was for the month of November. It was $25 per cabin for inside and OV, I "think" it was $50 for a balcony, but not positive on that.

We do private excursions, which saves us money over RCCLs. We are Diamond members and only drink in the evening. We do not buy souvenirs. On our last 8 night Rhapsody cruise, we had OBC to cover our tips (because we use that to pay our tips). Our total bill at the end was $1.26. Yes, we are those horrible frequent cruisers that do not blow a bunch of money on the ship. :)

I would keep the cheaper price. But if you ask for 10 people's opinions, you will get 10 different answers. You have to decide for yourself which is most important.

I ended up re booking with the $450 obc. I wish they would let you use the crown and anchor balcony discount along with the sale, but I still came out $213 ahead. I will just wait to purchase the drink package till I get on the boat unless they come out with a deal on the package. I am use to the last minute deals and not having to worry about the price changing.

DH and I just came of the Brilliance on the repo cruise to Tampa. We went on with $450 OBC and wondered how we would use it all. I started playing Bingo, $38 a day and about half way through the 13 day cruise, I needed to go to medical. That was $227 so I really did not have to worry too much about using all of the OBC. If any of the OBC is refundable, you can cash it out the last night of the cruise at Customer Service. Non-refundable has to be either used up or cashed out in the Casino at a 5% charge. We exited the ship with a $38.47 charge on our account.
