Balcony gurantee?

Just a few days from our cruise and there are still lots of people on our cruise (which has been sold out for months) still waiting cabin assignments. Any idea what happens if Princess assigns you a cabin and you really don't want it. For example it is entirely possible that our guarantee balcony upgrade could be to that mini suite that has a twin beds that cant be made into queen. I really would not want to go on my once a year vacation and have to sleep in separate beds. There is a suite that has been open numerous time I have looked- It looks wonderful but only has a window and no balcony. Again we really love our balcony and don't think I would trade that even for a suite that doesn't have one.

Getting nervous

PS I signed up for balcony guarantee because that was all that was available.

If the cruise is sold out then there is little chance for change once the cabin is assigned.

Probably should have picked out your cabin to avoid this issue.

Its the chance you take with a GTY. :(

You will get the cabin cat you picked at least.

Since you are in the 100% cancellation fee, you will have no real options if you are assigned an unacceptable cabin. If you cancel you will get back the port charges. If you have cancel for any reason coverage, you would get what that pays.

You may not get your cabin assignment until you are at the pier.

If you feel so particular about your cabin why did you take a gty?

We weren't sure we would be able to cruise this year so I was booked late-QTY was all that was available- and this date was the only thing that works with my schedule. Have never done qty before and WILL never do it again-guess I learned a valuable lesson here-

On our roll call one person did a mini guarantee and was just assigned a mini that has no tub and the beds have to stay single. And like I said-I booked qty balcony but I am guessing that the suite with no balcony would be something that could be assigned to us. Not exactly what you signed up for

You may not have realized it, but when you booked a guarantee, you agreed to take any cabin in the category you booked or any higher category.

Sounds like you're not a risk taker. And if that's the case, keep the cabin you booked, and avoid undo anxiety and excessive handwringing. :D

Enjoy your cruise.

Don't fret it, If you requested beds made up as queen, I doubt it will be a problem. Also very unlikely that a guaranty balcony will be upgraded to a window suite or mini suite. Usually you just get a better balcony location from the cheapest available.

Don't worry about it. We had a mini-suite guarantee and got assigned to one of those cabins.

It is not correct that the beds CAN'T be converted to a queen. Check out my pictures here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1959727

There is no way you will be assigned a window suite if you booked a balcony. That upgrade will go to someone in an oceanview.

Good luck and please do come back to let us know how u made out. I often do guarantees, and have never been displeased, but sometimes more pleased than other times.

Interesting about that window suite. Are these considered full suites? Just thinking aloud if I booked a minimum balcony guarantee and had the opportunity to have a cabin that was a suite, even if it had only windows, but with all of the suite perks and extra room, I would definitely consider it. But that is just me..

A Window Suite is a "full" suite. I have seen the occasional price of a window suite to be lower than the price for a mini.

Lets us assume that a worst case scenario happens and you get issued with a Mini-suite with fixed twins or that window suite (which has no balcony and I don't think is possible). This might seem an impossible situation to get out of to many. Under this hypothetical scenario which is almost never going to happen what should you do?

In my opinion, once on board check the situation with a cabin visit. Confirm cabin steward cannot sort out the beds. Get straight up to the service desk and ask "Can the hotel manager find out whether there are any passengers on board that it might want to swap my mini-suite (or window suite) for their balcony cabin? I seem to have somehow got a mini-suite but I so wanted a balcony cabin".

I am a gambler; unlike your goodself, and think they can switch you and that people in the queue behind you will start shouting "We'll have it!" causing a minor commotion before the hotel manager appears.

Guarantee cabin grades and types are good ways to book but in future as you realise they are perhaps not for you.

Good Luck.

John.

We're still waiting on our cabin assignment and we sail on Saturday. I am sure we will get it over the next few days! :) At least we know we'll be on the ship lol!

Yes, Princess seems to be taking longer to assign the guarantees. We booked our March 2015 cruise in Nov. of 2014, and got the cabin assignment last week, about 21 days out.

In our case, we took a $99.00 upsell from an inside to a balcony. Once Princess started doing the upsells, we didn't want to get stuck with the leftover insides that no one else wanted, lol.

On the previous cruise, we booked an inside cabin and five days before sailing, we got a free upgrade to an oceanview obstructed. You just never know.:D

Is a Window Suite something that is unique to Caribbean Princess? I don't remember hearing about them, and Caribbean is one of the Princess ships that I have not sailed on.

7 window suites, I think were added to the CB/Golden and a couple of other ships during extensive drydocks when they added the IC/Crown Grill/moved the casino etc.

Yes, the "Window Suites" are a bit of a hybrid cabin. A full suite but totally lacking a balcony. I am thinking these might be the choice where a cold climate was anticipated. Suite facilities and service but good view of sea from indoors as you know. I think this set up is likely unique to Princess.

While I'd miss having a balcony, the extra space of the window suite and the suite amenities would make up. Someone wrote that they'd never upgrade someone with a balcony guarantee to a window suite. I don't remember reading about anyone getting such an upgrade, but it's one of the possible outcomes when you book a balcony guarantee. Princess is guaranteeing that you'll be assigned to a cabin in your category or to any cabin in a higher category.

We've enjoyed the upgrades we've received by booking guarantee cabins. We sometimes, however, have received exactly what we booked. For instance, we were once assigned to one of the most-forward inside cabins on the Sun Princess. Someone who was prone to motion sickness would have hated that cabin location, as would anyone who wanted to be near an elevator.

Finally received our room today. Same category as requested-Its a wheel chair accessible room- but I understand that's a good thing as they are bigger

Oh WOW!! You will love it. Yes they are bigger and the balcony is double width, since the cabin is wider.

The bathroom is great. If you didn't look at the pix in post #11, check it out. That is what your bathroom will be like. No attacking shower curtain!

We recently did a 4 day coastal. We booked a very cheap inside on Lido and were somehow upgraded shortly before the cruise to a B2 balcony on Caribe! I didn't think that was possible but it happened to us. Not only did we get bumped up, the cabin was also a handicapped accessible cabin so it was about 1.5 times as wide as a regular balcony cabin. I base this on the fact that, when standing on our balcony, it looked to be covering about 1.5 of the balconies below us. I have no idea how why we were bumped up multiple categories.
