  1. No Manhattan hotels offer airport or pier shuttle service. What airport are you flying into ? I'll assume it's LGA based on the 10 mile distance mentioned. Yes, use Uber or a taxi from the airport to the hotel. Taxi fare will vary based on traffic and exact route taken but on average should be about $35-$40. Uber will vary by demand (surge pricing). i would book an UberXL for 4 passengers. Which of the three cruise ports are you sailing from...Manhattan, Brooklyn or Cape Liberty? $30 from hotel to ship is way too high for Manhattan but too low for either of the others. If it's the Manhattan Cruise Terminal and you like to walk and can handle your luggage it's only about a one mile walk. A taxi will only be about $10 in average traffic.
  2. The departing ship has to clear the ship channel before the incoming ship enters it. The channel is too narrow for safe two way traffic.
  3. It's already been downgraded to a tropical storm and expected to be only a tropical depression by tomorrow. Looks like a rainmaker for Central America, not something that would cause cruise ships do any major itinerary diversions. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_ep3+shtml/235156.shtml?cone#contents
  4. That violates the law. Your fare should be based on the taxi's meter. Did you actually use a NY City yellow or green medallion taxi or was it an unlicensed car.
  5. What may have been true on the particular cruise line you were dealing with years ago may not be true on NCL or any particular line today. At the restart of cruising after the COVID shutdown, there were corporate policies put in place to prevent this type of activity due to COVID-related protocols for testing and a general concern about passengers contracting COVID ashore and bringing the infection onto the ship. Perhaps you've forgotten or simply don't know that in some countries only approved "bubble" tours were permitted, which would preclude cruise lines from permitting passengers to tour independently ashore. I'm not suggesting that there are currently any substantial restrictions of this type on touring still in place, but rather simply refuting the factually incorrect statement you made based on your experience years ago. By necessity land-based operations had to be involved at the COVID restart and it's not inconceivable that some cruise lines have decided to keep that corporate office involvement in place.
  6. It's misleading to say 373 prescription meds as there are only about 175 distinct medications listed. The list has multiple lines for many medications because it lists each banned dosage on a separate line.
  7. I thought what I was saying was fairly obvious, but perhaps it wasn't. The idea is to have water packaged in a way that is easy to take ashore while eliminating the single use plastic bottles. Oceania could also replace the water bottles in the gym with the Flow water cartons.
  8. I am well aware of the fact that NCL charges for the water. The point is that there are alternatives to single use plastics other than the Vero water system used by Oceania. Oceania could have the same water used by NCL available at no charge as you are exiting ship just as they used to have water in plastic bottles available at no charge. I haven't found the NCL water to have an objectionable taste. I happen to cruise on both Oceania and NCL so I can offer suggestions based both on fact and on opinions developed from actual personal experience, not from what some other person said .
  9. You can buy transportation tokens, good for one bus or ferry ride for $ 4.50 each. If the NCL ferry is running each of you would need two tokens, one for the bus ride from St. George to the caves and one for the return bus ride to St. George. If the NCL ferry is not running you'll need 4 tokens each as you'll need to take the public ferry from Dockyard to Hamilton followed by a bus from Hamilton to the caves, then the same for the return trip. Since 4 tokens cost $18 you might consider spending $1 more per person and buy transportation passes as you would have the flexibility to also go somewhere else at no additional cost if time permits.
  10. For park/sleep/cruise packages look at trinityreservations.com. Otherwise if you want to just have a hotel room for the night, a short drive to the port and park at the port a possibility is one of the five hotels located on International Blvd in Elizabeth. They are adjacent to an outlet mall, The Mills at Jersey Gardens and several chain restaurants.
  11. Perhaps Oceania should follow the lead of its corporate sibling NCL and have water in single use recyclable cartons available in place of single use plastic bottles. The cartons can be just as easily taken ashore as single use plastic bottles.
  12. Per their FAQs apparently you can bring luggage onto the Intrepid, but you have to be able to carry it with you, so something small like a backpack would be the maximum size I'd suggest : "The Museum does not offer bag and coat check facilities. All belongings, including bags, strollers and luggage must remain with visitors at all times."
  13. NCL has paxlovid vailable in its onboard medical center. From what I've read they charge $800 for it.
  14. Contrary to what others have said, it has happened although very, very rarely. Years ago on a day when there were multiple ships embarking a late arriving passenger on our cruise said that they were turned away and directed to a nearby offsite parking lot. It will only happen if three or more ships are in port that day and you arrive late...say after 1 pm.
  15. Assuming you mean Oceania, they normally use the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. There are two hotels in Ridgefield Park, NJ that in the past have offered stay/park/cruise packages that include transportation to and from the port, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Hampton Inn. You can check with those hotels to see if they're offering the package for the date you would need it. As the previous poster mentioned, driving into Manhattan from North Jersey is actually quite easy . if you cross into Manhattan using the George Washington Bridge you take the Henry Hudson Parkway/ West Side Highway south and that road literally ends at the entrance to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Parking at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal is safe and secure, and costs $40 per night...expensive compared to most cruise port parking but quite reasonable for Manhattan.
  16. You shouldn't. Effective for arrivals on and after October 25 2022 Bermuda changed its rules and eliminated the test requirement. NCL changed its Sail Safe page a day or two ago to reflect this change, but it looks like O hasn't yet gotten around to updating it's rules. My observation has been that O doesn't do a great job of keeping its COVID requirements up to date. I suspect in a couple of days you'll see the change made to O's website to reflect the elimination of testing for Bermuda cruises. Bermuda's new rules can be found at https://www.gov.bm/cruise-travel-authorisation All Cruise travellers arriving October 25 2022 onwards will no longer require a pre-travel test, arrival test or a day 4 test. BTW, I believe O's requirements for Greece may also now be out of date.
  17. If it fits in the xray screening machine, which is similar to those used in airports, yes.
  18. OK...the above map says "Diamond Princess". The name you gave in the thread title was "Dawn Princess". Looking at her schedule, it appears as though the next cruise on that ship doesn't take place until November 27, so the ship is currently not in service. Princess cancelled 11 cruises on the ship due to crewing shortages. If you do an internet search you'll find any number of articles about it, including this one: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/2022/08/09/princess-cruise-diamond-sailings-canceled/10276562002/
  19. NCL still provides a ferry from Dockyard to St. George.
  20. The National Museum of Bermuda is located in the Royal Naval Dockyard, just a short walk from where the ships dock at King's Wharf and Heritage Wharf.
  21. The telephone call center employees answer questions from scripts that are provided to them. Carnival probably hasn't updated its call center scripts yet.
  22. As I've said in earlier posts, be patient and NCL will change its protocols. The ncl.com travel requirements by country have now now been updated to reflect the elimination of Bermuda's testing requirements effective for all sailings after October 25, 2022 . Actually, even this isn't quite correct as Bermuda states no testing will be required for cruise travelers arriving October 25 onwards. The discrepancy only appears to affect one cruise, the Norwegian Joy's October 22 sailing, which arrives in Bermuda on October 25. Bermuda says no testing will be required, but NCL's version of the rules requires testing.
