Escape vs Getaway - Crowding Comparison

The Escape looks very appealing. Would like to know from anyone who has sailed a 7-night Caribbean itinerary on both the Escape and the Getaway, if the relative sense of crowding on each is significantly different.

Many thanks for any observations and opinions.

Lgrpizza,

That is what I was about to say: they will be disembarking in just an hour or so. Our daughter sailed this past week. We have talked to her once, when they were in ST Thomas, all seemed to be going very well considering it was the first true 7 day cruise, but I will get more details from her tomorrow at a family bd party. The only crowded situation she mentioned was the usual pool area on sea days and the 2 hour wait at Margaritavile, again on sea days at lunch.

I really don't think there will be much, if any, difference in crowding.

There are extra cabins, but as a proportion it isn't a huge difference. On the other hand, the layout of the pool deck is better and there are additional indoor areas (district and food republic for example).

I really doubt there will be any noticeable difference.

Just got off and now sitting at MIA. Never had to wait for anything... Elevators, dining, loungers, shows. We pre booked everything we could. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze. Some things are not operational yet such as slides. Million Dollar Quartet cancelled after first or second show due to an illness. Lots of private venues which were annoying to some. The ship was rolling quite a bit more than normal even though no bad weather or high waves. Some glitches that should be ironed out in a few weeks.

Thanks. Which slides were not working? The free fall ones? How was the buffet and main dining room? Hope you had a great cruise!

I was on GA and just got off Escape. I didn't notice any crowding on either ship. Casino is bigger, pool area better. Many times I wondered where everyone was. They tried to play a game in the Atrium and needed 3 kids and couldn't even get one, and there were some kids aboard. The only place we noticed a difference was the elevators. They were always busy.

I got off the escape this morning.we were told The freefall slides were closed following an accident. A lady went down the slide but didn't come out of the other end. It was then said that another slider went down and hit her. They had to open the trapdoor to get them out. After that they were closed for the rest of the cruise

Everyone else has reported that they were never opened because they are still waiting on a part, which was also the reason they weren't opened on any of the previous sailings. They are still waiting on the needed parts. Your take resembles exactly the story told by a comedian on our TA cruise though.

One of the slides ( the right hand one) was working for part of the cruise, but closed after the women got stuck. It was not hearsay or rumour. I was stood there with my wife when they opened the hatch to let her out

This ship felt less crowded than the Breakaway. We even remarked on the empty chairs on the pool deck at 10 am on a sea day.

The main dining rooms & the buffet were the best on any of my cruises. There were always seats at the buffet and the only place we waited was Margaritaville. The location & the food make this extremely popular for lunch. They give beepers at the hostess station & they have a section to sit & have a drink while you wait.

District Brewhouse was our favorite venue. It was only crowded when a bunch of Bengals fans invaded during the Monday Night football game.

Loved the ship

Thanks for all the replies. I was concerned whether there would be enough extra public space to cope with the additional passengers. So far there doesn't seem to be too much negative feedback about crowding. Early days though...

We were on the 3-day last week which was sold out. So,,, with every room was filled, the ship did not feel crowded. Even with the challenge of every passenger trying to do a week's worth of entertainment, eating, and drinking in 3 days (i.e., there were half the number of shows for the 4500+ passengers to attend), most things worked well. Lots of loungers on deck, lots of space in the thermal suites (although the spa treatments were fully booked). Buffet was full, but you could always get a table at breakfast and lunch.

I wonder how you get stuck?

on our GA cruise, some one threw up so they closed that down for that...

Don't know how they got stuck but there is a trapdoor to let people out and we did see them getting people out

If you don't have enough speed/inertia to go past one of the loops that goes upward. Our DD got stuck her first time on BA. Seems to happen to people right around the low end of the weight limit (100#).
