I enjoy chatting with fellow cruisers, would love to share experiences with others over 55. This section of the board is just pretty dead. DH & I are both over 55 & looking forward to a relaxing as well as exciting cruise aboard the Dream in Nov, 2012.

I've yet to figure out why "over 55" makes any difference AT ALL to cruising specifically, or vacationing in general!

The great majority of us are in the "prime" of our lives and enjoy having a great time, and even partying a bit!

There are boards for "families", because they have specific questions and concerns. Same for folks with disabilities....but I really can't understand why the magic age of 55 makes any difference at all!

The only "magic" is the ability to hit the "55+" button on the "Excusive Savings" menu on the on-line reservation booking for for RCI in chasing a discount!

Yes I believe the 55+ has to do with when we start getting those senior discounts. I have gotten very involved with my roll call for upcoming cruise, but most posters are in their 30-40's range-my kid's age. I was just hoping to connect with other 55+ to perhaps book our next cruise with, or maybe even find other 55+ who are booked on the Dream, but do not do the roll call thing.

We cruise Carnival because of the lower fares, have done 1 RCCL but found we like the more active atmosphere of CCL. Yes, we are celebrating the best time of our lives- No kids to worry about at home-While we are not wealthy, we are financially stable- We enjoy the luxury of being retired (DH) & a good amount of vacation time(myself)- We also are fortunate enough to have good health.

I believe 55+ are unique in the fact that we have more freedom than the younger pax do. While we enjoy cruising, we also like other forms of travel. We love road trips in our RV. We are looking at doing some type of train trip, also love flying to a destination just to explore & have a good time.

I was just hoping to liven up this board a bit- at least you all are looking- thanks for posting.

I agree! I would love to have a thread going where I can stop in to see what everyone is doing. I love cruising and I love to read about excursions and islands. It seems as though, there are enough threads sharing complaints. I am happy to be over 55 and looking forward "chillaxin" in Feb!

Yes, agreed. Out on the main board it seems like mostly complaints. Even when a thread starts out good-- it turns sour. I get to be onboard before you --ha ha. Yes I too love cruise chat. These boards have given me excellant ideas for excursions. Even tho we are 55+, we can still have a great time. We are not in the nursing home yet, these are the best years of our lives.

We love to travel for fun now that we are retired. The last 12 years before retirement I got to travel extensively....however, it was to industrial sites. Not much in the way of sightseeing. Travel....work 10-12 hours a day....travel....repeat. We are only going to stop for two reasons...the money runs out or we can't physically do it anymore.

The one thing that I have noted as I got older was in my little black phone book....most of the names have MD after them!

I had to snicker at this MD mention. We've still got more names w/o MD after em, but the MD's are multiplying:eek:

We have travled for work related reasons over the years. I try to find something to do while Hubby is in meetings. I see you are from Kansas. We have been there several times. Always to Kansas City and always downtown. Is there a Jack Stack's BBQ in your area? I am retired now, so more time to cruise!

I am originally from Kansas City KS. There is Jack stack in Kansas City Mo. I worked downtown KCMO for years. Did you go into Crown Center in KCMO? My brother now owns a burger joint in Crown Center, if you've been there in the past 10 years you may recognize the name. Fritz's the place where you can get your burger delivered by a train. We are travel aholics too. We love seeing the country in our RV, cruising is another favorite form of travel. With cruising dh doesn't have to drive. It is great to hear from another midwesterner. Happy sailing.

hello- well, I am glad Banditswife started this thread - I like to chitchat about cruises, vacations and anything in general - don't like complaints and people who like to put in their negative attitudes like they do on some of the other threads... i am from CA and I love to cruise - have been on CC for a while as you can tell from the chit chat points I have! ha!ha!

So here I am...........

Hi Corkey! I like this thread, too! Good conversation and no complaining! Love it!

Yes, BanditsWife, I have been to Fritz's. Is it by the Lego store in the Crown Center? It's been awhile but I remember going to a place that served Hamburgers by train...How Fun! Love the Crown Center, too....We usually go the first week of December so it's beautifully decorated. This year we will be going to Nebraska, though!

A while back I was in for my annual check up with my doctor. I have had him for years, but he has so many patients, and I know he cannot remember "everything." He told me I was looking good (most people don't think I am 69), and said they are saying now, people in their 60's are now the new generation of 50's. I liked that.:)

Hmmm that reminds me of an incident when I took a patient to radiology for a series of films. The tech asked me if I might be pregnant! I said NO but thanks for asking! It's like being carded!

But I might add that I qualify for the theater/movie discounts and also for some dept stores - and I was given the discounts without any questions or a blink of their eyes - so I am at my age now! ha!ha! hey, just give me the discounts I am proud to be OLD. Corkey

Sorry, haven't checked this thread in a few days. Howdy Corkey, misty57, beshears & sombrero6 & anyone else.

Being carded: love it. Funny story, but a few years back. Went to the casino w/ my 22 year old son & DIL. They carded them, so then they carded me.:D I said- hey I'm his mother. I was in my mid 40s at the time. Loved it.

Food: grew up eating burgers, since Fritz's started out being a family owned business till my brother bought dad out. I still have a burger named after me. Ha Ha Everytime dad made a boo boo on the grill, we had to eat it for dinner. Nothing worse than an old, cold burger, but I survivied.

Glad to hear from some fellow 55+ers. Have a great day folks. I am in my double digits til my next cruise. Woo Hoo
