On Board Summit - Some Observations

Smoking - No smoking at Sunset Bar - used to be able to smoke on the Port side only, but no smoking at all -- Yippee!!

Select Dining - as reported before, moved to Deck 4. Traditional dining now on Deck 5

First time in Blu on the M-Class. Service slow. Couldn't find waiter or assistant to get water, steak knifes, etc. They seemed to have disappeared, even as Blu cleared out - We were seated at 8pm. By 8:30 it was 1/2 empty. Maybe first night glitches. Food was excellent!!!

Bistro on Five - Empty whenever I walked by.

Capt Kate - great. Dry but wonderful sense of humor.

Only downside, expecting bad weather in Bermuda. Arriving Tuesday night to avoid high winds anticipated for Wednesday morning.

Sunset Bar - Bartenders great, service great - friendly with great senses of humor.

No Captain's Table in the MDR. Must have moved that venue to Tuscan Grill as we were invited to have dinner with the Hotel Director tonight, meeting in Cellar Masters.

Excelerate - signed up for the unlimited package. $129.35 with the Elite Plus discount. System keeps booting me off in the stateroom. Works great on my iPhone.

We're sailing with my two sisters in a cabin next door. When we got on board I upgraded to the Premium Beverage package - wife stayed with Classic as that offers her what she drinks. When the bartender looked at the seapasses of my two sisters, he told them they didn't have to upgrade, as their seapasses showed they already had the Premium package. They were suppose to have the Classic package just like us, but there must have been a glitch in the system - Premium package printed on their seapasses. It was a good thing for them except THEY DON'T DRINK other than an occasional beer or glass of wine.

Last Nov our first night in Blu was also our first time, and also made us think booking Aqua was a mistake. The next night was above an beyond, almost reminded us of our first time on X in 1994. Sounds like the first night 'opps' are almost the norm! :D

Hope for clearing and calmer weather for the rest of the sailing!

Was the unlimited internet $129 for one device or two? It was only $98 in April for one.

Wino-0.I'm happy to hear you guys are are doing real good so far.go glitches. Did the ship happen to "hang a left" for a Statue close up when you set sail? We can't wait to see Dewa and the gang at the Sunset Bar. Hope your weather improves and the rest of your cruise is great. We are going when you return. It will be good to hear any future comments. Smooth sailing to you.

So happy to see you posting!!! LOL about your sisters and their drink package. We plan to upgrade to Premium. Glad to hear AQ food is excellent. Hopefully, service will improve. We will be in our first AQ cabin end of July to Bermuda. I hope the weather is better than expected. Thank you so much for checking in! ETA: SCORE on your invite to the Hotel Director's table in the Cellar Masters. I am envious. ENJOY.

AGree wine-o on Blu, excellent Filet Mignon first night, banana blueberry crepe was excellent. We had good service but we were there around 5:30, very few people in the restaurant.

Dewa and Nataljia are the best. We gave them name tags - Handsome and Beautiful. :)

Didn't go by the Statue. We normally would have, but there was a front coming in and the Captain wanted to get out of "Dodge" as soon as possible and goosed it up to 22 kts. Saw some nice lightning weather while eating dinner. Just a little rocking and rolling, but not really bad at all. If you have an instagram acct, Capt posted some pictures.

So happy to hear about the Sunset Bar being totally smoke-free! We'll be back on the Summit in April and I hope Dewa will still be there. He is the evil twin (both looks and personality) of a doctor I work for or vice versa. :D :D :D

We will be on Summit in April also! We are on the 4/15 cruise with our best friends. Their first time to the Southern Caribbean. We are celebrating us 2 girls 60th birthdays!!! She turns 60 in Oct and I turn 60 in Dec, both this year. I think her and her husband will fall as much in love with our 5 favorite islands as we are!!! This is the same itin we took on our very first cruise in 1994. and they are as much beach people as we are so I know they are going to love it.

Apparently they have raised the price onboard. If you buy in advance it is $140 and onboard it is $199. So if you have an Elite or Elite Plus discount you really don't have a discount. Better to use your 200 or 90 minutes and not buy the unlimited package.

A few other updates from the prior sailing--

People had noticed that the list of Concierge Class amenities on the website no longer listed "expanded breakfast room service menu." I can report that the list IN the stateroom still included that amenity and that the paper menus provided still had omelettes (which is the item I remembered being available only on the "expanded" menu).

I'll also add that it makes sense to ask at the bar for your preferred beverage even if you think it's not on your package, just to verify. Despite the fact that all the printed package descriptions place Jameson on the Premium list (last year it was on Classic), my husband was served it without charge. He didn't even ask for the first three days, as he debated whether or not to upgrade. Then he ordered it and was served it with his Classic package. So, ask before you assume you've got to upgrade.

In the casino, I had non-refundable OBC loaded onto my seapass as slot credit and was not charged a 5% service charge.

Concierge Class passengers were invited to watch sailaway from Bermuda on the helipad (but it was cancelled due to inclement weather last sailing).

Hi Wine-O,

Can you please try to find out if Capt. Kate McCue and Cruise Director John Grantham expect to be on the Sept 18 New England/Canada sailing.

I was on the Century with John from San Diego to Vancouver 4 years ago and I thought he was the best CD,

very often saw him around the ship and in ports. I enjoyed his talk about his days working in Hollywood.

Thanks,

Mark

Just a minor correction, not all Concierge Class passengers were invited to watch sailaway - we're in a C1 and did not receive an invitation. However, we love our covered balcony at the aft. We really like the Summit.

Is Jason (Activities) still on board. He runs the best trivia program

Lucy, I did not see him last week. But we don't go to trivia. All we saw were the cruise director, John Grantham and activities Manager, Oz. John is leaving after next week's cruise on June 19, he said he has one more contract after that and has put in for a transfer to another ship. But they don't really know until they have been assigned where they will be going.

As for Xcelerate it sucks. We barely could connect in our stateroom and when we did it was so slow and would hang up constantly. I am so happy we did not buy a package. If I can't get good internet in my stateroom what is the point? I don't want to have to go out to a public lounge/area to connect as I like to go on first thing in the morning when I wake up and then again at night before going to sleep.

Other than that service and food were great. Captain's Club Hostess Angie is the best.

Captain Kate goes on vacation on June 26th.

Just a quick observation on embarkation day. The cabins opened around 1 but we did not hear the announcement. Don't wait for the cabins to open in the Solarium, they don't broadcast the announcements in there.

The new Xcellerate works very well in the ilounge, did not try it with any devices.

Unlike others, I don't care one bit who is the Captain.

OTOH, the bartenders are another story. We will be sailing on the Summit June 26, so, if you could, let me know if they will still be there. We have an aft cabin, so, expect to spend quite some time at their bar.

Also, appreciate your reporting, as it helps in our planning.

New production shows on Celebrity S-class ships are being heavily criticized. Just wondered if the new shows with names like Topper and Chandelier have made it to Summit yet. Thanks for answering if you have a minute.

My wife and I will be boarding on Sunday as you are disembarking, so we are wishing you a safe and smooth cruise and pretty weather in Bermuda! Happy Cruising! Bob and Linda

The planner that was posted from early May has iHollywood, Sirens, iMagic, and Stars in their Eyes as the production shows on Summit.

We are also boarding Sunday.
