Gig103 Posted March 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 18, 2016 My first RCCL cruise is upcoming and I have $500 OBC from my big box store TA. I was going to use it when I board for a drink package but via the cruise planner I can buy one for 20% off. I don't mind fronting the cash for that discount, but I can't imagine spending $325 (after grats) on anything on board that isn't beverage related. Do I need to call my TA about this? Or will any money from them definitely be refundable if I don't spend it all?

rucruisn2 Posted March 18, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 18, 2016 In my experience, the TA OBC has always been refundable.
Clarea Posted March 18, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 18, 2016 Worst case, you can take cash out at the casino and get 95% of your OBC back.
zuggie Posted March 18, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 18, 2016 Unless your cruise is a long expensive one, $500. OBC just from the TA sounds like an overly large amount. It could be that the $500. is a combination of TA OBC and OBC given by Royal Caribbean. Cruise line OBC is not refundable. If this is the case, your TA should be able break this figure down for you. BND Posted March 18, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2016 (edited) If your TA actually gave you all of the OBC, then yes, it's refundable because the way they do that is give up part or all of their commission and credit your account. Anything RCI gives you is not. My guess is also if it is combined from both, RCI will consider anything left over part of what they gave you, not what your TA did. Big_G Posted March 18, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 18, 2016 I would never see a refund on a $500 OBC. Not even a penny.:D
SthrnCruiser Posted March 18, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 18, 2016 I would love a $500 OBC. With there being 4 of us, we could go through that fast. Especially for excursions and drinks.

Easy to be that with 4 people Edited March 18, 2016 by SeaUs
molly361 Posted March 18, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 18, 2016 Better safe than sorry. I would do like Bob suggests and take any excess OBC out at the casino and pay the 5% You can ask at Guest Services if it is refundable or some ships that list your charges on the TV shows whether the OBC's are refundable

But you would be surprised as how easy you can spend the money on board. Excursions, pictures, specialty restaurants, souvenirs... It can add up
hapster85 Posted March 18, 2016 #13 Share Posted March 18, 2016 No excursions? Or did you already book them? Certainly wouldn't take long to spend the difference that way.

Worst case, you can take cash out at the casino and get 95% of your OBC back. Excellent point; the 20% drink discount is still more than the 5% casino fee Unless your cruise is a long expensive one, $500. OBC just from the TA sounds like an overly large amount. We booked a CL Suite, we actually have $600 OBC ($100 RCCL, $500 TA). :D No excursions? Or did you already book them? Certainly wouldn't take long to spend the difference that way. DIY excursions on this one. :)
ExilePA Posted March 24, 2016 #15 Share Posted March 24, 2016 So, if I'm understanding this right, OBC from RC can be cashed out at the casino minus the 5%?
