  1. Might have to stand shoulder to shoulder. Mostly Monday - Friday. Saturday and Sunday would be ok, unless there is a game at the Aviva Stadium. Here are details of the Dart & Green bus offer... https://dodublin.ie/city-sightseeing-tours/cruise-ship-dun-laoghaire
  2. Webcams for sailaway from Amsterdam. Should be sailing soon! https://live.netcamviewer.nl/Webcam-Kade-PTA/242?fbclid=IwAR32noWMQhmF6_Ge2cR3yjFklHGoyiPbp8hyJZi7i-N2D4t06L_HGp29Kgg https://www.portofamsterdam.com/nl/ontdek/beleef-de-haven/webcam-amsterdam
  3. Hello everyone! Just a quick post incase anyone feels like a sailaway! Rotterdam will be leaving Amsterdam in a few minutes. webcams: https://live.netcamviewer.nl/Webcam-Kade-PTA/242?fbclid=IwAR32noWMQhmF6_Ge2cR3yjFklHGoyiPbp8hyJZi7i-N2D4t06L_HGp29Kgg https://www.portofamsterdam.com/nl/ontdek/beleef-de-haven/webcam-amsterdam
  4. Eat it with a few beers. If you get sick then you can blame the beer. 🍻
  5. Hotel New York is the old head office of HAL. It makes a lovely pre cruise hotel. Breakfast is good, but I would skip dinner there if I stayed again. There is great memorabilia around the public areas of the hotel. It is just a walk to the terminal building. Or there is Rotterdam V ship which has been converted to a hotel and is located close to the terminal.
  6. Got a couple for the Arctic Circle, including one to Iceland where the Captain obviously made a slight detour north to actually cross the circle.
  7. A couple of links: https://www.irishrail.ie/en-ie/train-timetables/timetables-by-route https://www.irishrail.ie/IrishRail/media/Timetable-PDF-s/Connolly-DART-timetables/4-_18-_dart_commuter.pdf
  8. Saturday is ok. Just not quite as frequent as Monday to Friday. Sunday is a much reduced service with a much later start time. (first dart from Dun Laoghaire on a Sunday is 09.18 am. on a Saturday the first one is 06.29am - makes a big difference with trying to get to the various tourist attractions in the city centre)
  9. Thank you for saying this. I did want to say something about eating/drinking/visiting Temple Bar, but could not find anything that CC did not blank out. Enough to say....Don't go there!. Long Hall is a great pub. I used to frequent a nearby, but long gone watering hole called 'The Chinaman' at the back of Dublin Castle. The closest The Chinaman got to food was a pickled egg! 🤣 Things have changed, not just the prices.
  10. Is the port Dun Laoghaire? The Dart station is very close to where the ship's tenders come ashore. Day return tickets can be purchased from the machine inside the station. It is a commuter train so will be very crowded between 7.30am - 9.30am and again from 4pm - 6pm. Sunday service is almost non existant.
  11. Thanks for the info. I had Nieuw Amsterdam 'pencilled in' for dry dock in October 2024, so I obviously got that one wrong.
  12. We have over 80 days on the "Problem Child" and 'cherished' every one of them 😁 Never had a power outage nor felt any concern for our safety. Top class crew. All before Covid of course (including February 2020 when there was only whispers of a virus in China 😟), but would have no hesitation in sailing on her again, if only she wasn't posted to the 'wild west coast' 🤣
  13. In Rotterdam there was a priority queue but in Trieste there was not. I would think that Barcelona will not have a priority queue either. HAL sails constantly from Port Everglades during the winter season and can take time to educate the check in staff about priority. In Europe HAL does not have many ports where they embark ships. Amsterdam and Rotterdam would be the exceptions, I think. But, Barcelona, Civitavecchia, Trieste, Lisbon etc, will see maybe one HAL ship embark every 3 or 4 weeks and the staff will not be fully aware of the priority situation. Also, I don't know if HAL arranges embarkation staff or if it is supplied by the port authority on an 'as required' basis.
  14. Em, you are the one making the fuss! remember posting this?
  15. Post #1 states " It took about 25 minutes to fully resolve" Now maybe I misunderstood, but to me that implies that the power was out for 25 minutes (what other resolution is there to a power outage?)
  16. I don't think a 'fry dock' would do anything if there is no power for the pans! But really, one reported outage of 25 minutes in 8 years of sailing? Wish my power at home was as reliable.

  18. Couple of things to look at, very carefully. Make sure that you are looking at similar currencies. Your location is B.C., so is the fare in CDN $ or US$ ? The HIA add on for $50 per day is most definitely US$50 per day. Also at the moment HAL is offering 'Have it Al'l on some cruises and "Have it All Early Booking Bonus" on later cruises. Standard HIA does not include Crew Appreciation, nor does it include premium wifi nor elite beverage pack. Standard HIA offers 'Surf' wifi and standard Beverage Pack (US$11 per drink, up to 15 per day). The HIA Early Booking Bonus does include Crew Appreciation and the upgraded wifi and beverage packs. However, I do agree with you that some of the pricing is a little on the crazy side. I have noticed various cruises where the price of HIA at the time of booking is considerable more than the cost of adding it after booking. Also, the cost of HIA included in the cruise fare at the time of booking does seem to vary between stateroom categories even on the same cruise.
  19. I don't know if that is completely accurate as the ship needs to manoeuvre so that the tenders are in the lee of the ship and they also use azipods in conjunction with the dynamic positioning system which they use instead of anchors.
  20. You really should post this in the Northern Europe ports forum. HAL does not provide shuttle buses but it is the port authorities. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/116-northern-europe-amp-baltic-sea/
  21. Thanks for that info. Looking at the HAL website and they have updated the itinerary to show the ports you mention. Good luck for Lerwick. It is a tender port and a lot of times the wind/swell is too much for safe tendering.
  22. Another thread mentions revisions to Nieuw Statendam itineraries due to a technical problem that cannot be fixed until dry dock. Have you heard anything about this? Perhaps there will be an 'Meet the Captain' session and you could ask Captain Noel is he disappointed to be missing Cork (his home port) on the August cruise!
