icsys Posted April 17, 2015 #351 Share Posted April 17, 2015 Don't know if it's just me - but I find the drinks packages quite good value for money (compared to paying the per drink price). Bloody Mary for breakfast Glass of wine with lunch Three cocktails over an afternoon One or two pre dinner drinks Glass of wine with dinner Couple more cocktails in the nightclub That's 10 drinks right there, let's say they're $10 each that's $100 total VS the $55 for the Premium package. Done deal in my book. If you are a moderately heavy drinker and consume ten alcoholic drinks per day then no one would dispute that the premium drinks package is very good value for money. Even ten drinks at the old drinks prices would make the premium package worth it. It is the casual drinker that is losing out, which most probably accounts for the majority of posters that are upset. Two to three alcoholic drinks in the evening would have cost around $24 prior to March 1st, now those two to three drinks will cost $36 plus (dependent, it seems, which ship you are on)... that's a 50% increase overnight. This is what most of the posters are upset about.

We even realized that there is no reason to bring on board even two bottles of wine, unless we have something special happening on board and want a special wine that we anticipate won't be available. We have enough to drink at the DL and with the vouchers on our seapass for use during the 5-8 hours. The extra few bottles of beer we will consume, add little to the tab. Boogsson Posted April 17, 2015 #353 Share Posted April 17, 2015 I recently emailed customer service about my upcoming cruise on Navigator and asked for updated bar drink prices, since I had read about 40% increases. What's the point???:D:D:D May as well drink water and juice for free :) I bought a 1,000.00 watch on the last trip for 500.00, it will last a lot longer than 700.00 in wasted drinks :). You should take that email....not a copy of the email....but the email with you on the ship and go to a bar with it, and ask for the beer or mixed drink or Non alcoholic beverage that is at the bottom of the appropriate price choice. Don't ask for a specific drink because they will give you one that is higher in price, since all the listings have a price and the 'and up'. When they say, there is no beer offered for $4.25 (my example) just say - "How could that be your HOME OFFICE sent me this email with the prices and I am just interested in knowing what beer is offered and $4.25".....you probably will have some fun, if you have a good sense of humor. We all are wondering what YEAR that price list was from that they quoted to you.

Ocean Boy Posted April 17, 2015 #361 Share Posted April 17, 2015 If I drank that much on any day prior to dinner, I would be asleep through dinner and see nothing of the nightclub or any evening activities -- I would simply wake up for the next days breakfast....and that sleep might be done, on a chair in a public area -- I might not even be able to walk to my cabin. But that is just me, perhaps. Same here. I would never promote chair hogging but could you save the chair next to you for me?

Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted April 18, 2015 #375 Share Posted April 18, 2015 They have your money and tip (if you brought the package) now to make a profit the secret is not to give you a drink. It didn't work with us! :D Not that we spent our whole cruise in a state of inebriation, although we did drink more than on our first cruise, just because it was all included in the package. But that one wine with lunch became two - especially when the lunch service was slow. That one cocktail round the pool in the late afternoon also often became two. We rarely had time for more than one cocktail before dinner, unless we had one during the early show then another in the R bar. We were drinking premium wines in the MDR, usually $11-$14 a glass and our evening cocktails were usually variations on martinis ie not padded with soda or juices. I think we got our money's worth but the package cost blew our initial budget right out of the water and, given the additional "costs" from currency conversion to AUD, that means we will be less likely to choose RCI for future cruises. :(
