Can you cash a personal check at the Purser's desk?

Yes...but it's generally 1 personal check PER CRUISE for no more than $200....

Better to bring the cash you think you'll need. There is a safe in your cabin to store your money and valuables.

I thought it was $200 per day?

Check Cashing

Guests may use their personal checks on board to acquire a cash advance. Global Cash Access (GCA) provides this service by debiting the guest's checking account, using the account number on the check. The guest must have available monies in the checking account that the check is drawn on.

Important Note: Just like debit cards, the monies are immediately debited from the guest's checking account.

  • For this service, GCA charges 5.5% of the value of the cash advance requested or a flat fee of $5.50 if the amount requested is $100 or less.
  • Since the guest's checking account is debited (same as if using a debit card), the personal check is returned to the guest.
  • Both the Guest Services Desk and the Casino offer this service.
  • Limits are determined by the available monies currently available in the guest's checking account.
  • We do not accept Cashier's Checks, Bank Checks nor Money Orders.

holy crap, 5.5% or $5.50, wow. Why would you need to write a check? If you have a checking account, you probably have a debit card. The ships ATM's are also fairly pricey. You can get cash from a bank ATM on shore for less.

I have written less than 5 checks in 10 years, and that's because the development didn't take visa.

Who still uses checks, other than my annual 5 dollar birthday gift from my parents

Maybe they don't have a debit card, my parents don't. And maybe they're getting their paycheck via automatic deposit while they're gone and want to draw on that.

What do they do in everyday life when they want a loaf of bread? Do they write a check? Maybe it's time to get a card. My checks are automatic deposits too.

What? why or when would you pay 3% to use a credit? Only a few CC's still have foreign transaction fees, but most don't like Capital One which gives you 2% rewards.

Most people for a loaf of bread will just use cash. Not all stores allow debit cards either, especially Mom & Pop stores.

There are a lot of stores that are now charging extra for you to use a credit card. The credit card companies charge the stores so the stores pass it on to the customer.

Not only that, they wait until the entire order is rung up and THEN they take out the checkbook and start writing

When we pay for our car tags each year, or our drivers license, or pay our property taxes, or federal income taxes and state income taxes, you will have to pay a fee to use your credit card or debit card. The government does not pick up that fee like merchants do. So it is cash or check for us for those items.
