Jayrrrrrrr Posted February 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2013 Hello, riviera cruise in march...I know it's casual, but should I bring a sports jacket? I will always wear slacks and a nice polo...but a jacket for certain restaurants? Thank you, Jeffrey
Mura Posted February 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2013 It's not a matter of "should". You may if you wish, but don't feel pressured to wear it. Some men do, others don't. It's your choice. Mura
Rare LHT28 Posted February 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2013 Not required Some men like to wear one but it is a personal choice DH is leaving his at home this trip

orchestrapal Posted February 23, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2013 You may want a jacket of some kind for the times the MDR is cold.;)
digtexas Posted February 23, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2013 I brought it, but did not need it and only wore it once. I sometimes put a sweater on my shoulders in case restaurants are cold. I probably won't take it next time.
Terryd444 Posted February 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Ssshhh! Is it wrong of me not to tell DH that jackets are optional! He never comes to forums...and I've been telling him to bring one 'cos it looks so smart....especially for the specialty restaurants....plus he saw the brochures... Don't tell..... Heh heh Terry
Mura Posted February 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Our lips are sealed! :D On our last O cruise (Regatta in August 2012, Black Sea) we shared a table with another couple in the GDR the first or second night. He was in a suit and tie and asked me what the dress code was. I told him. The next night we saw this couple in Polo and suddenly he was in casual attire. He was most delighted that I'd given him the info. Just wished he'd known before they left for the cruise that he didn't need the suit and/or tie! Terryd444 Posted February 24, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 24, 2013 If I'd told DH suit and tie....he never would have agreed to the cruise! Yes...I'll consider myself lucky if he does the sports jacket two nights once he sees the overall casualness....! Terry

You should wear a cardigan you great Aunty knitted. :p They will probably turn up the heating to encourage you to take it off. ;)

silvercruiser Posted February 24, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 24, 2013 The comic strip "Cathy" used to have funny discussions of the difference between dressy casual and casual dressy.
edgee Posted March 1, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 1, 2013 Am on my first Oceania cruise now. Ten day cruise on Riviera. My sport jacket has remained in my stateroom closet for the past week and will stay there until I put it in my suitcase when cruise ends on Monday. Only reason for a sport jacket on Oceania would be if dining rooms are cool and you want one for warmth..perhaps on a Baltic cruise or similar. calvin81 Posted March 1, 2013 #20 Share Posted March 1, 2013 Jayrrrr: You have me concerned -- were many choices gone 45 days out? We are in a balcony cabin as well, but never had a problem on the smaller ships booking 45 days out. Did you want early or late?

Rare Caroldoll Posted March 1, 2013 #24 Share Posted March 1, 2013 you may be glad you brought one. I have noticed quite a few gentlemen have been wearing them. We had an invitation where I was thankful I had packed one for my DH. Personal thing.
