Casino rates

I thought I read somewhere that one needs to go through Princess Phone rep or their TA now to get the casino rate due to a software change.

Thanks for mentioning this--I hadn't heard or read this anywhere else. I'll have to call Princess once my plans for next year become clearer. I will miss being able to check a list of cruises I am following without having to wait on hold for a Princess rep, and then hope they give accurate info. Hopefully this is just a temporary IT glitch.

I had not heard that but then I never received any notice of the original casino offer, it was just there. Hopefully the discount will be there when we ask our TA to price out another cruise.

My mother-in-law checked with her TA this weekend to try to combine the casino rate with a sale for next spring, and the casino rate is GONE! This was not a close-to-sold-out cruise by any means. Thankfully, she has her casino rate safe and sound from before and just won't be able to combine sales.

I spoke to my agent this weekend. They have to now enter the offer code to see the rates-- not just the Captain Circle number. It must be booked through agent or Princess.

So how are you supposed to monitor for price drops? I don't like that one bit.

Only works if you get notified of such. We didn't get any notification (email or snail mail), so how would we know such a discount exists?

I called to upgrade my room on a cruise for December as prices had dropped. Using the casino rate, which she said was still available, my rate came out to at least $800 more than not using it. I decided to stay where I was ... :(

Per the advice from my TA -- I called again after a week and now it is $2000 more.

Even my TA, that really went to bat for us by calling back twice, thought their pricing was crazier than crazy!!

Reading posts - sounds like targeted "casino rates" can be identified when logging-into the Princess website. We have received casino rates in the past but only when calling Princess to check. No CR offers appear when logging into my Cruise Personalizer and/or checking for price-drops on-line. Am I missing something?

Had our TA check the pricing for the current Sun Drenched Deals sale with the free on board spending. She was able to get a new casino rate, saving us $450 and $300 OBC. We were already booked with the old casino rate. Woo hoo!!:D

Yes ... agree - big $$$ savings today with casino rate in tact with a simple Princess phone check beyond on-line personalizer numbers - love it!

Thanks, mkitchy and seafish. Been waiting to hear that the casino rate is back. Not seeing it come up by booking online. So, you now have to call direct and have them check the rates? Have two scheduled, but was upset when it disappeared for third cruise.

Thanks, Paul

Glad to hear it is still available. It is too bad that we can't see it in the online booking tool anymore. It was so much easier to check out the prices that way.

Eventually you will be able to see it again. I think they updated the booking system and need to do more programming so individuals can see it with out calling their TA or Princess. It should be fixed in the future.

Thanks Coral. That is good news! I will keep checking.

We just booked S. America today on a casino rate, and the rep said that you now have to ask for it. It saved us 30% on our OV, so we are thrilled! It combined with the 3 for free promotion and is refundable.

Does anyone know if the discount applies to cruisetours?

I just had a conversation with a Princess rep about booking with a casino rate. He said he couldn't tell me the price. I'd have to make the booking. Then he'd have to call another department to be sure it was okay, and only then could he tell me what the price would be. I thanked him but didn't book anything. Hoping if I call back, a different rep will have a different story.

He did also say the casino rates would no longer be shown on the website. He said the reason was they were cracking down on this because of people somehow taking advantage of them and getting the rates for their friends, etc. who really weren't eligible. I wasn't sure how that was happening, and I didn't question him further.

No, it doesn't. Just be happy with what you have.

Hmmmm....sometimes they just make no sense down there. Isn't their point to sell cruises...and wouldn't they be able to sell more cruises if the consumer actually knew the price?

Oftentimes, I will call back and get a completely different answer. This guy's explanation makes little sense. But...thanks for posting!!

I am also glad this rate is back.

Excuse ignorance but is this casino rate something just for N American cruisers?

I do not think I have ever heard of it down here nor by cruisers from NZ or UK

When you say you look for the rate? where would it be shown on a web site? Thanks Yvonne

So we now have to go to the trouble of booking a cruise first, then call to find out if there is a casino rate available, what the fare will be and cancel if we don't like the price?
