dkny330 Posted January 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Going on the Reflection again in November(!), but can't remember what time the ship docked in Miami the first time. We have a choice of a 10am or 11:10am flight out of Miami...I know its not that much of a difference, but we'd prefer not to have to sit at the airport for another hour if we don't have to. We take our own luggage off the ship and could leave right away. Will that be enough time to catch a 10am flight? Thanks!
cle-guy Posted January 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 7, 2014 I made it from reflection in MIA to FLL airport after my Nov 30 cruise. I was seated at a gate waiting for my aircraft at 10:20 am, after waiting for the transfer bus to fill at the port, and the driver making a couple wrong turns along the way. 10am to MIA should be a breeze. Janet987 Posted January 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2014 We always book a 10:15 out of MIA. We do walk off, and last Dec were through MIA security by 7:30! (Crazy cabbie) If we did miss our flight due to a delay arriving back, we have frequent flyer status that allows re-booking same day, and if there was absolutely no way to get home Saturday, it also would be fine bidding on a hotel for an extra night. If you are OK with your options in a worse case scenario, the 10am is fine.
wedding96 Posted January 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2014 10 A.M. is definitely too risky and should only be considered an option if you're walking off ship with your luggage at 7 A.M. It's not only the disembarkation time you have to consider, but the mass of people at Miami airport most days (especially if there are many cruise ships in port). Check-in and security lines for certain airlines, like American, can be very lengthy unless you have elite status. I had a 11:20 flight after our cruise in December, and only made it on time to gate because my mom needed a wheelchair and so we got escorted all the way through. Even the Priority lines were long. And if flying American, the terminal is HUGE and may require a long walk to the gate.
yogimax Posted January 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Sitting at the airport for one hour is a small price to pay for the security. Take the later flight!
dkjretired Posted January 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Sitting at the airport for one hour is a small price to pay for the security. Take the later flight! Yup,, last thing I want to do is worry during the whole cruise if I'm going to make my flight going home.
Phxazzcruisers Posted January 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2014 10:00 should not be a problem, but as said so well above, 1 hour later is safer and will give you more peace of mind.
c-legs Posted January 7, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 7, 2014 later flight by far the better choice. Even if you're the only ship in town that day, you never know about a multitude of things that can go wrong shoreside to airport gate... Cheers
chessbriar Posted January 7, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) X suggests flights after 12:00. It's just safer. Our last cruise we were back 1:45 minutes late. That led to debarkation starting an hour later than normal. It was only rough seas and a short trip back from the Bahamas. People take the risk and make it. There are times people get stung. Do you want to take the risk and spend the day stressed hoping you make it, or be able to sit and relax in the airport for an hour or so? btw, I've also been on cruises where it's taken over an hour to get through customs. What ever you choose, have a great cruise Edited January 7, 2014 by chessbriar
anonymousegirl Posted January 7, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 7, 2014 I would choose the later flight, just for my peace of mind. That 10am flight will start boarding at 930 latest

TeaBag Posted January 7, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Do you know how many ships are in port that say? I would say take the later flight and relax at the airport.
K.T.B. Posted January 7, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Take the later flight and have some peace of mind. You're on vacation, why have any stress?
Rare keesar Posted January 7, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 7, 2014 On our last Reflection cruise, there was a delay allowing people to get off the ship. People were allowed to leave starting around 8 am. There were also lines and delays at Customs. So you never know... Do you want to take that risk? baggal Posted January 7, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 7, 2014 In early December, the customs lines were horrendous debarking the Reflection. I wouldn't chance it.
Gonzo70 Posted January 7, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 7, 2014 If the choice was 10am versus 5pm for the next flight I might risk the 10am flight (or if there was a large price difference); since the second option is not that much later I'd recommend the later flight. While you can make the 10am flight if there are no delays, you do not have a lot of wiggle room if something goes awry (and if you miss the flight it could result in a very expensive and lengthy delay - who knows what is available on later flights and travel insurance will not provide any relief for additional expenses the airline charges you, or food or hotel costs if another flight that day is not available). There are far worse places to kill time than an airport.
Bosjoe Posted January 8, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 8, 2014 It should be no problem at all since you will do self-debark. I could have made a 9am flight after my Reflection cruise this past November and I had number 2 tags.
Viva_la_Vida Posted January 8, 2014 #18 Share Posted January 8, 2014 Maybe it was an isolated incident, but our self-disembarkation on Reflection was a nightmare - or at least would have been if we were stressing about making a flight! We talked to people who had been in line to exit for over 2 hours, and then customs was another hour line. This was April though (Spring Break), and there were other ships in port. I don't think we cleared until well after 9. I think better safe than sorry.
Tiggertastic Posted January 8, 2014 #19 Share Posted January 8, 2014 we got off a ship on new years day in Miami and they didn't start walk off until 8am. Maybe it was because it was new years day. I would go for the 11.
Biker19 Posted January 8, 2014 #20 Share Posted January 8, 2014 Book the later flight and if you get there early try to get on the earlier flight on standby.
misskitty50 Posted January 8, 2014 #21 Share Posted January 8, 2014 Just a quick FYI. The Celebrity Reflection arrived 2 hours late in to Miami on 12/28 due to a medical evacuation that took place the day before. It caused a two hour delay overall. This was an unusual circumstance, but surely caused problems with those guests with early flights.
Ellen S Posted January 8, 2014 #22 Share Posted January 8, 2014 Depending what day you are coming back the Reflection will be among 5 or 6 ships at the port. Would take that into consideration. Also the Miami airport security could also be backed up. IMHO I would take the later flight.
