mina Posted October 16, 2015 #676 Share Posted October 16, 2015 Does anyone know where the smoking areas are on the Island Princess? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Just off the island. There is an open deck area midship on deck 15. Very windy. Churchills lounge on deck 7 is the cigar bar. A small area in back of casino except for non smoking notes but you have to be gambling to use.
BassettMom Posted October 18, 2015 #677 Share Posted October 18, 2015 Since each ship is slightly different, can anyone tell me where the smoking areas are on the Crown? I do wish they would allow e-cigs in more places outside (not asking for inside), instead of having to go to the smoking areas. Since they don't, I'd like to know where smoking is allowed on the Crown. Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Robin122 Posted October 20, 2015 #678 Share Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) In regards to cigar smoking ....."For the enjoyment of the public lounges and facilities, indoor areas onboard Diamond Princess are non-smoking. Smoking is only permitted in designated sections of the sports bar and nightclub. For those passengers who would like to enjoy a cigar or pipe, the Churchill's cigar lounge is located on Deck 6 forward. Smoking cigars or pipes outside of this lounge is not permitted. Outdoor smoking areas are clearly marked and are located on Deck 7 Starboardside. Aft of the last outside door only, on Deck 15 Portside Forward - designated tables by the Tradewinds Bar and on Deck 14 Portside Aft by the elevated section above the Terrace Pool. " The way I read the rules, INDOOR cigar and pipe smoking is limited to Churchill's. However, the outdoor areas are open to all smokers. Whatever the case, they need to clarify how this is written. If it also isn't allowed outside , the sentence about cigar limitations should be at the end, after the outdoor smoking area description. I don't get why they are further limited , anyway. I think cigars and pipes should be allowed wherever cigarette smoking is allowed. Especially outside , where the (specious) argument of cigars creating too smoky an environment in a closed area doesn't apply. This detailed post appeared in the March 2015 Patter: Hmmm... Photo does not appear... Try this another way... It does make it clear that cigars are ONLY allowed in the cigar bar. Rare Smmessineo Posted October 21, 2015 #679 Share Posted October 21, 2015 Thanks, Robin ! That defines it clearly. I still can't understand WHY cigars aren't allowed outside , though. Sigh....
anthonyy7 Posted October 24, 2015 #680 Share Posted October 24, 2015 Only real issue I had with smoking on the Regal is that the deck 17 AFT section is always busy esp on sea days. I don't smoke but the fitness center is nearby and the most direct route to get there from the midship pool areas is to walk through the gym area. It was hard to workout on a sea day with all the constant traffic and smoke smell.

Sorry, but they need to be restricted to the designated areas.

Can someone tell me if e-cig are a problem? My husband and I use them and were wondering if using it in my room, balcony, or on the ship is a problem? The last cruise I went on (October) listed e-cigs with the same restrictions as cigarettes that is not for use indoors or on balconies, only within the designated areas. I can't remember the actual reasoning behind it as I only skimmed over it but I recall it was something to do with unknown additives? What ever the reason it will be clearly laid out where you can use e-cigs on board in the smoking policy which is in your cabin.

In your cabin and other smoking areas on the ship. Not allowed on balconies due to people's fevered imaginations!
henador Posted January 9, 2016 #685 Share Posted January 9, 2016 Princess changed their pipe smoking policy between our 12-day Med cruise on Regal in June 2014 to our 10-day Carib cruise on Royal this Christmas. I could no longer smoke outside aft on deck 17 but was restricted to the Churchill room (aka, leper colony). Ridiculous! There is no valid reason for allowing cigarette smoking but not allowing pipe smoking in the back on 17. I'm sure that the official line has something to do with "safety". However, if that was their main concern then they should ban drinking onboard. My guess is that drinking on a single cruise has resulted in more safety issues (falls overboard, sprains, and broken bones, etc.) than pipe smoking has in the entire history of cruising! odie1234 Posted March 17, 2016 #688 Share Posted March 17, 2016 There are probably more, but the 3 Emerald smoking areas I found last week were in the Casino at some slot machines, Deck 7 on the deck just outside the Crown Grill, and an area with seating at the bar on deck 16 just outside the spa. Can someone tell me if e-cig are a problem? My husband and I use them and were wondering if using it in my room, balcony, or on the ship is a problem? It seems like the Princess smoking policy is pretty clear. Here is what is included in the cruise contract you agree to before sailing, see last paragraph: "Keeping the comfort of our guests a priority, and in consideration of consumer studies which show smokers are a small minority of guests, Princess has implemented the following smoking policy: Designated Smoking Areas Clearly marked “Designated Smoking Areas” are available onboard and include a sufficient number of ashtrays that are emptied regularly. Generally, these areas include cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub, as well as a portion of the open decks. The Casino and Casino Bar are non-smoking areas on board, with the exception of designated slot machines where guests are permitted to smoke only while playing at those machines. All table games are non-smoking. The Casino will also have one or more non-smoking nights (6 pm to closing), depending on length of voyage. Show lounges, dining rooms and all food services areas on board all Princess ships are non-smoking. As a safety precaution, guests are reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco, which are never to be thrown overboard as this may be sucked back into the ship and cause fires. Stateroom Smoking Policy Update For all voyages departing after January 15th, 2012, Princess Cruises will prohibit smoking in guest staterooms and balconies. This policy change reflects the preferences of a vast majority of our guests who value having their primary living space (both stateroom and balcony) smoke-free. As balconies are a hallmark of Princess Cruises, we believe it is important to keep this peaceful space clear of smoke. Violations to this policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to the guest’s stateroom account. Keeping with the global trend toward more restrictive smoking policies and honoring the wishes of our guests, we feel this change will enhance our onboard experience and do more to help our guests escape completely. Electronic Cigarettes The use of electronic cigarettes is allowed within the confines of the guest's stateroom (balcony not included) and within designated smoking areas only." skynight Posted May 1, 2016 #692 Share Posted May 1, 2016 What is the smoking policy on Princess? Since I am very sensitive to smoke, are there places I should avoid? How is the pool area? Thanks Outdoor smoking locations are very limited on Princess ships, but differ slightly on each ship. For example, on the promenade on Grand class ships smoking is only permitted in a small area all the way at the stern of the ship where there is a special cigarette disposal unit attached to the bulkhead. No smoking around any pools on any of the Princess ships. The only indoor areas where smoking is allowed is in the cigar lounge, and the casino. The casino does have some smoke free evenings, and some non-smoking sections. Cigar and pipe smoking are only allowed in the Cigar Lounge.
JF - retired RRT Posted May 1, 2016 #693 Share Posted May 1, 2016 You'll find out very quickly where the smoking areas are...just follow your nose. Avoid the casino - even on the "smoke free" nights there is a lingering odor. Not horrible, but it is there. Usually one small area near a pool or bar... just walk to the other side of the ship. The doors on the smoking/cigar/sports bar are usually closed. We found a cigarette butt on the edge of the Lotus Spa pool once.:( And on that same cruise there was a couple in the hot tub at that same pool who were using e-cigs. Notified a staff member and he did nothing. No smell, but still against the rules (of course chair hogs are against the rules, too).
jennybenny Posted May 1, 2016 #694 Share Posted May 1, 2016 My husband is very sensitive to cigarette smoke. Different ships do have different smoking areas. We normally do Inside cabins but I was ultra careful when we booked our mini suite to ensure we were not in the "draft" area of a smoking zone. I found it difficult to find where the smoking areas were in the brochures on line, but I just asked here about specific ships and got my responses. Rare firegal2539 Posted May 1, 2016 #696 Share Posted May 1, 2016 I was recently on the Grand Princess and smokers congregated in the casino and smoked. Didn't play the machines at all just stood or sat around. I opened my mouth to mention they were breaking Princess" rules and was told to mind my own business. Why don't smokers read the smoking policy so they won't take a cruise if smoking is that important to them. One of several reasons that I prefer other Princess ships over the Royal/Regal design.

mrs and mrs Posted May 2, 2016 #700 Share Posted May 2, 2016 If you cruise out of Australia, there is no smoking in the casinos, and no smoking below decks, and no special smoking rooms.(read No Smoking anywhere inside). Dont know what happens when a ship leaves from a foreign port and sails to Australia.
