What would you change?

If you were designing the next ship, what would you do differently? What would you bring back from earlier cruising, what would you get rid of?

Here are mine:

I would get rid of the mini-golf. I just don't get it. It takes up a lot of real estate, and it's not even that good. I think the novelty wore off quite a while ago.

I would make sure there was some sort of aft bar outside. I love the ships I've been on that have an aft bar looking out over the wake of the ship.

I would get rid of the Revolving Doors that go out to the Pool Deck and make them Sliders...I would have a small late night Buffet that would serve breakfast items...Real (Dorm Size) Refrigerators in cabins instead of the "cooler" type they have now.. Shower Tub combos in all cabins....Windows throughout the Promenade area..so it's less like a Shopping Mall....."High Speed" capability internet....I could go on and on ....I'm sure there will be lot's of good ideas given..too bad no one designing these ships asks ;)

Shower Tub combos in all cabins

Hmmm... Not sure how I feel about giving up that much space in all cabins for a tub. I could see splitting the difference and maybe having a larger shower, but a tub takes up a lot of real estate, and I don't really see myself taking a bath.

Here's one I'd like to see: full wraparound promenade decks. I love walking on the promenade deck, but I wish I could get around forward and aft. (I know some of the newer ships are starting to do this- Carnival Dream for one, I believe).

They do it in the JS...so if their redesigning..allow for the space...There are some other cruiselines that have this type of tub/shower..so It can be done..But then again I am a tub person..that's the reason I won't stay in any less than a JS...love the GS bathroom...Hmmm maybe that's why they will never do it ...keep people like me in the suites..LOL LOL :D

I agree about the wraparound promenade decks. That's one thing that I miss from earlier cruise ships. I used to love to just walk all the way around the ship and stop at both the bow and aft and just take in the ocean view.

Definitely have tubs in ALL cabins...and make the cabins bigger! Jeez--some of them are soooooo tight!

Outdoor dining, like the Radiance class ships have...that's very nice in warm climates!

Larger elevators--it would be nice to be able to fit more than 9 or 10 people in a car without being JAMMED in like sardines!

Someplace in the cabin to eat a meal, without having to lean over the coffee table...or hold your plate on your lap!

I like the mini-golf! Those with kids it's a fun family activitie to do together! Your not always going to ship the kids off to AO! And just for the record there are none in our town! so no the novelty has not wore off ;)

Easy question-RCCL needs more quad rooms with a pullman and a sofa bed. Most quads on RCCL ships just have a double sofa bed for the 3rd and 4th passenger, and most kids, depending on their ages, DO NOT want to sleep together, no matter how big the bed is.

Also, just more triples and quads to begin with. I just booked a spring break cruise, and there were maybe 8 ships that had zero triple availablitity 6 weeks out.

I am not a fan of Carnival, but I must admit they are way better in the triple and quad department. Most of their quads are a single sofa bed and a pullman...but I still don't like them.:p

Wow....are you right !! These doors are a disaster !!

I would make smaller ships! Love the Radiance Class !!! :)

Laundry rooms on each passenger deck (like Princess). Really convenient on longer cruises. You can pack less and do laundry once. Great for quck pressing items since we can't bring irons on board anymore.

And it's come a long way since the days when mini golf was literally boxes lined in felt at the back of the ship! :p I vote for wraparound (teak) promenade decks too..loved the Statendam's. Keep ships smaller too, like Radiance class and Celebrity's former Horizon and Zenith.

We used to enjoy opening our balcony when we were traveling with others so we could just wander from room to room and sit and enjoy each other. The last 3 cruises we have been on, they have not allowed that. I would make it so that if it is agreeable to all parties, you could open the partition(s) between the room(s) and have one nice long balcony.

Things to add and bring back:

1 I miss having a Promenade Deck that was made of teak instead of something that looks like high school track.

2 I agree with the all-around promenade

3 Some of the original RCCL ships had an open sports deck off the back which you could use for open air stretching and calesthenics

and horse racing and turtle racing (go back aways)

4 Like some of the old ocean liners, The Dreamward of NCL had a pool in the aft section which you could get into and watch the wake of the ship. It also had the restaurants look out over that pool. Cool.

For 3 and 4 suck it up you AFT-ers for the good of the ship.

5 An adults only sun deck above the bridge.

6 Bring back the Viking Crown Lounge. Stop calling it all these other names. It's what made RCCL famous.

7 I want my Shipshape Dollar Program back. I still have my yellow T-Shirt

somewhere

8. Figure out a bio-degradable way to bring back skeet shooting

9 Pool side BBQ's. Now that's the stuff.

Things to drop:

a. the Rock Wall - once you've done it once what's the point?

Why would you do it in the first place, I can't even climb over the shower edge after partying the night away.

Things to change:

Figure out a way to stop forcing everyone thru the casino which is full of smokers and going past all the shoppers to go fore and aft from theater

to dining room (I know, you want everyone to shop)

Promenade decks are our favorite - we look for ships with them. We love to "stroll" at night after dinner. Usually very few take advantage of this so we are often alone.

An easy change would be a bigger taller table on the balcony so you can actually put more than one plate on the table.

Outside bars are noisy. Sorry we love the quiet of the aft!

Nice thing is with RCCL there are many different types of ships and designs. Radiance class gives you more windows for those of us who love the ocean. The bigger ships we enjoy too but they do have different feel.

I agree - I hate going through the casion esp w/our DD...we had to go around which isn't always easy because kids are not allowed

1. deeper balconies with loungers (as we have with aft cabins).

1a. deeper balconies with regular table and chairs as on Princess Caribe deck.

2. forget the bathtub...we've had them on RCCL in JSs; I'm tall and can't stand comfortably when using the showerhead because of hitting my head on the ceiling.

3. "Ultimate Balcony Dinner" as on Princess...they beat any meal offered on RCCL.

4. Additional Radiance class ships (even though we love the Oasis concept)...the Radiance class is beautifully designed.

Well in looking over the lists, I agree with eliminating the revolving doors going out unto the Pool, don't mind the Mini Golf. The tub/shower would take up alot of room, they would almost have to eliminate something. Another improvement, make larger closets, & shelves inside. Oh deffinately build another Radiance Class.

Here's one I would change, and I hope bringing this up doesn't make this thread go crazy.

I understand that they won't let you bring alcohol on board. But I wish RCI would institute a program like Celebrity or most of the other lines, where you can purchase a bottle to have in your room. A couple years back, we had a large family cruise on Celebrity. And I know my parents always enjoy a nightcap in their room, so as a gift, I pre-ordered a bottle of Jack Daniels and it was waiting in their room. Definitely NOT a good deal, but an awful nice option.

I love the idea of interior cabins with a "view", like the new Disney ship. Also I love to see an adult friendly waterslide that some other lines have. While we love the solarium with its peace and quiet, we also like the more active choices. My 20 something DDs and SIL, and DH all used the rock climbing wall and flowrider a ton on our last cruise, in fact I even got my old self on the flowrider!
