Just lost $780...(no price match) grrrr.

Booked the W guarantee. Got a JS assigned. The next higher (GS) is still much higher than my original price, but I'll keep watching.

See if they will throw you back into the guarantee pool and perhaps the computer will be nicer to you. They used to do that, but perhaps that doesn't happen any more, either.

I HATE that RCCL won't honor their own price drops after final payment. I booked Oasis for 8/31, departing in about 3 weeks, so it's after final payment. I booked it a few days ago. Now today, the W price is down $780 for the 2 of us. The price guarantee only applies within 48 hours of booking. HATE THAT. I know there are those of you who will say "You were happy with the price when you booked it" and that is basically true. But, it's a tough pill to swallow knowing if I waited a few measly days, I'd have an extra $780 for the casino! LOL LOL. Even retailers such as Target will honor their lower prices for several WEEKS after a purchase! Oh well, live and learn. And true, they don't charge you more when the price goes UP. But, geez.

If they honored price reductions at ANY time, I would think people would book sooner, as there'd be no risk. Then they wouldn't have to have these last minute sales! LOL

That could be a new "Crown and Anchor" benefit....honoring price drops for C&A members at any time! Wouldn't that be nice?

I'm sorry... that sucks... :(

I don't know if it'll make you feel any better, but I just took a look at the pricing for a Cat W on your sailing and I don't think I've ever seen them that low! I wouldn't have guessed that they'd have gone down from what you paid and would have happily booked a suite guarantee at the price you paid (in fact I have).

OP,

Hope you have the luck we had this week ;) We booked a Cat X on a Freedom in December. Already have our cabin assigned and it is a D1. Savings of $880 total. Probably more since our insurance is based on the price of the cruise :)

I just took a look at the suite inventory and if you don't mind the possibility of being assigned a different JS I'd ask to be thrown back into the guarantee pool... There aren't many JS's left (all on Deck 6 and 7), there's only 1 GS left, but there are a handful of each OS and L1 cabins so I think it's possible that you may get a better assignment the second time around.

As a Cruise Agent, I can tell you for a fact that once final payment has passed, Royal Caribbean won't adjust the price and refund you the difference. You may be able to upgrade to a higher category based on what you paid, but there is no refund.

They used to refund the difference in an on board credit, but they no longer do that.

And if you did not use the OBC the money was refunded to you after the cruise.

I'm totally ok with it now....this is our 41st RCCL cruise, and the vast majority of the time, the price INCREASES and they don't charge us MORE. So, I'll take a hit this time! Plus, on the last 2 cruises (On Allure and Oasis) they upgraded us to a CL. So, I'm still money ahead! LOL I'm glad many of the others were able to upgrade with a fantastic rate.

Plus, we'll get a fabulous Oasis "crystal block" on this sailing for crossing 490 points. (Ok, that's one expensive block...LOL)

 • 1 month later...
Same thing happen to me just now. I saw a price drop of approximately 400$ for the both of us. When I did my final payment last month, AC vacations said after final payment, if there is a price drop, we can try to contact RCCL and hope to get onboard credit. I just called, and they immediately called a Royal rep and said it only applies to those who booked between Sept. 1st to Sept. 30th. Bunch of bu#s#it they coming up with.

No point of looking at price drop!

Why did you book when you did? Why didn't you just wait a "few measly days?"
Here is the problem... if you wait the price may go up. If you book "now" you lock in a cabin you want at a price you are willing to pay. I am on a cruise in Feb. 2014. When I booked the balconies were $1650 for an 11 night. A friend wanted to go but decided to wait for the "price drop." A month later the price was $2100. Now it's $3400. Glad I booked early. RCI, like airlines and hotels, will drop prices close to cruise date if the ship is not full. If you are willing not to go, then wait. Otherwise book at an acceptable price then upgrade if the opportunity arises.
Not unlike booking airplane tickets. That's why I book at a the price I'm comfortable with and don't check after final payment . There will always be people that paid more than you and people that paid less.
Except Alaska Airlines will give credit if its the exact itinerary! Done it my self several times:)

I hate to admit this, but in reading this thread, it brought alittle tear to my eyes.....this poor guy only has 489 cruise points........about 200 more pending, and they won't give him a price drop.......I'm feeling kinda sorry for you now knowing you will probably have to eat soup and sandwiches now next week without that price drop.....:D  :)

That is why I book on Southwest Airlines as much as possible. They might not give you cash back, but at least they give you a credit to use on the airline within one year of original purchase. I have used this multiple times.

But I prefer the way hotels and rental cars do it instead. Many times I have booked a hotel and have checked the price the weeks before and rebooked using the lower price. Why pay more?
It amazes me how some people just have such trouble showing even just a bit of empathy on these boards.
Agreed. Had the roles been reversed, I know I would probably post on these boards too. Not that this would solve anything.
I'm a new cruiser and my first cruise was free - just booked my second. Did I make a mistake in paying in full up front. If the price drops before final payment do you pay the lower price.

Thanks.
You still get back the difference. But, wonder why did you pay in full prior to the due date. I love it as a stockholder the usage of your money.:D:D

After final payment, there is no point looking for price drops for your cabin category.

Your travel agency evidently told you "we can try to contact RCCL and hope to get onboard credit, " then, when the price drop happened, they called and got a no (per policy, with or without reference to booking dates). In a sense, they did as they said they'd do, but did they tell you enough? Perhaps if the TA had told you the line's standard policy (no price drops or OBC after final payment), you would not feel upset or deceived. Perhaps the TA did not know the policy and did not bother to check it on your behalf (bad TA). Or alternatively, perhaps the TA really wanted you to make final payment (so the TA would get the commission for the cruise), so perhaps the TA gave you a vague, incomplete answer to get you to make that final payment (again bad TA). Maybe your TA deserves your wrath. Water under the bridge for this cruise, but worth considering before booking future travel.

Moving on, the important question for this cruise is : Have the prices of better categories also dropped?
If so, is there a better category for which you'd now like to pay the difference to upgrade? No promises, but getting a upgrade after final payment is far more likely than OBC or price drop.

Sorry about that Peter :( The flip side of that coin is booking earlier and then seeing prices climb to over $1,000 MORE pp for a cabin than what you booked it for :D
