latitude918 Posted December 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2013 The GF and I are 35 days out from our cruise. This will be her first cruise, and my second, and we are both really excited for it. That being said, I wanted to get a list of odds and ends people usually pack that not everyone thinks of, IE: highlighter for your itinerary, earplugs in case it is loud, etc. Thanks a ton in advance :)

mikeriv79 Posted December 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 10, 2013 What kind of room? My wife and I always book inside cabins so the two things that we need are a travel alarm clock and nightlite(I'm scared of the pitch black).
Rare Scrapnana Posted December 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2013 I always carry a small flashlight with me. If you think you might use room service take some $1 bills to use for tips (also good in the Caribbean to buy small items).
latitude918 Posted December 10, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted December 10, 2013 What kind of room? My wife and I always book inside cabins so the two things that we need are a travel alarm clock and nightlite(I'm scared of the pitch black). We're also on an interior. We don't need anything fancy since very little time is spent in the room. Saves us money we can put towards buckets of beer :p Alarm clock and nightlight. Good idea. OCruisers Posted December 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2013 So far the suggestions have been good ones. All too often people will tell you so many things you "need" to take that you wouldn't have room to pack your clothes if you packed them all. :D LuLu ~~~~
donaldsc Posted December 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2013 I would suggest that you check one of the many many "what to bring" posts on CC. They are all very complete with lots and lots of suggestions. DON

terri-eddie Posted December 10, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 10, 2013 Two things I missed on our first cruise....nail clippers, and a mini eyeglass repair kit.
Langoustine Posted December 10, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) All the above are great suggestions. I would add an eyemask (or two) if the light of the sun filtering into an outside cabin in the morning bothers you, or if one of you gets up earlier than the other and needs to turn the cabin lights on. I also like having a small sound machine (rain, wind, surf, etc.) since it filters out a lot of outside noise and helps me sleep. Some people use a fan for the same reason, but that (and "white noise") actually keeps me awake. Edited December 10, 2013 by Langoustine

headhunterke Posted December 11, 2013 #16 Share Posted December 11, 2013 I always carry an extension cable with several outlets. It came in handy on almost every trip I've made thus far. And of course small bills always come in handy. Both for tipping as small purchases ashore.

EdmPair Posted December 11, 2013 #18 Share Posted December 11, 2013 A stuffed toy from home. Your 'pets' deserve a vacation too. Comfortable deck shoes. As you hike the ship, there are often puddles of water from the various pools and the staff washing decks, so your shoes will have to handle it. Magnets to hold papers to the walls which are often metal. (Busted, I have a soft spot for fridge magnets as souvenirs.)
beachbum53 Posted December 11, 2013 #19 Share Posted December 11, 2013 As someone else mentioned, there are several posts on here with lists of things to bring that you may or may not need. Something that we found to be of invaluable use is a packable backpack for excursions. We each have one, and when packed up are about 4" x 5", so they take up very little room in a suitcase. Each one has a mesh pocket on the outside for carrying a water bottle, and a handle on the top so it can be used as a tote bag. Just do a Google search, and you'll find several to pick from. Suzieanna Posted December 11, 2013 #20 Share Posted December 11, 2013 Mo' money! A great big smile, a friendly spirit and an open mind. The only thing I found myself "without" on my first cruise was a couple of painkillers when I got a bad headache. The cabin next door had some though! Make friends with your neighbours early!! latitude918 Posted December 11, 2013 Author #23 Share Posted December 11, 2013 Am I able to put a power strip in my luggage if I am flying, or will TSA have a hissy about it?
Underwatr Posted December 11, 2013 #24 Share Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) TSA doesn't care. I have a Monster Power power strip like the one Sherlock43031 showed and it used to fly in my laptop bag all the time. donaldsc Posted December 12, 2013 #25 Share Posted December 12, 2013 An additional suitcase or 2 to carry all the stuff that you will not need and will never use but you will take because it is on one of the "must take" lists. DON
