Boarding denied? Why?

You can be denied for health issues. While with most lines you just fill in a questionaire yourself, MSC has thermal imaging cameras that search for abnormal temperature.

I had a couple denied boarding behind me in Barcelona. They were actually checking prior to entering the terminal just prior to screening carry on luggage. They continued to use this throughout the cruise when returning to the ship, but not sure what would happen mid-cruise.

Hiding "smoking" materials in empty/fake bottom shaving cream cans.

one of my favorites..

Reasons to be denied :

incorrect /missing paperwork

being suspected of having noro or other gastrointenstinal illness

harrassive or abusive behavior towards Crew, or security.

attempting to smuggle or hide anything( even if it is 'legal')

you can also be kicked off AFTER boarding for things like refusing to attend the mandatory muster drill.

Trying to board with someone else's green card and her driver's license with her own name. They were in front of us and her bridegroom was livid that they wouldn't let her board. He was going to sue his TA for not saying she had to have her own documentation.

And the Darwin award goes too........:D

Thats hilarious but they werent actually denied boarding. They boarded the ship, enjoyed lunch in the WJ, walked around the ship a few hours had a drink or two and THEN were kicked off the ship!

I was on that cruise and remember that well. She participated in our roll call for months.

While not the seasoned cruiser most here are, I've never even remotely denied boarding.

I did see one couple on my Conquest cruise a few years ago who were denied boarding because the wife didn't have the correct paperwork. The couple was right in front of me and were pulled out of line before the security machine.

They both had that "faked" shock look on their face. But, the security person called over someone else to look at some papers (not a passport). The couple, who had been speaking in English while in line in front of me, then began speaking in another language to the security personnel, feigning ignorance of English.

Another two security people came over, all of them inspecting their paperwork. Finally, after about 10 mins of this, and the line behind me growing longer, I asked if I could move in front of the couple being detained. They waved me on as they pulled the couple out of the line.

They were still arguing, security in English, the couple in another language, as I headed to the gangway of the ship.

A couple of days into the cruise, I recognized a couple who was behind me in the security line. They said it took another 10 minutes to get through the security checkpoint for them. Apparently, the female of the detained group had a fake passport....they said they saw it in the security personnel's hands. And, that it was a pretty poor fake (given that even a lay person could recognize it as fake).

I often wondered why, given how that scenario transpired, why she needed/wanted a fake passport to take a cruise.

On my first cruise (Spring break cruise in 2006), I saw a college aged student get denied boarding because they apparently were not of full legal age and did not have the proper documentation / approvals to go. They ere part of a large group of students from the same school going. not sure if they ever got on, the last I saw of them they were on a cellphone crying to their parents to have the proper form notarized and faxed (not sure what that would be though for a 17 year old to travel with other college aged students :o )

Too bad the OP's question hasn't been answered a single time so far. I'd like to hear from those people denied boarding too

Yes it has: This was my first post in the thread,

"The most common reason is not having the proper travel documentation."

Others have given examples of witnessing people being denied boarding. So I do believe the question has been answered.

Just because you make it onto the ship doesn't mean you can't still be denied boarding in the long run...

When on the VOS last year I was with my family. My cousin and her husband were put into my muster drill station with me. While standing around waiting for muster drill to start the employees in charge of our spot started calling names. Those names included my cousin and her husband.

They went up to the employee who started talking to them very quietly while they waited for security to show up. I had no idea what was going on; then they were escorted off of the ship!

I started texting my cousin and my cousin's mom who was on the ship with us and I wasn't getting a response from my cousin and my Aunt had no idea what was happening (of course).

Well, luckily for them they made it back on the ship. Why were they escorted off? Security thought they saw ammunition in their luggage! Yes, they do scan and do random checks of all luggage. Of course it wasn't ammo though, it was my cousin's sandals!
