Singles to get Double Points

Recommended Posts

Can you tell me what would happen if because of the extra points you hit diamond status half way through your cruise? Would diamond status apply to that cruise or the next?

Thanks.

Your new status is effective as of the next cruise.

That was me :) No, I was in an obstructed oceanview. I paid about 150% of the double occupancy per person price on the day I booked the cruise. The per person price dropped later on, but they didn't adjust the solo price and kept it about the same as what I paid. I think with all the price fluctuations, at one point my fare was about 180%, but there were never price drops that would have made my fare a full 200% of the listed price.

Lucky you, then! Will you come with me to the casino some time?:p

From the Princess site:

Question: How many cruise credits can I earn per cruise?

Answer: Most passengers will receive one credit per cruise. Passengers who pay for and sail in a full suite will earn 2 cruise credits; Passengers sailing alone in a cabin and paying the exclusive occupancy fare will earn 2 cruise credits; Passengers who sail alone in a cabin and pay for the exclusive occupancy fare for a full suite will earn 3 cruise credits.

It doesn't say anywhere that the fare has to be 200%. The "exclusive occupancy fare" is whatever they're charging for a solo on the day you book, as far as I can tell.

In "My Princess" it shows my two future solo cruises that I have booked and is showing me earning 2 credits per cruise. I am not paying 200% for either of those cruises.

I guess time will tell what sort of fares RCI will be charging for solos now that they have this new policy. Up to now, Princess has been ridiculously cheaper than RCI, almost $800 cheaper for an OCEANVIEW cabin sailing the same week out of Texas. Choosing Princess was a no brainer, even though I really would have preferred Royal - not at those prices:(

Interesting - that's different language from when I looked at it months ago. I like your version better:D.

In the early 2000's we used to alternate between RCI and Princess. Once we factored in the balcony discount, RCI was pretty much the same price, and the service just a notch better, so we switched to them almost exclusively. Now that they've abandoned the Left Coast except for Alaska and the odd Panama Canal transit, we've been looking more closely at Princess. I obviously love sailing on RCI, but if the price is right, Princess is close enough in quality to switch over.

Which has nothing to do with solo cruising.:p

I was on the Sapphire Princess for a California coastal cruise (LA, Santa Barbara, day at sea, San Francisco, day at sea, San Diego & Ensenada). I enjoyed that cruise a lot, though I would prefer Monterey over Santa Barbara. I'll try that one again. However, right now I have two cruises on Royal Caribbean booked for next year totaling 24 nights.

Princess also offers solo cruisers two points per night.

The "announcement" has already been made in a way. It is now posted at the member benefits site. SI and SB are excluded which I assume are the single occupancy cabins.

Additional benefits highlighted by me - number 14 now reads:

14 One Cruise Point for each completed night of sailing and an extra Cruise Point per night when you purchase and sail in suite accommodations (categories RL, RS, PS, SL, TS, A1, A2, A3, CL, OS, FS, GS, JS) and/or sail in any category and pay a single pricing type for double occupancy staterooms. All other rates including Travel Agent rates, as well category SI and SB, are excluded from single price type extra point promotion. Cruisetours are included as an additional night per each day on the cruise tour. Points will be awarded by rate paid not rate berthed, for example, in the instance of an upgrade from an outside to a suite category.

Thanks Gina :D

I have to say I think they are wrong not to give the SB the extra credit as the cruise fare for the SB for a solo was higher than the per person rate for a D8 cabin on opening day.

My SB was - $1579 for solo

Son's D8 - $1429 per person

So I paid more for being solo....in my eyes that means I paid a supplement for sailing solo...or am I missing something

your total was $1579 plus tax, your son's total will be $1429x2 (total 2858) plus tax. You did not pay a supplement as your cabin was priced for solo cruisers. Your son's cabin was not priced for solo cruisers and he will be paying almost double what you are, he is paying extra)

Several people have noted that those studio cabins carry a supplement. Someone did a dummy booking and put two people in a studio balcony cabin and the per person rate was lower than booking it as a single.

Its been posted the supplement was around 135%.

Thank you so much, I knew I had seen that info posted here somewhere but couldn't find it and was starting to think I had dreamt it.

If I read the rules correctly, a single has to be paying double (200%) the per person rate for the cabin to get the extra point per night. It does not appear that someone with over 340 points, and paying only 150%, would be eligible for the extra point as a single.

Hmm im not reading it as 200% .Solo pax that cruised and paid 110% have been given the additional points already.

It that is true, then the only exclusions are the listed exclusions, which include the SI and SB cabins, even if there is a single supplement.

Will let you know in the next day or so as my points for the 3rd Oct Inde cruise have not been added to my account yet, fingers crossed for double or at least one and a half points per night (that's what I pay)

Personally, if I have to choose one or the other, I'll take the 50% reduction over the extra points.
