Majesty to get Upgraded

Recommended Posts

I always enjoyed the nightly Diamond event in the VCL on MN, even if it was only wine and soda. As long as they don't totally cut of access I'll be happy. It'll be just like old times.

I totally agree, :)

The nightly Diamond Event on our past few cruises had plates of h'ordeuves handed out as well with you drinks along with a cup of party mix (peanuts, etc). It was much nicer in recent years. It started a few years ago, when several Pinnacles were onboard with us, and they made a fuss at the Diamond Event. After that, it changed....and it has stayed on subsequent cruises we have been on, on Her Majesty.

We were just talking about the nice Boleros Lounges on MJ and EN today on the (former) MJ retirement thread.

CCL is planning on going to Cuba soon. It might stand to reason that RCI would be strategically positioning their ships with good appeal to Latin guests in preparation for the same. Just a theory, but interesting to think about.

I would definitely be interested in a port stop in Cuba.

Is it a public commissioner of some type or someone who works at the port authority or is it a person who works at Royal.....Not concerned about the name.....I was confused.

I have just met someone else who one of their marketing execs at Royal...and he got an earful from me about this fluid situation (his term for it -- with Her Majesty) ....as politely as I could make it....but he heard it from me.

My impression is it was someone from the port authority

Based on what they are saying that Her Majesty is getting, she will be a much different ship than what she was. Surprising to me, that with what they are doing, they are not adding some type of Diamond Lounge, rather than having the Diamond section nightly in VCL.

I really wonder if the VCL will actually still be a public place on Her Majesty at all. Time will tell. In the past there have always been a decent number of Diamond and above cruisers on any of the cruises we were on, by the time we were Diamond and had access to the roped off area.

I read on another thread that there is going to be a DL but I guess we will find out if this is true.

I didn't think I was going to get to cruise on Majesty again, I always liked it better than Monarch. With it going to Port Canaveral next summer, I just might to get to go one more time. I'm also very happy to read about the upgrades. Still taken back a little by the pricing for a 4 nighter. We will miss Enchantment, but hope to get down to Ft. Lauderdale/Miami before she moves on.

2. MSC just announced sailings out of Cuba. Would Royal hang on to an older ship so they can deploy it in Cuba next year and test the waters there?

I saw the CEO of Carnival on CNBC yesterday, talking about sending a smaller ship to Cuba, with requirements that passengers have to sign up for cultural excursions. The U.S. has approved Carnival going to Cuba, but Carnival is still waiting for Cuban approval.

So, the idea of RC holding onto the Majesty, so that it or another ship could go to Cuba, as the restrictions are eased, isn't that far fetched.

What would be considered a "cultural excursion" on Carnival? - "Beer Pong with the Castros", "Havana bar hop with military escort"?

The cruises to Cuba are not being offered by Carnival Cruise Line, but by Carnival Corp's new line, fathom. The line will have other destinations, all offering “social impact travel.”

I was attempting to poke some fun at Carnival Cruise Line as the previous poster was implying it was Carnival themselves, rather than their new spin-off brand Fathom (as a division of Carnival Corp), going to Cuba.

Somehow my joke just didn't "land" :o:o

We cruised on Monarch when it was in PC, simply because we were able to snag a cabin at short notice for a quick getaway. We never really liked the ship, but it was convenient. When Enchantment replaced Monarch, we saw it as a major step up, and were very happy to sail on EN. We were disappointed that RCL chose to move EN to Miami without a replacement, but were looking forward to trying Rhapsody in 2017. Rather than do a Carnival cruise next summer and fall, we decided to take the summer off and just book a fall cruise on the Disney Dream.

When they announced the Majesty coming to PC, I asked DW if she wanted to book a quick summer cruise on her. In her words - no way I'm getting on that class of ship again. I agree. Major step backwards. BTW, I did a mock booking for Majesty for the same week we have Disney booked in October, and there's only ~$125 difference between a JS on Majesty and a Cat 7 Balcony on Dream. That's a no-brainer decision.

I certainly hope this is a short-term stay in PC for Majesty, but if not, it looks like we're staying on land for our summer vacations.:(

Whatever ultimately caused the decision to move Her Majesty to PC rather than have her sold to Pullmantr, we may never know....or at least, not in the near future.

Keeping that in mind, Royal may find that this decision doesn't work out to meet their expectations (whatever those are)....if that is the case, they will make some changes somewhere.

These changes were clearly caused by something that did not work out well with the original plan....we just don't know exactly what that was.

Hope they figure it out soon. IMO, the solution to whatever the problem was is worse than the problem itself.

Far fetched might be a bit harsh. Carnival is testing the waters right now. Planning for what will likely be open relations in the near future. I think Royal will certainly be keeping their eyes on CCL's little experiment, and getting ready for what will someday become a lucrative market. I'd love to visit Cuba, especially before it gets ruined with endless miles of mega-resorts that tend to pop up wherever American tourists flock.
