Safe - Magnetic Strip

I saw on the Glory specific forum that that ship is using cards with magnetic strips to open safe and CCL discourages using S&S card. Can someone comment on if any magnetic strip card will work? Can I bring for example one of the many loyalty Cards I have or something I wouldn't worry having with me?

why not just use your room card?

Pretty unlikely you will lose it. More unlikely that if found, the finder will figure out what room you are in. Even more unlikely that the finder is a thief and use it to enter your room and your safe! I guess it is possible...

Is that the reason not to use the card, or am I missing something?

I originally asked the question in the Glory forum... I think you got it right. So someone that finds or steals your card can't enter both room and safe. Good call. Thanks

I am confused by the thought that a replacement would not open it. If you lose the card you lock it with, no other card will open it anyway. Either way security is coming to your room, and I'd rather carry one card (well, two, because my wife's cards is always in my pocket).

You'll use the SS for room entry, bar transactions, restaurant purchases, casino activities ect. You are not going to have out the card that you used for the safe as often as your SS card. The chances of losing it or it becoming unusable are reduced.

The reason not to use your SS card is if you have to have it replaced due to loss or failure, the new one won't open your safe.

In that unlikely event it is very easy for the Carnival staff to unlock the safe for you so you can reset the code. I've never used the room key for that purpose. I assumed there was some other reason for not using it. I wish they would replace all the safes with the kind with a combination.

The latest technology will have safes that can be opened by either your smart phone or by passing your S&S in front of it and letting the computer chip that will be in your unique S&S card act as your key.

Sheraton hotels already have this technology, so I'm thinking Carnival may follow in about 20 years.

I sure hope I don't need my smartphone to open a safe - that's usually what's in my safe! :-|
