Solarium / - I know no kids allowed ... but..

Recommended Posts

On one of our Freedom cruises, we walked through the Living Room and you should have heard the teens hollering at us to "get out" "no adults allowed" "kids only" "boooooooo" and other assorted things. Granted we were simply walking through to get to Johnny Rockets but they no more liked us invading their "private" area than some adults like kids in their adults only area. They too like to have their own special place so why shouldn't adults be allowed to have a place to themselves?

Seriously? You are going to honestly say its okay to behave like a child on this manner? Because a kid said stay out of their area you are going to return the favor and act the same way? Why not act your age and be the ADULT. I have been on many several cruises and its not just my vacation. Everyone is there to have a good time. You sound like the person on our trip in may on the Freedom complianing because they got splashed while sitting 3 ft from the pool.

Holy crap. Yes, lets rope off the Solarium so that the sight of children won't affect your cruise. In return, make sure you don't set foot in the kids area. Why can't people just lighten up?

Actually, you are NOT allowed to set foot in the kids area.

On our first cruise, my offspring were in the teen club. I went up to touch base. I stepped inside the door and was IMMEDIATELY stopped by a RC staff member and told that if I wanted to speak to my child, he would go get him or her and bring him /her outside. I was NOT allowed to enter. AT ALL.

So YOU learn the truth! They enforce "no adults in the kids area" far more fiercely than "no kids in the adult area".

Navigator coming up, and I'm very hopeful that I'll like it and have Liberty booked too! I don't there there's a Park Cafe on Navigator, but haven't looked into Liberty much at all yet.

Liberty and Navigator both are free of food and drink places. I do love the size of the Freedom class solarium. The cantilevered tubs are the only draw for the kids in that solarium. But the crew does chase them out usually.

As they should. I wouldn't want just anyone walking freely into a place where my children are without supervision.

I'm a teacher, and I will be utilizing the Solarium like nobody's business to get away from the kids, but I also understand that the sight of a child walking into that area will be common. Parents need a break, too, and I get that. Should the child need something from them, or are simply checking in with them, fine. However, splashing around in the pools and causing a scene? You'll see the teacher side of me come out REAL quick :D

Yes don't worry if your child needs to talk to you or get something from you they can enter the solarium and no one will stop them.

Now it sounds like if you are cruising with some of the people on this thread they will give you dirty looks but don't worry about it its their problem not yours.

Guess what kids cruise too and so do parents.

The Living Room is not an area that you can pass through to get to Johnny Rockets. There is hallway that goes from the arcade to the outside deck and the entrance to Johnny Rockets. Adults are not allowed in the Living Room and are immediately stopped at the door by one of the counselors.

Of course, no one would stop your child or any child from speaking to a parent in an adult only area... including the casino. What is not allowed is for the children to linger in that area... it sounds like you have a good grasp of the concept and anticipate respecting your fellow cruisers. Sometimes on these threads people see things only in black and white... but while on your cruise vacation it is a time to experience other colors... :) I hope you and your family enjoy your cruise and I hope you have hours of peaceful time to relax!!

We did, on the Freedom in 2008 and there were two doors and no counselors telling us to leave :)

What way did I behave? We WALKED THROUGH an area, didn't stay and hang out and good lord, I hope I never run into anyone as bitter as you on a cruise. What did I complain about? My husband is the one that is doing cannonballs in the solarium pool so put THAT in your pipe and smoke it Mr. or Mrs. Jumping to Conclusions about me and mine.

You might have passed through Fuel, but not the Living Room.

Could have been, it was 2008, we were on our way to Johnny Rockets, we went through SOME AREA with lots of teens, they hollered at us, we laughed and moved on. Not a big deal and not arguing semantics with anyone, it was simply a funny story and I was making the point that everyone deserves quiet time with folks of their OWN age :D

Oh and anyone who thinks that we are the fussy ones who get miffed if we get splashed is patently misinformed about us. We are the crazy flowriding, cannonball jumping, pool saddle bringing (in the Solarium pool) people. We could give two figs what other people do on their vacation. Also, we spend every weekend during the summer at the local water park on the Flowrider with, yep, LOTS OF KIDS.

Interesting. My experience has been different. 6 cruises on Disney Wonder & Magic and the adult-only pool areas and adult-only activities were kept kid-free and were wonderful. 4 of those cruises were adults only and I loved DCL where I could be around kids if/when I wanted to but could absolutely count on a nice space and activities were I could get away from them.

I'm on my first RC cruise in 1.5 weeks and hoped that the adult pool area would be kept kid-free, but it doesn't sound like it will if there are kids walking through and getting food. :(

I rarely see kids come into the Solarium to get food at the Park Cafe. There are big signs at both doors saying kids under 16 are not allowed in the Solarium. You shouldn't be bothered at all! Enjoy your cruise!

I'm glad you spoke up because I was going to ask why that guy/gal went off the rails in his rant. How in the world did he/she ever interpret your comment the way he/she did? Wow! ;)

If there is a Park Cafe or any food in the Solarium I have never seen a sign, big or otherwise, at the entrance to the Solarium. Some ships may have them but in 16 cruises I have never seen a sign at all four (or any) entrances to the Solarium to indicate it's adults only. You were fortunate on your ship you had one.

RIGHT? I had to go back and read my post several times to make sure that I did not word it inappropriately or misspeak, but no, I was just telling a funny story. Seriously, we all just guffawed when the kids were telling us to get out and yes, they DO deserve a place that is just for them :)

Oh well, flowriding on . . . :D

I'm so glad I have poor eyesight. All I have to do is choose to remove my glasses or lenses, and then I can't see anyone giving me looks of any description. It means I can dress for dinner how I want, book anything from an inside cabin to a suite, hog a sun lounger, let my kids run wild, book a table for two people only, and live in complete ignorance of other people's points of view :D

My daughter (14) very often found us in the solarium. Nightmare she was, bombing in, smearing ice cream on the walls, stealing all the towels. Kids nowadays.

Yes, we were in the Solarium a lot with my 15 month old on the Enchantment. We ate in the park Cafe for breakfasts and lunches because the food was better. The Cafe staff didn't mind and even brought over fruit for my son to keep him occupied before they brought over the meals.

My son is well behaved for the most part so nobody complained. I would never have put him in the pool (cant go in cruise ship pools anyway) or hung out in there with him.

I KNEW it was the living room, we were on our way to Johnny Rockets and we were looking in the different areas and the Living Room is right by JR :) Had to check the deck plans, knew I wasn't going crazy (yet :D )

On Cold Weather Routes (Baltimore on the Grandeur, Alaska on Rhapsody and Radiance for example) They do allow kids in in 2 hour blocks. (2 hours for kids and 2 hours for adults) etc

All venues in the solarium are open for families as well, and kids can come in and get stuff and do whatever, the main thing is they are not allowed in the pools/hot tubs.

Not at the outer doors but inside as you approach the pool itself yes. It is possible to hit the PC without going anywhere near the pool hottubs or loungers plus there is decor that 'hides' the area with the tables and chairs.

Walk by that area next time you are on that class of ship, you enter Johnny Rockets from the outside deck. There is a doorway to the right of Johnny Rockets entrance that takes you inside. The doorway to the Living Room is on the right as you come in from the outside deck and the Arcade is in front of you. You do not pass through the Living Room to go between the Arcade and the outside deck. If you were to go into the Living Room, the only other exit is a fire door, the Living Room is not an area you can walk through, just like the Adventure Ocean areas are not areas passengers can just pass through.
