Do you hate sea days?

I love sea days. I enjoy looking at the sea, the wake, the lacy foam pushing away from the ship. No two seconds alike on the foam. I guess I love the sea and cruising allows me to indulge this love. Love seeing the horizon empty, except for the occasional tanker or other cruise ship. "How deep is the ocean, how high is the sky?" A romantic at heart am I.

add us to the Love Sea Days. Just finished a Princess Hawaii cruise with 4 seadays there and 4 back. We've done 2 Celebrity TransAtl and had full days on all. Not just relaxing and reading but lectures, games and socializing.

I still work but my wife doesn't anymore but she's replaced worktime with volunteer time so she needs the Sea Day downtime more than me.

Personally, there's nothing quite like standing on my balcony looking at that sharp-edged horizon.

I used to not like sea day. I used to get bored and feel restless. However, on my last cruise, a B2B, I had time to RELAX completely and since we had 15 days, I was not worried about trying to cram everything into the vacation. Now, I don't mind sea days. I don't get much time to relax at home, and I have a very stressful job. I am actually looking forward to my 5 sea days on my upcoming 14 night cruise.

Years ago, when I first began cruising,I didn't like sea days but rather enjoyed port intensive itineraries. Now that I'm just a little older,I really enjoy the sea days as it makes for a relaxing, peaceful and enjoyable cruise.Doing "nothing" for several days balances the experience!

Love the sea days! Next trip is port intensive, but after that, we'll probably do another TA. There's nothing to compare to the feeling of leaving that last port, listening to the ship's horns, & knowing that you have 6 days of absolute relaxation ahead of you. Plus they throw in an extra hour of sleep each night! As long as my kindle is full & my alcohol pkg is paid for, I'm good to go.

Count us in with people who love sea days. So relaxing but there are lots of activities going on if you want to do something. And if not- there's always just vegging on the balcony with a drink in one hand and a good book in the other.

Love Sea Days on a nice ship! The islands and ports kind of all look the same after a while, with a few exceptions (St. Maartens, Barbados, ...). My DH especially likes it I think, as I'm stuck on the ship and can't do much shopping -- well, sort of ;)

I, like the majority, love sea days. A perfect mix for me would be a port/sea/port/sea (etc.) itinerary, so that we could recouperate from our land-based activities.

On our last cruise, we only had 2 sea days and the first day was almost completely taken up with CC activities:

Slept in

Late breakfast

Photographed the buffet brunch in the MDR

CC slot pull

Brunch in the MDR with CC friends

CC cabin crawl

Wine tasting

Hang out in the solarium

Cocktail with CC friends at the aft bar

Get ready for dinner

Almost as exhausting as a port day!:D On longer cruises, we can spread some of this out more and have more time to relax.

We have a TA coming up this fall and I can't wait to have a few days in a row to relax and explore the ship!

I'm so happy to see that others feel the same as we do. The reason that we cruise is that it's such a relaxing vacation. I'm sure you've all heard the famous cruse quote; "if you drop your room key, just wait a second and someone will come along and pick it up for you." I realize that a few years ago that may have been absolutely true. However, even today when you get on a cruise ship there's little to worry about and we're pretty well cared for. There's no other vacation, and we do many others, where I relax like on do on a cruise ship.

Many of the ports seem to blend together, but we have special memories of every ship that we've cruised on.

Love sea days - in fact if there was a 14 day or longer cruise with no sea days, we would jump on it. For us, the cruise and cruiseship is the vacation - the ports are just extras. If we wanted ports as our primary vacation experience, we would do a land based vacation.

After reading all the reasons why so many people love sea days, I know why I don't like them.... they're just like home for me. I like the port days because there's something to DO, a reason to get up and get out, something besides what I do at home (read, do puzzles, sit, relax, go for a walk, have a cup of coffee, talk to a friend, figure out what we'll have for dinner, go shopping, etc). Sea days are just another day to me.

But those days at home don't come with crew--someone to do all the cooking, washing, cleaning. They don't come with the ocean either (at least where I live). I'll take the sea days any day!!!

True... but it's just me here so there's not a lot to cook, wash or clean. AND, I come from an island in Maine. :)

There are so many wonderful responses. I must say that when I posted this thread I had no idea that the topic would generate so much discussion. The one obvious point that has been made by all responders is that we enjoy being onboard a ship..anywhere, anytime. Bon Voyage!
