I know this was discussed years ago but I can't find anything on it.....

I am flying overseas in less than 30 days now:D.....do any of you know

what to take before a long flight to help keep the ears open (as to opposed

to them being clogged up)....I want to say some type of sinus meds?

And I don't have any sinus issues.....but is this supposed to work?

I am flying from Jax to Newark then direct on to Amsterdam.

And my other question......I have been looking for a jean jacket......

any suggestions?....I have been on a search:eek:.....I want pockets and

don't want something that is "CROPPED".....some of them seem to be made

for a size 2 only:rolleyes:.......I am not little.......more like a 16/18,

depending on the cut..

Thanks for any help:)

I take Sudafed decongestant before the flight, and throughout....I use the 4 hour formula, rather than the 12 hour..seems to work best for me. I have HORRIBLE ear issues when flying..not just "clogging up", but intense pain...and this works!! It's now kept BEHIND the pharmacy counter...no prescripition needed, but you do have to show ID to get it. Not a big deal!

Sorry..can't help with the jacket...but try the Sudafed!

My husband has used nasonex for years...prior to him finding about that he would be in agony for 24-48 hours after we flew...got to the point where he refused to fly anywhere until a friend suggested it. It's a nasal spray that he uses about 30 minutes prior to takeoff and again 4 hours later. It was a prescription only med the last time we got it but worth the dr visit just so we can travel!

They have ear plugs called ear planes that you wear . They equalize the pressure in your ears so no discomfort or clogged ears .My jean jacket is from Talbot's . They have it in various colors . It has pockets .It comes to the bottom of my hips .

I second Ear Planes. DD has horrible ear issues and uses them when flying to Rome.

Find them in the Ear section. Our local Walmart and CVS have them. Never found them at Target. There are Adult and Kid sizes. DD uses the kid ones.

No help on the ear issues. I just use the diver's method - mouth closed (usually around the mouthpiece), pinch nose and GENTLY blow. I also use the yawn…

For the denim jacket - look at Garnet Hill. They have the classic denim jacket. One dark wash, the other a light wash with a nice white embroidery along the back top.

Hi girls, thanks for all the replies.....Sudafed.......that is the one. I will

also go to CVS and will look at the Ear Planes. Never heard of that before.

As for Old Navy,.....I was in there the other day and maybe it is just the

store near me but I was not impressed with it at all. I thought they

would have alot of different choices.....nope. And the ones they do offer

were not for me. And the actual store? A mess:eek:

I will try Talbot's and will google Garnet Hill.

Thanks again:)

Lois - Look for Macy's online, they have denim jackets for sale now and you get extra 25% off from the sale price.

Thanks....I will check them out.:)

Sudafed here too. My first flight in 8th grade was a class trip to Washington DC. It took hours for my ears to open. I tried the blowing, yawning and had chewed gum toward the end of the flight and landing, still the pain. Very happy to discover Sudafed. Oh, if you have high blood pressure do talk to your doctor about it first.

No ideas on the jacket other than Chico's tend to cut theirs too short.

I want to thank all of you for the suggestions:) I am going to look in person

for a jean jacket tomorrow but I did see Macy's has one I really like too.

So if I don't something around here I will probably order the one from

Macy's.

And I will also look at the ear stuff.

Sharon, I don't have a husband so sharing a man's jacket is not an option;)

but I am glad it works for you.

Check the weather report in Germany before you commit to a jeans jacket. Right now, it is cold, barely above freezing. I hope for you that it will warm up enough for a sweater, jeans jacket and a pashmina.

Hi, oh, this is not the only jacket I am bringing:)....I have another one

that is warmer and rain resistant too. I want the jean jacket as an

extra one is all.

And I am not going to Germany. I will check the weather in Amsterdam

though:D

Hi girls.....I found a jean jacket at Kohl's and I REALLY HAPPY with it:D

It was on sale and is not so cropped. It is one of Kohl's brands,

"CROFT and BARROW" and it fits me really well and is very soft:)

I also went to CVS and got that behind the counter Sudefed although it is

the CVS brand. The Pharmacist said it is the same medicine and so I will

try them.

Sprint, yes, most times everyone is very helpful on here.:)

Pseudoephedrine is the active ingredient that requires ID to purchase in the US (though not a prescription - it's sold in limited amounts from behind the pharmacy counter because it's used in making meth) Anyway - it gets me through allergy season, so I always stock up when I'm at walmart - I buy the limit (2 packages of 48 pills:p) And I've been buying the generic for YEARS, no issues and quite a bit cheaper.....

FYI, we were also able to find pseudoephedrine in France at the pharmacies. Didn't check Germany or England because we were healthy in those places:rolleyes:

So that is why they asked to see my ID?....I guess I could have asked

the Pharmacist why but I just showed him my driver's licence and it was

all good.:)
