It's hard to explain how oppressive the heat is on that cruise. It will get better, especially after cabo. It gets darn right chilly. I know people love the thermal suite but that's the last place I'd want to be on a hot cruise. I realize I may be alone in that thought.

You are not alone on that thought.

No way would I want to use a hot tub or the thermal suite on those cruises.

I think my fellow Sailaway Gang members are bionic! That is the only explanation I have for how they are able to go-go -go and not crumble in the heat like me. The dinner last night sounded like it was amazing but all I could do is get DD and DS to Club Hal for Pirate Night and I headed to the cabin. DH went to a scotch tasting, checked on me getting the school supplies ready for today then headed to the sports bar. I was asleep when he brought DD and DS home.

The Today on Location says there is a Fiesta BBQ starting at 6 today followed by a Lido PoolParty. Dress is tropical. All aboard today is 5:30 so if the heat today is anything like yesterday (and it is supposed to be) I am not sure we will make it. The air conditioned dining room will have my name all over it! Our dining time is 5:45 so we may just have time to shower...

The spa is running a special today too: thermal suite and hydro pool pass for the remaining week until San Diego. Couples is $189, single is $99 valid from today to April 27.

We have done several of your repositioning cruises -- and they are hot and humid.

We never went to any of the BBQ's -- much rather be inside where it is cool.

Have tried to keep up with this thread as I've found it so informative and interesting (as well as the blog)...but I've lagged behind so will have to catch up after our cruise.

Boarding the Noordam today to follow you guys up to Vancouver. So glad you're all having such a wonderful time and hope the shower water issue is fixed for all.

Happy sailing!

DINNER WITH THE CAPTAIN

here are a couple of pics from our dinner with the captain.

As you can see, the silverware had HAL's logo embossed on it

and here is our wonderful host

and the dessert that I tried to take a picture of - the gold mesh created problems whether I took the pic with flash or not. The gold mesh was totally edible and delicious of course.

I hope you can make out the yummy chocolate inside the mesh.

The next night we received the signed menu from the Captain which I already posted. A very nice touch.

That dessert looks wonderful.

I am curious -- were all husbands and wives seated side by side? When we have done these dinners, DH would be on one side of the table and I was on the other side of the table.

If you can't wait for the food pictures they are up on my blog.

Love your Blog!!

Likes like you got more of the special china plates, etc. than we have gotten on the Westerdamm and other ships when we did this dinner.

Even though they were listed on the menu on the Zuiderdam, we didn't get any petit fours.

Corinto -- first time we were here was in 2009 -- on the Westerdam. Loved the way all the taxi drivers, ambulances, etc., gave us a tooting send off as we left.

No, we were seated with others, so across the table from each other, basically. It was very nice as we were able to get to know the other guests.

Just wanted to commiserate with you about the heat. I totally get it -- we are always shocked at how hot our hot-weather cruises are  And how humid :) We tried explaining to our dinner table companions on our last cruise -- they could not understand what we meant. They live where it is "cold", too, and the temps weren't stopping them from doing things ..... yeah Southern California. Uh-huh..... :D

(Today here it started out at -5C but the forecast is for +8C.....)

Same for us. With few exceptions, we were almost never seated spouse beside spouse at Captain, Hotel Manager's etc tables. I like that as it is a chance to chat with others and then DH and I would share our experience later with each other. :)

Glad you had such a good time at the Captain's dinner. We, too, love these dinners and agree that the food is very, very well done.

You are missing some really nice Vancouver weather: sunny with a cool breeze. Not as nice as where you are, though!!

hello silver to gold, I just had to tell you, all last week, every time I saw your name on this thread, It reminded me of a slot machine at fallsview casino in Niagara falls, so last night I went and I played them and won enough to pay for my room on my next cruise on the Maasdam in may :D:D:D- thk you--joanie

What is the cost of the Captains and Chef's dinners? If you don't mind sharing.

This Captain's dinner is by invitation. It is normally a round table of about 10 people who dine with the Captain. He always treats the table to several wines and it's a wonderful treat. :) They are usually very interesting men, with great stories and are wonderful hosts.

Two different events. The Captain's dinner is by invitation - 7 guests, an officer and the Captain who hosts the table. We had one extra woman at ours. All very interesting people. The Master Chef's dinner is a special menu with a charge.

Well, Joanie, I am delighted. Now, if that would work for ME, eh!!!

Hope you have a superior cruise. Are you planning to hit the casino on the Maasdam?!

Please consider coming back and telling us about your cruise!!
