  1. I recommend 3 hours at KEF. It's a small airport but lots of international flights leave at the same time and check in lines can be quite long. There are tours that pickup at KEF. Check Reykjanes Tours, that's a company that did this kind of thing a few years ago. Otherwise, RE.is does big bus tours and I think they have some starting at the airport. They may also have some smaller options
  2. A good wool neck gaiter is a GREAT investment. I bought one for our Antarctica trip and use it interchangably even now as a hat, a gaiter, or a face mask in combo with a wool hat with just my eyes showing when hiking in really cold weather. When trying them out make sure it will be comfortable in all three places on your head. It's easy to get one that is too tight to use as a facemask or hat, or too loose for the neck
  3. That area of Westchester is full of good restaurants. Use TripAdvisor or Yelp to find ones that fit your taste and budget. No need to settle when you can have a really good meal with a little bit of planning
  4. I think I've walked every block of Hell's Kitchen in the past 14 months and it is not at all sketchy. Maybe some areas in the West "mid 30's" have more homeless folks, but nothing sketchy or that feels remotely dangerous. With just carryons and backpacks you could even walk to the pier, if you aren't concerned about the wheels on your bags
  5. Taxi is fixed cost as mentioned about. $70 plus tolls + tip = about $100.
  6. It is even walkable, if you can manage your bags that distance and the weather is good
  7. Exactly. When you book a hotel all the fees and taxes show up before you have to enter any financial information. Should actually show up before you enter your name, too. Resort fees stink, but it's the bottom line I pay most attention to. I don't really care how they get there
  8. Glad you enjoyed it, Turtle. We were less excited when it opened in Cambridge about a year ago. We were in NYC for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and saw (in the order we liked them) The Piano Lesson Funny Girl (Julie Benko filling in for sick Lea Michele) Topdog/Underdog A Strange Loop Leopoldstadt I don't like Stoppard and was talked into seeing this and it really is his most approachable and somewhat autobiographic play, was glad I saw it.
  9. Might want to ask on the Princess board. When we were on Silversea in Antarctica nearly 5 years ago the internet was pretty good
  10. Agreed. No way Agreed. No way they can force passengers to take ship excursions or be forced to stay onboard
  11. Driving is easy, but if you want to do tours, a 2 night/1 day tour of the South Coast out to Jokulsarlon would be the best bang for your buck.
  12. We walked that area thanksgiving weekend, and it looked the same to,us as three years ago. Homelessness and marijuana use are up min the city based on our views, but we never felt unsafe, especially in the daytime when we were on the west side.
  13. October is wicked expensive in Boston. The following weekend is ahead of the Charles and is second only in price to marathon weekend
  14. Both are good and well located. Park Plaza is known for having some tiny rooms.
  15. Scandinavia as a whole is BIG. Not as big as Canada but asking for August weather in Scandinavia is like asking about August weather in Alberta: It covers a whole lot of ground. CrusierBruce's suggestion of using google to get the averages for your intended destinations makes a ton of sense
  16. Iceland is REALLY easy to do as a land tour and the best part of it for us is you can just be alone with your loved one(s). No cruiseship tours and buses full of other people, just you and your car and the beautiful landscape. You don't get that from a ship. You can do that in Alaska, too, but Iceland is small and easy to do on your own.
  17. Just that? Any useful info to help the traveler make that decision?
  18. Literally hundreds of options. What neighborhood do you like? Do you like Big hotels or smaller boutiques? Do you collect points with any chains? And then we get into budget. Some great hotels over $1000/night all over the city. Lots of choices at $300. Not as many at $200.
  19. I get wanting to see the original. Sometimes that is impossible, as I mentioned before, due to not being alive for the original, being away from the city when it is first staged, sold out status, illness, or finances. I guess it makes it easier to pick your shows when it's Originals or Nothing. 3 questions: 1) If a show is first staged in London and transfers to Broadway with the same or a slightly different cast would you consider that an original? 2) If a show is first staged as an "Out of Town Tryout" in Chicago or LA or Boston, do you consider it an original when it transfers to Broadway? 3) Would you consider the current Broadway productions of Hamilton, Wicked, and Book of Mormon to be "Originals" since they have been playing continuously since they opened there?
  20. I get that, but lots of folks aren't old enough or had the means to have seen Original Productions. This is certainly not your grandfathers' 1776, but ruling out remakes entirely as just not liking them means you would miss a ton of great theater, including these recent musicals: Music Man My Fair Lady South Pacific The King and I Hedwig And these recent plays: How I Learned to Drive To Kill a Mockingbird Topdog/Underdog Three Tall Women Jitney
  21. August isn't the most expensive time in NYC. You should have your choice of lodging for under $300/night. Lots of Broadway options under $100, too.
  22. We saw the pre-Broadway production in Cambridge, MA and were underwhelmed
