No insurance, can't go next Sunday.

My Boss's wife just went into the hospital today.

They are not able to go on their cruise this coming weekend.

They did not get cruise insurance.

What are the options?

Can they change the names on the cruise to someone else?

Tried searching, but did not find anything.

One persons name on the reservation must remain the same so they can't transfer it to anyone else.

 

I would suggest that they call Royal and explain their situation. Royal has made exceptions to their cancellation policy in the past and allowed guests facing hardship to rebook their cruise for a later date.

 

Nothing guaranteed but worth a call.

Have them call Royal Caribbean ASAP or their travel agent if they used one. In rare cases of a true medical hardship Royal sometimes makes exceptions to the rules and may work with them on a refund or change to a different cruise date.

I would say, YES, call, but I would also say that there is zero chance of a refund.

 

They MAY allow a transfer of the booking to another date.

We had a medical problem and sent RCL the Dr.s letter etc. and Resolutions were wonderful in moving our paid cruise to something else we picked.

This is an emergency and not just a random cancelation.

Resolutions did the same for us with a medical emergency. Just moved us to a different sailing and brought our discount, OBC and casino credit with us. Just call RCL.

Thanks to everyone here on Cruise Critic.

Especially to the Moderators, for without them this board would not be here.

I know he will try, this is his first cruise, and I talked him into it.

I do not know the particulars on his wife's condition.

I agree riploc, I bet he gets the insurance.

I just wanted to end this with a big Thank You. :D

Check, if charged to credit card, what their trip cancellation policies are. I forgoed insurance as I'm pretty covered by the card policy.

They will probably be out of luck...a name change might be possible, for a fee.

 

Not ever possible to change both names. One name must remain and there would be a change fee. But that is not the case here. It might cost more, but there's a good chance they could change to a later sailing. Don't really see a refund if they cancel completely.

I didn't think that there was a name change fee for Those booking under North American terms and conditions. (At least not one imposed by Royal. TA's may be entirely different). I know I have changed names around from one cabin to another after final and never been charged.

So if Royal would let you change your cruise after final payment (regardless of circumstances) -- Why would/should anyone buy insurance???

 

Uh.... Maybe for Medical Evacuation, trip delay, lost luggage, medical coverage, etc etc etc............:rolleyes:

Yep, just picking up one medical visit will cover the cost of insurance (personal experience). But, we digress.

 

OP, I think you've gotten great advice to pass along to your boss. Trip insurance is in the past.... boss can't fix that one. But, the call to RCL or the TA by a sympathetic boss might just solve their situation.

 

Hope you can report positive results.... and how much of a raise you got from the great advice. :eek:

Ken, a change fee only kicks in when you make the name change at the last minute. I forget at what date that occurs. Maybe 3 weeks? Can't remember! ACK!

I also agree with other posters who say they are stuck. The airline might give them a credit however.

 

My DH and I used to believe that the cruise insurance was a rip-off, however since we are now 60- we always take it! Hopefully we will be "wasting" our money and never have to use it!

 

If they are frequent cruisers and high tier members maybe the cruiseline will work with them and give them a credit.

 

Hope your friend feels better soon.

Or maybe for a TRIP CANCELLATION due to a medical emergency!!! RCCL should or should not cover any cancellation - by RCCL making exceptions (and not being consistent) - IT IS NOT SETTING A GOOD PRECIDENT.
