  1. Apparently two members of Bird's family have gotten jobs on Prima working at the 6th hole of the mini golf course. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  2. The advisory for Haiti is now level 4, Do Not Travel . "Do not travel to Haiti due to kidnapping, crime, and civil unrest. U.S. citizens should depart Haiti now in light of the current security and health situation and infrastructure challenges. U.S. citizens wishing to depart Port-au-Prince should monitor local news and only do so when considered safe." Puerto Plata not that close to Haiti. Looks to be a 3 to 4 hour drive to the Haitian border, and who knows what might be there . How would you get to Haiti? Do you really think a rental car company is going to allow you to drive one of their vehicles into Haiti ?
  3. Big difference...it's not the cruise line forcing you to take the excursion in Denali or Antarctica, it's the laws and regulations of the locality. Obviously local laws and regulations have to be obeyed. There's nothing in the Bar Harbor referendum that mandates cruise ship excursions and for a cruise line to do so as a business decision and practice would be unacceptable to passengers .
  4. Yes...there will be no passengers. It would be a violation of the Passenger Vessel Services Act to carry passengers on this itinerary. In order to transport passengers from one US port to a different US port on a foreign flagged ship there must be a port call at what is known as a distant foreign port. The nearest distant foreign ports to the East Coast of the US are the ABC islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, and obviously it would take many days for the ship to go to the ABCs from Port Canaveral and then on to NY City.
  5. The Joy will use the new locks. it's too big for the old locks.
  6. The package doesn't include room service so you will have to pay for a glass of wine that's delivered to your room. https://www.ncl.com/about/terms-and-conditions/promotions Premium Plus Beverage Upgrade Package Does not include: Wine and Spirit Experiences, tastings or Flights, room service, mini bar purchases, wine dispenser or vending machines or pre cruise wine bottle purchases.
  7. Per the Georgia Department of Driver Services all permanent licenses issued in Georgia after 2012 are REAL ID compliant, so your state mandated it...you didn't request it. The first time after 2012 that you renewed your license you must have been required to submit the additional documentation necessary to issue a REAL ID license. As has been noted, some states, including NJ where I live, don't mandate that you have a REAL ID license. I have just an ordinary license and whenever REAL ID is finally mandated by DHS I'll use my passport card or Global Entry card for domestic flights .
  8. Yes, it's 1,000 per day. From a practical perspective Bar Harbor may grant disembarkation privileges to only a single ship when the passenger load would exceed 1,000 on a day when more than one ship is in port, effectively meaning that only one small ship per day can call on Bar Harbor.
  9. Why should a passenger who has paid their fare and port taxes be denied the right to disembark unless they spend additional money for a cruise ship sponsored excursion?
  10. No wonder it costs so much to do a Panama Canal Transit. This guy must make a fortune in overtime. Many years ago my parents had a family friend who was NY City subway conductor who had very high seniority in the system. A workday was defined by how many trips the conductor made, not the number of hours he worked. With his seniority he was able to get the plum assignment, the South Ferry Shuttle, which had only two stations that were very, very close to each other. A trip from one to the other took only a minute or two, so it was an overtime bonanza for him every day he worked even if he only worked a few hours.
  11. I don't think it can be done. If I'm passenger #1,001 I can't go ashore ? I've paid the same fare and port taxes as passengers 1- 1,000 . I think ships with passenger capacities of over 1,000 will have to skip Bar Harbor.

    POA @ Kauai

You original post says it's 2pm. The itinerary for POA cruises is on NCL's website https://www.ncl.com/cruises/7-day-hawaii-inter-island-from-honolulu-PRIDE_AMER7HNLOGGITOKOANWKHNL?ships=4294960043&numberOfGuests=4294953449&sortBy=featured&autoPopulate=f&from=resultpage&itineraryCode=PRIDE_AMER7HNLOGGITOKOANWKHNL
  13. No, it doesn't make sense and I'd love to see the video you've cited. Even if Virgin require this, was the explanation an official video from the cruise line or something put together by a self-appointed expert? Even if from the cruise line we know how reliable the information you get from a cruise line is. For example cruise lines repeatedly misinterpret the Passenger Vessel Services Act and passengers are denied the ability to book a legal itinerary or allowed to book an illegal itinerary only to have it cancelled or changed later. Believe me, it's not a difficult law to interpret and US Customs and Border Protection even publishes a document that the cruise lines can use to assist them in making interpretations. To give you a specific example, the cruise ship Diamond Princess is flagged in the UK, and has a number of roundtrip closed loop Mexican Riviera cruises from San Diego. Not only don't you need a passport with six months remaining validity for these cruises, a US citizen doesn't need a passport at all and can cruise with as little documentation as a birth certificate and photo ID such as a drivers license.
  14. You should post this on the MSC board because it's more likely to catch the eye of MSC cruisers who are familiar with their requirements...but as I read MSC requirements for South America you can take either a PCR test or a rapid antigen test...you just can't use a rapid antigen self test: https://www.msccruisesusa.com/health-and-safety-measures/south-america COVID-19 TEST REQUIREMENTS: For Cruises less than 6 nights: - For fully vaccinated guests a COVID-19 antigen or RT-PCR test is strongly encouraged but not required. - For non-vaccinated guests (ages 3 years old or older) a COVID-19 antigen or RT-PCR test is required 24 hours before embarkation. For Cruises longer than 6 nights: - All guests (ages 3 years old or older) are required to provide a COVID-19 antigen or PCR-RT test 24 hours before embarkation. A rapid antigen self-test is not valid for travel purposes. The original test results certificate and vaccination certificate must be presented at the terminal (paper or electronic format) and must be in one of the following languages: English, Italian, German, French or Spanish. The COVID-19 test certificate must contain the guestโ€™s data (verifiable with the other travel documents), date of the test, identification/contact details of the center that performed the analysis, technique used, and negative test result. All crew members are required to be fully vaccinated and are regularly tested according to MSC Cruises' health and safety protocols.
  15. You're prognosticating. Poster #145 hasn't yet posted...๐Ÿ˜ . What I'm writing is #144 . ๐Ÿ˜‰
  16. I know very well...been there, done that...won't go on a cruise line with that rule ever again. If it weren't for posters like that the dress code threads would be over and done within a few minutes with two or three posts. Instead we get threads with hundreds of posts that unnecessarily run for weeks.
  17. It's pathetic that NCL is sending out this type of misinformation.
  18. I've never worn a sports jacket nor has my wife ever worn a cocktail dress on Oceania .
  19. The woman was clueless. There's no prohibition against wearing shorts for a show. If I'm having dinner in the Terrace Cafe and wearing shorts I do not change before going to a show.
  20. It's free . No tickets to buy. There's a queue on Heritage Wharf for boarding the ferry.
  21. You should be using the old locks, but there is always the very, very slight possibility of being diverted to the new locks if an operational issue in the canal arises.
  22. I don't know how accurate the information is but Bacardi's website states that currently taxis are not available at the Catano pier. https://www.bacardi.com/casa-bacardi/plan-your-visit/
  23. Very few ships call on Fanning Island. In 2023 there will be three and also three in 2024, per cruisetimetables.com : https://www.cruisetimetables.com/cruises-to-fanning-island-kiribati-2023.html https://www.cruisetimetables.com/cruises-to-fanning-island-kiribati-2024.html
  24. While most cruise lines in most cases adjust the ship's clock to match local port time, Carnival tends to be the major exception and seemingly more often than not does not adjust ship's time to match the local port time. Someone who has cruised on Carnival on that particular itinerary may be able to give you a more precise answer .
  25. I recall that a number of years ago when we hit a fairly high loyalty program status on Celebrity we, and and two or three other couples of similar status, were invited to have dinner with the Captain. He definitely drank the wines that were offered and not just a taste either .
