What will Island Princess look like after May 2015?

No IC would be another big blunder. Really don't understand that one.

I was thinking the same thing.....:):):)

Bob

With so many changes that for many passengers are not improvements, maybe instead of The Love Boat it could be The Blunder Boat? :p

I think the Coral HC was done but not sure if it was planned for the Island or if it had been done.

It seems to have a completely different outcome for everything. :(

I was on the Coral in July 2013 and the HC was renovated and there was a small IC that replaced the Casino Bar & had a good size seating area which resulted in a smaller casino.

As I recall the Island's HC was scheduled to be renovated however there have been contradicting posts about whether there will be an IC.

So just curious where will Princess make more money? At the casino bar or if the casino now had a IC. Wonder if Princess felt they made a mistake with the IC on the Coral.

I'm sure that profit was their motivation however they also need to attract passengers with a great cruise experience. :)

Based on those deck plans they reduced the casino space for an additional 13 cabins but they do not show an IC...maybe it's another example of more cost-effective cabins at the expense of passenger enjoyment by not having an IC?

Maybe. You would have thought it was a perfect time to add one.

The differences in some cabin configurations are probably because once construction began there were some structural problems that necessitated that the original plans be changed. Hopefully Princess will post the revised deck plans soon.

At a discussion session with Richard Joseph on the Island back in October 2013 on our full transit this was discussed as was other things about the proposed changes to the Island. I had posted the information that I got from this discussion, but things have changed quite a bit from back then for sure!!! (I should look back at that post and see just how different things ended up being??? Plus I may have videoed some of that talk?) The main thing that I add here is that they felt that the IC in the casino area on the Coral was a mistake, and that they were going to do it in the area of the patisserie when they redid the Island. Back then they were planning for an IC, so I certainly hope that they did not 86 it in the final iterations of the redesign as I fell that would be a HUGE mistake. Like everyone else I am hoping that it will be there! We definitely missed the IC when we were on the Island for the 15 day Full Transit.

Please let there be an IC!!!!

Happy Cruising!

Mark

Thanks for that Mark. It makes more sense to me to have the IC in the Patisserie. It's obvious why they might want a bar in or near the casino. :)

It certainly looks like those cabins could have been made into balcony cabins. Those cabins will have light coming through the window but set back so far, it appears that the only view will be of sky or the far horizon.

As long as there is light coming through the window that is fine by me. This was my second choice as a lot of the obstructed cabins that I had picked based on the (obstructed picture) site where not available. I guess someone had snagged them already. So I figured. Give this room a go.

A couple of more images of Island Princess, these at a different angle and leading credence to the earlier observations that maybe the Lido Deck aft-facing suites (L722 and L721) do not wrap-around, whereas the side-facing Aloha Deck aft suites (A726 and A727) do, both contrary to what the deck plans show. I also brought forward the other images previously posted:

My gosh, that's more horrible than I ever imagined! And to think how much I loved her on my very first cruise to Alaska. No more.

That's the Blunder Princess.

The only bright spot in this trainwreck is the addition of more oceanview rooms. I had already noticed that cabin is priced very attractively, and since there's no huge tender hanging right outside, how bad can it be?! I do hope you'll take a photo of the view from there and share it with us. And send it to renmar for posting on his awesome website, https://sites.google.com/site/cabinviewbyrenmar/

WOW! Looks like not too many happy replies on the retrofit. We are booked in cabinE735 in October and it looks like that may be the only deck that hasn't been modified in the stern. Hopefully it still has the rear facing open deck! Also wondering about the modifications to the Horizon Court?

Certainly will, but I don't cruise until November 2016.

One of the tests that shipyards place a new-build through during its sea trials prior to the cruise line's acceptance of the vessel are 'vibration tests', where monitors and gauges are placed all over the ship on deck to record how the vibration of the hull, when underway and at various speeds, affects other spaces around the ship, and whether or not those vibrations are transmitted to an acceptable level.

On Island Princess, the construction of a brand new platform, or a 'new deck' over/between what used to be the Universe Lounge's lower and upper levels, would surely have to have gone through a similar type of test to see how hull vibrations affect the new ocean-view cabins aft on Fiesta Deck.

That would be my only concern.

And I'm sure during the twenty-four hours after she left the shipyard and was doing 'loops' out in the Adriatic Sea, those tests passed with flying colors.

;)

I remember very well the addition of an entire deck on the Norway.

We stayed in the aft junior suite type cabins. The creaking and noise was ridiculous when the ship was underway.

And they ruined the lines of the beautiful France when they added that deck.

Forgive me as I haven't read the whole of this thread, but I was checking dates for the Coral next year. Did you know that that she was getting the same refit changes from March 2016

There is nothing any of us can do to put our thoughts into the rebuild... but passenger comforts didn't drive any of what I've heard. One of the great things about sailing on the Island and Coral (five cruises) we NEVER felt like we were being herded from one area to the next. The hallways were always open... there was some waiting for the elevators but nothing unreasonable... and (believe it or not) we never had to stand in a line waiting to be seated in anytime dining or being served at the buffet... since Princess is said to have made no modifications to any of the dining areas... where are they going to seat and/or serve 240 more passengers.... I'm afraid I need to get use to waiting in lines or plan to eat very early and/or very late on our August cruise!!???

Not many folks are commenting on the removal of the smokestack (fake) turbines. That is definitely a plus, but what's left makes the stack look unfinished. Hopeful but doubtful the stack isn't 100% finished.

Personally I would think they have finished work in that area and what you see now is how it will be. It seems to be popular with some lines to show the hardware rather than box it all in and disguise it. I don't mind either way.

It's pretty much a done deal. Anything else added to the smokestack casing at this point would be purely aesthetic. ;)
