Do you disinfect your cabin upon arrival?

I read in another thread about someone cleaning their cabin as soon as they enter. So I purchased some disinfectant wipes to do the same on my next cruise - less than 48 hours! Does anyone else do this and do you have a cleaning ritual?

No, and with over 25 cruises (ocean and river) have never gotten sick. Also, what about hotel stays? Over a thousand of those over my life and I don't think I every got sick.

Do you Germaphobes also wipe down the table and chairs in a restaurant? What about going to someone's house? What about elevator buttons?

No. I'm a healthy individual (with the bumps and bruises issues of getting older) and take my medicine and vitamins every day. I cover my mouth when I cough or sneeze. Not one of my friends or family that I've traveled with for over 30 years has ever done this.

absolutly NOT.

I don't do this when entering a restaraunt, a diner, a hotel room, a rental car, an airplane, or a bar/lounge either.

Might do it when entering MIL's house though.

We've started doing it in the past 2-3 years when all the hullabaloo started about doing just that. It only takes a couple of minutes...no big deal. All you need to do is get sick once, and you will be a convert. With all the noro on ships, it does make sense. I purchased hand santitizer wipes for our next trip--for shore excursions. I am not a germophobe by any means. I just don't want my vacation ruined by picking up someones noro or cold!

We don't do disinfecting cleaning in the cabin.

We do have hand wipes we use after handling casino chips, and for use in ports.

I do wipe off the remote...that's actually the dirtiest thing in the room, whether on a ship or hotel. That's about it.....

There's really no way to "disinfect" your cabin...once your cabin attendant comes in, all of your wiping and cleaning is for naught!

The best way to keep yourself well, is to never touch your face until you've washed your hands. Most folks touch their nose about 4 times per hour...so you really have to break that habit!

Yes actually I use Clorox wipes wiping the handles of the closets & dresser, the desk, the phone. I also put the remote into a plastic bag (I do this in hotels as well). Call me silly but (knock on wood) we haven't had any issues with sickness and yes I will be doing this again in two weeks!

We have well over 120 cruises and have never done cleaned a cabin when we got on a ship. And I do not plan to do so in the future either.

And we have been on quite a few ships that were either in Code Red when we got on or went into Code Red during the cruise. So far neither of us have gotten sick.

We have started doing this I wipe the handles & the remote telephone etc...

Just watch as the room stewards when they clean the rooms with a bucket of water

then come clean your room with the same bucket of dirty water YUCK

I am a convert to clorox wipes:D

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

But I do always wipe out all of the drawers before I put anything in them. There always seems to be some kind of debris in them ... hair strands, maybe some powder, fuzz, etc ... not in every drawer ... but that's what I do.

When I stay in hotels, I normally don't use the drawers at all. I hang up everything I can, and some things stay inside my suitcase.

Never done it.

Nor in a hotel.

Nor at friends' homes.

I'm still alive.

JB :)

Last summer, standing in a long queue at a hot, busy amusement park,

I looked down to see my bored, 4 year old, grandson running his tongue along the handrail.

He's still alive.

We always toss the remote control into a zip lock baggie. The remote isn't going to be germ free with a wipe down. The thought of the previous naked passenger guy laying in bed watching TV and scratching his crotch really does stick with me  so this is why I do this.

Any wiping down is going to get ruined when the room attendant comes through with a reusable cleaning rag anyways :(

Last cruise on the elevator a couple got on. They asked if someone would push the button for them as they didn't want to get germs. No one would so they got off. Too funny, they were pretty mad!

You want me to infect my fingers so you don't have to.

I agree with a lot of the posters here that say they don't.

I do carry wipes with me in case I see something that I think is not quite clean but I don't have a ritual of cleaning upon entering our cabin, hotel room, or any other place we might visit.

I too have traveled extensively throughout the world and have never gotten sick in any of my travels that I would attribute to unsanitary conditions. Yes, I've gotten a cold at one time or another but you can't escape all germs when traveling and how to you stop the fool that doesn't cover his/her mouth when they sneeze!

One thing I must admit though. Since they came out...I always use personal hand sanitizers. Since I've been doing that (plus the normal hand washing after using the rest room or before I eat.), I find that I've had fewer colds. I also get my flu shot every year (since I was about 60) and I haven't had the flu since.

Just lucky?...Maybe.:D

Funny! Glad no one did it for them! :D

It always amazes me the lengths some will go and what they will ask of others.
