OBC Use disallowed in Casino

I recently upgraded my cabin for a 1/30 Vision cruise. The new cruise documentation states the OBC may not be used in the casino. The original docs had no such restriction on the OBC. Has anyone run across this before or know of an explanation?

I've had documentation note it can not be used for casino charges or gratuities, and it was never a problem. Any posted charges go against the account. Currently, there is no way RCCL's system is sophisticated enough to distinguish between what is allowed and what is not for OBC use.

Remember if you do take any money out at the casino - there will be a 5% charge.

enjoy

Same here. We had no problems getting it at the casino paying the 5%

Was it purchased OBC or non-refundable OBC from RC?

I am guessing this only applies to non refundable OBC which is what you might receive from RCI or a travel agency when you book a cruise.

If I purchase OBC prior to my cruise for use on the ship, that is MY money and nobody can tell me how or where to spend it. :)

OBCs granted by the RCI are non-refundable. Most travel agency OBCs are refundable (at Guest Services [although they will balk on cash refunds prior to the last day], at the Casino [generally 5% fee] or theoretically to your credit card after the cruise). Some TA OBCs are merely pass throughs from RCI, and these are not refundable. Once OBCs post to your on-board account (this doesn't occur until a day or so into the cruise) Guest Services can tell you if they are refundable, or there should be a code associated with the OBC - if it ends in "R" it is refundable, if it ends in "N" it is not refundable.

This would seem to follow the reports that people were unable to simply get cash against their accounts from the casino tellers... Now it is in writing so no one can have a leg to stand on if they try to use the "but I didn't know" excuse. You've signed that you read and accepted the terms and conditions of the cruise - if it's there and you claim you never knew it, you clearly didn't read the T&Cs (not saying I do 100% either... but I do look at the things that I know pertain to me),

Are the codes you mention only viewed on guest services computers or will the stateroom account summary also have such codes?

I don't see how they can track that. If I get cash out of my account, it's coming out of my account. Are they not allowing you to get cash from your account anymore?

Yes you can still take cash out at the casino and pay the 5% unless you have a cash account set up. If so there is no fee. If you have refundable OBC left at the end of the cruise you can take it out at Guest Services on the last day with no fee or if not it will be credited back to the credit card you have on file.

I had $700 OBC, $300 from X, $200 from Travel agency, and I bought $200 from CC. Wife managed to spend a little over $400 on tours and stuff. The last night I cashed in $126 including 5% fee in the casino and they quickly credited about $180 back to my CC.

Maybe some cruise lines are different.

This is something new they are doing since all of these bogohoho bogus sales are giving tons of OBC for booking. I haven't sailed yet but the person I booked with at Royal was clear to tell me that the credit could not be used in the casino. I would assume they have a way to track it but I really don't know. Maybe someone who has sailed under the new rules can help?

I had no problem in getting cash 2 weeks ago on Oasis.

Others have reported that if they don't give can they give you a voucher that you can use to play the slots. Simply insert the voucher into a slot and then cash out. This will give you a pay voucher that you can take to the casino cashier and get cash.

The policy is non-refundable OBC is not useable in the Casino. However, as others have stated here their system has no way to differentiate between the two and you will be able to take it out in the casino with the usual surcharge with no problem. They give notice in the terms to simply discourage it because naturally, it is not ideal for them.

Last month we were on FOS....we had $500 OBC...$200 from booking on board and $300 from the "free" OBC for booking during a special sail (BOGO? maybe, I don't remember)...anyway..this is what happened. I did see where it said cannot be used in casino. We also had a cash account. The first night my husband got sick, Dr bill over $180. They applied OBC. Then of course, we had some of the usual expenses, a couple of drinks and some water. RCI used the OBC. We went to the casino and withdrew cash. OBC was used for ALL the casino charges AND we were NOT charged the 5% until the OBC was gone. Once we used up the OBC, we were then charged the 5%?!?!? We had only a very small cash balance on the final day. So RCI used all our OBC for all our charges, doctor and casino.
