  1. Hash Browns are suppose to be prepared on Grills not deep fried. Triangles are deep fried like in Mc D. One time I saw them on the QM2 in the buffet area turned away from looking at them..
  2. Many ships change docking directions like the QM2 in Boston or Halifax. One placement makes the difference in departing from the dock. Backing out or departure straightforward. One Newport visit we did spin slowly till we were straight ready at end of day.
  3. We're 175 till the 4th.. Taking a friend on the Mary 2 4 the 1st time.
  4. Not just land at sea. We look forward to approach of a Port and transit a Harbor. Even docked, if you face outside the Harbor or face the Port of Call. We enjoy facing Halifax and in Quebec the City proper..
  5. Also depends if ship will spin or using thrusters to keep her steady...
  6. Was not impressed this past September when we sailed in Princess Grill. To crowded at tea time, not much after dinner social crowd to meet. Enjoyed drink in the restaurant during dinner than in Grill.
  7. RKA we enjoyed your talented comments and suggestions in Professional and Amateur Foodie subjects. May RKA Sleep In Peace.......
  8. We were happy with the accommodates in Princess Grill but also Britannia Club on the sailing before. If we needed to add to the collection of items, we would bring them from the Kings Court. I am even using the Hot Chocolate mix at home from now on we found online. We are happy.
  9. Happy New Year to All Food Critics Sailing the Open Seas. Looking forward to seeing and sharing many new ideas and recipes along the way...
  10. I enjoy homemade ice cream with fruit from the garden and cream from the diary
  11. Don't forget the Cherry Jubilee I hope you learned how to make on board. Our M'd taught us well for future use. What a accomplishment for BA.......
  12. Speak to the M'd in Club. We have found them very helpful to make your sailing memorable.
  13. Saw you going under the bridge last night and the ship was bright and beautiful..
  14. Once again, it depends on the particular ship and MDR you and others are speaking about specifically. One can not accuse all ships and MDR's under this subject. This subject is reflecting what one has experienced and the decision one makes for a quiet dinner on embarkation evening. Again, enjoy your meal wherever you wish.
  15. Agree want to enjoy a cruise especially a first time or first time on a particular ship, you still want a good experience that inexpensive will not affect it. We too live 12 minutes from my Terminal.
  16. First, I honestly think it depends on the Ship and Line you select that first matters. Our choice is Cunard and we sail on the QM2 if it matters to the subject. We honestly never see this activity on board at anytime. Our first cruise on her was short 5 days to see if we would like her. Yes previous QE2 or HAL were longer cruises but we were looking at what she offered in food, activities and atmosphere. We knew longer days would also be different. I remember the then Cruise Director on the First Night Intro in the theater stated this short sailing was used by many to see if they would like in the future for longer. He also stated it would be a party type cruise since it was on 4th of July week but other sailings were more routine. But still without that crazy pushy atmosphere. PARTY AND MEGA SHIPS...are not for us.
  17. Trying to understand your point related to the original subject
  18. We hope you enjoy your experience of possibly trying a specialized restaurant on the first evening. But granted I am attempting to understand everyone on this board with not approaching the Main Dining Room on the first evening. Yes every first night will be crowded with the restaurants settling in to a normal routine by the second evening. But isn't the excitement of returning to cruising or experiencing your first sailing part of the first evening in the Main Dinings Rooms. Sure it will be crowded with passengers and staff settling in on the first evening but aren't there going to be other evenings a needed quiet dinner will be available. Seeing the crowds on the Pier excited and anticipating the boarding a ship (again or first time) and seeing their awl is part of cruising. We always settle in and enjoy the MDR and look forward to when to enjoy something special down the line. Excitement is part of cruising. Aren't getting away from the everyday to on board activities to enjoy. Well it boils down to whatever people like to do that will make them happy. Bon Voyage....in the future.
