Until recently the answere would have been no.

Earlier this month Celebrity made some changes to the beverage packages and now the answere is Yes you can pay the difference for a drink above the classic package.

Is that fleet wide? I don't think it was the case on the Silhouette last week, but maybe people weren't willing to pay the upgrade at the Martini Bar.

Apparently yes this is fleet wide and even represented that way on Celebrity site in description of Classic package.

my husband and I have the classic drink program

My husband on occasion likes a whisky that's on the premium. Can he just pay the difference in price with his ship card??

The answer is No. If you have the Classic package, and you want a drink that is over the limit for the Classic ($9), you have to pay the FULL price for that particular drink. If you have the Premium package, and you want a drink that is over the limit for the Premium ($13), it is then that you are allowed to pay the difference.

This was the OLD policy.

The NEW policy introduced by Celebrity a couple of weeks or so ago is that classic package folks pay the difference over their limit....just like the premium package folks have always done.

There are a few threads here on that very topic.

This is incorrect. You can now pay the difference with the classic.

OK. I'm editing what I just stated. I didn't see on Celebrity's website, however I did see a menu of drinks that was posted on another thread on this same subject. So then you can pay the difference. But I would make a call just to verify it and to make sure it's on YOUR ship, for the cruise that you are taking. In our case, we chose the Classic Package as one of our 2 "free" perks, and pre-paid the upgrade to the Premium package. We are also not big drinkers, but we don't want to be bothered or limited in our choices.

As others have stated, incorrect information based on the changes that Celebrity made to the beverage packages in recent weeks. For reference take a look here ... read paragraph two at the top.

No need to call as X officially clarified the new drink package rollout dates on another thread (see below):

Starting with the Celebrity Reflection 3/24/17 sailing, the following Beverage Packages enhancements are in effect:

  • Streamlined pricing for the drinks included under our Classic and Premium packages: Previously guests were paying different pricing for spirits, cocktails, liqueurs and frozen drinks, and wine-by-the-glass, etc.
  • Classic Beverage Package Enhancement:
    • Guests who purchase this package will have the option to pay the difference if they want a drink that is not included in their package.
    • Guests who purchase the Classic Beverage Package have the option to order any beverages up to $9.

[*]Premium Beverage Package: Guests who purchase the Premium Beverage Package have the option to order any beverages up to $13.

Rollout Schedule

  • Reflection 3/24/17
  • Eclipse 3/25/17
  • Silhouette 3/26/17
  • Summit 3/27/17
  • Infinity & Constellation 4/2/17
  • Equinox 4/3/17
  • Millennium 4/8/17
  • Solstice 4/20/17

You can now pay the difference

A martini at the Martini was 3.54

:o

I think the bartenders are still figuring this out. They charged our friend FULL price for his martini instead of the difference when on Summit last week.

At the Casino, he was able to order a Grey Goose and only pay the $2 difference in price.

I decided to call Celebrity on my own. The agent stated what I originally said that they have no information to confirm any changes. If on a Classic Package, you would have to pay for the ENTIRE DRINK, and not the difference. When I asked whether it is possible that it is on one ship and not the other, she put me on a brief hold, and then came back and said that there has been a change made on 3/27/17! And she was unaware of this, and thanked me for letting me know! We booked our cruise through a cruise agent on 3/31/17, paid in full, and obviously our cruise agent was also not aware. Celebrity said we can cancel the upgrade for either one or both of us at any time, before we cruise or not, but before we have our first drink.

This change definitely makes for different thinking on whether to upgrade classic to premium. Personally I have thus far decided I will still upgrade but I have a long time to ponder.

And from reading the many experiences here with celebrity keeping up with celebrity changes, this is not unusual for the message to be unknown to some so soon after.

There's no reason to buy the upgrade before you get on the ship.....so you don't have to waste any time pondering.

As far as calling celebrity, if you call twice, you will get three answers....all guesses. Celebrity does an absolutely terrible job of giving accurate information to those that answer their phones. The last place to call for "accurate" information is celebrity. I know that sounds really strange, but it's true.

Not wasting time, just doing my own internal debate which is all part of the fun of planning. My choice to upgrade or not will likely be the same now or on the ship and unless the upgrade option becomes available online for me (unlike others I do not see upgrade option in the online packages), I will have little choice but to wait till then as I want to use OBC.

And yes ... sad how information is passed along the ranks at Celebrity. That said, one can't always be sure that those on the phones haven't had access to the information in some bulletin somewhere and it was overlooked given there are likely so many changes all the time. I work in changing world of IT technical operations and I come across it everyday with those around me, I will read an email about something and then talking to others days or weeks later and mention it and I get 'I didn't get that email ... what are you talking about ... are you sure ???' Hmmm ... Yes you did ... you should know ... and yes I'm sure. :)

Just got off the Summit today. With the classic drink package you can pay the difference plus 18% tip on that amount. I got a Bushwacker leaving St Thomas and it cost me $1.85. Got a Martini and it cost me $3.85

Keep in mind, that unless it changed again they moved a can of soda to the premium package. Makes no sense to me but since I like to drink sodas the change stinks.

It appears from recent posts from pax onboard, X have decided to keep the cans in the Classic package, for now at least (yes, totally different to the attachment they posted here on CC ).

If they keep the cans in Classic, I'll be a happy camper. Great to bring something along on excursion :-)

Still remember the great time we had with you and the group last August on Constellation (Malta, Turkey, etc). Great Ship, Great friends, A blast. We plan to go back there sometime in 2018. Venice is such a nice city.
