RuthlessBoss Posted February 10, 2016 #476 Share Posted February 10, 2016 6 1/2 knots is very slow, slower than 1/3 of expected. Sounds like more propellsion damage than we are aware of. I hope all passengers and the ship are OK. Not necessarily problems, but why hurry just to sit floating outside the bridge because they can't get under it due to tides. I doubt they'd be able to keep the casino rolling in that case. I know I'd be in the casino as long as possible.
foxgoodrich Posted February 10, 2016 #477 Share Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) My family was on anthem of the seas, this past week. I think royal needs to be more aware of passengers safety and avoiding storms. I think the only way for royal to hear us, is if all disgruntled passengers, boycott RCL until changes are made, such as the captain being fired. And addressing and making new regulations on how to handle storms. Look i have heard from many of people on board that captain thought he could out run this storm, and storm blew up and they got caught. Many meteorologists have stated this storm was expected. We passenger sneed to demand better safety. It can't alway be big cooperations dictating there bottom line to us. Remember without us, they would have empty ships. I have been loyal to royal for over 15 yrs, but I don't want to see this happen again, new jersey is a new port and they should set up different regulations and more training for there captains. Encourage your family members to communicate their issues, feelings, and experiences on this cruise with RC. They will have an opportunity to express their views in a survey after the cruise. Those surveys are very definitely read and analyzed, by both Miami and the ship, and they do have an impact on company decisions. It's actually the consumer who dictates the bottom line to the corporation, after all. Fortunately you have choices as to where you spend your vacation dollars. If Royal Caribbean (or any company, for that matter) does not meet your expectations and standards for safety, you have the right NOT to buy the product they sell. You can start that boycott yourself. Judy Edited February 10, 2016 by foxgoodrich

Do let the rest of us who are still here let us know how you managed that. New port? Really...hunh...seems to me I've been sailing out of there for 10 years or so. Not all are disgruntled. Many, if not most seem to me understanding of the larger picture even if they are angry with their particular situation.

miopyk Posted February 10, 2016 #480 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Ok some funny things we have seen and heard over the last few days to lighten the mood. The day after the storm with glass and broken furniture everywhere on the pool deck, there were 2 women putting their towels and books out on sunloungers to reserve their places for later. 2 old ladies chatting in the bar asking the barman why the captain didn't lower the lifeboats during the storm as that would have been safer. A woman complaining to the man in the towel station about the pool being closed despite the fact that there was glass everywhere. 2 different old ladies agreeing with each other that if we hadn't have turned back we would have sunk for sure. 2 older guys complaining to a crew member about something (didn't hear what) and telling him that they were Americans and deserved better. They had the strongest east European accents I've ever heard. So there, despite everything we went through some people went back to normal very quickly. Alter Ego Posted February 10, 2016 #481 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Fellow posters - please ignore the troll. I have managed to do it - it's been beyond challenging. If you can't ignore, then please hit the red triangle. We might hit a record of complaints on this one. I am interested in what those onboard are experiencing- not what land based "experts" and reluctant cruisers have to say. Can you block people on cruise critic? Not sure if their format allows. kalliekae Posted February 10, 2016 #482 Share Posted February 10, 2016 There is nothing wrong with the captain. Everyone is safe including the ship. We just sailed with him. Did you bother to look at the storm on the radar? Have you been on other ships during storms? The storm grew in intensity faster than expected. Boycott all you want, saves more room for the rest of us. I wish there was a "Like" button for posts. People need to stop being Monday morning quarterbacks. No one is privy to the inner workings of the bridge on that particular sailing. Some people are acting as if the Captain purposely put everyone in danger which is ludicrous. If one doesn't want to sail with Royal in the future, then that's their prerogative. As far as we're concerned, this could have happened on any sailing in the Atlantic and probably has in the past. One assumes a modicum of risk when undertaking any trip. This experience will not affect our cruising in the future on Royal or any other line. TXCruzing Posted February 10, 2016 #483 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I've heard they're cancelling all future cruises because they're sick and tired of people complaining about stupid insignificant stuff that in the grand scheme of things are completely unimportant. Ha! Good one!

gaylemh Posted February 10, 2016 #486 Share Posted February 10, 2016 Isn't the wording on travel insurance such that the policy ends when you reach your "origination point" (if sooner than planned end date of trip)? I take that to mean those who traveled via air and have their flights covered by travel insurance are not yet at their origination point when they dock in NJ. Shouldn't they be covered until they are back at their home airport, or the date the trip was to end (whichever comes first)? I can see how those passengers who drove to the port have reached their origination point once the ship docks, and therefore their travel insurance coverage ends. Most, if not all expenses, should be covered under the trip interruption section of their insurance.

RuthlessBoss Posted February 10, 2016 #491 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I was wondering that myself Pilots should be readily available in a large port like NY/NJ. The dock space looks empty on Marine traffic and the webcam. The weather looks fine on the port webcam. So whats up? What's up? The tide is. Kind of like Tampa and the Sunshine bridge. The ships can't just slide in unless the tide's down.

Big_G Posted February 10, 2016 #495 Share Posted February 10, 2016 wow. really don't know what to think or say anymore. We were scheduled to dock in PC so not like they weren't prepared for us. With all due respect, you were also scheduled to dock this morning at 6:00 am and how did that workout? Maybe the logistics for debarking and visiting are completely different. Anyway, thanks for keeping us updated. Safe travels and hope to see you back on the boards with another booked cruise.
PensFan1028 Posted February 10, 2016 #496 Share Posted February 10, 2016 I really want to keep reading about progress the ship is making and such... but ***? really any and every thread that has "Anthem" in the title is infected. I'm beginning to think some people were hired by Carnival or maybe, I don't know, Sandal's resorts to hammer RCC publicly without restraint. I'm not even a fan of RCC and it irritates the hell out of me. How many posts need flagged or threads locked for a user to get any attention? Rare BecciBoo Posted February 10, 2016 #498 Share Posted February 10, 2016 One thing you have to remember is that this is nothing new. Almost every year on cc during hurricane season these threads crop up. There are many many seasoned cruisers on cc and many of us have been through storms like this, more than once. I just looked up our paper work from our rhapsody cruise back in 99 where the captain started telling us a day and a half before the storm that we would be sailing right smack into it, could not be avoided. Much smaller ship and we had 35' waves and lots of cosmetic damage. No one complained that I remember and no one got OBC or the cruise fare back or future cruise. A day later most all was cleaned up and you could not even tell she went through a storm. She got back Vancouver, loaded new passengers, and proceeded on a 14 day to Hawaii It will happen again, in fact, try next hurricane season Another thing, cruising past cape Hatteras in winter can be a gamble, my parents were world travelers for many many years and the only place they would not take a cruise was one going by the graveyard. They tried it twice. Will rci lose some cruisers over this, you bet ya, but no affect on the cruise line what so ever Some leave because of meatloaf or concrete beds Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
