Also, forgot to ask, which bars allow smoking?

I can answer this one ....NONE ....smoking is not permitted inside at all, not even on your balcony if you have one. There are a couple of designated places for smoking and I am sure they will be pointed out to to you

There is a pool bar (one side only) that allows smoking. ;)

In the past, you were allowed to smoke on the starboard side at the Sunset Bar area (aft). On some of the ships, Celebrity has discontinued that practice. Or so I've read. We are not smokers.

Also, you can smoke on the pool deck. One half of the deck is for smokers and the other for non smokers- you have the pool bar also on that deck. I haven't been on the summit for two years and perhaps that has also changed.

I do not trust it! We have gone to Bayonne and the Bayonne bridge was supposed to be open on Sunday's-but we have gone to the bridge only to turn around and go another way. If you are coming from NY, you should either go through Manhattan or via the Turnpike.

We also use Waze application on our iphones. I "assume" it is also available on android phones.

Do you happen to know when the Bayonne Bridge will reopen? We are on the Summit starting 8/28.

Don't go anywhere near the Bayonne Bridge. It's been open/closed at various times over the past 2 years. If you are traveling from the South on the NJ Turnpike, your GPS may route you to take Exit 13 which will take you over the Goethals Bridge, Rt 278. From there your only way to get to Bayonne is over the Bayonne Bridge. Avoid that area as you never know when the bridge will be open/closed.

Take Exit 14A, which will go nowhere near the Bayonne Bridge. Exit 14A will take you over the Newark Bay Bridge, then follow the signs to the Cruise Port Terminal.

All the Celebrity/RCL directions to the Cruise Port all mention to take Exit 14A off the NJ Turnpike. We've been going that way for years.

To the OP -- tell your DH that sometimes one has to look at your route on Google Maps ahead of time, so when the GPS routes you to a different route, you can override it by taking the route you desire. GPS's are great devices, but sometimes it doesn't know that the most direct route may be an ill-advised way to go. For example, from NJ if I want to go to New England, the GPS will direct me over the GW Bridge. I always override it by taking the Garden State to the Tappan Zee.

That used to be the case. There is no smoking at the Sunset Bar, period!!!

We'll also be on Summit in August. Our first time on Celebrity and I'm curious how it'll compare.

Is there much live music and if so, how is it?

If you ever figure out the picture issue, can you post something with the drink menu? We're debating between packages, but it's hard to tell if you don't know what the price of mixed/frozen drinks are.

There's live music everywhere, and it's quite good. I think there are 5 resident acts this summer--a piano guy (70s pop stuff mostly), an acoustic guitar guy, a duo who lean a little country (beautiful voices), a Latin combo and a rock/pop combo, both with great vocalists.

As to the drinks packages, I suggest waiting until you are on board to see what meets your needs.

It has changed. On Summit, the only smoking area now on the pool deck is at the port side of the Pool Bar. The other smoking areas on the ship are the port side of the Mast bar on deck 11, and on the outside deck area on deck 4 midship port side. The smoking area at the Mast Bar is also the only area Cigars can be smoked. Smoking is not permited anywhere else.

Last month on the Silhouette, at the Sunset Bar, there were people smoking during sailaway. And then later in the week we saw smokers while we were there.

The topic of this thread is Summit, not Silhouette. There's always been smoking on the S-Class ships on the port side of the Sunset Bar.

Thanks for the warning, not a fan of smoke and especially cigar smoke.

We moved our cabin on deck 11 from port side to starboard on our October sailing just in case.

I was not the person driving to the port; DH was, and always does the driving. Also he works in a job where he has a six state territory that he travels by car so he is not a novice. We have gone to the Cape Liberty to get on cruises several times. We do take the PA turnpike, and we DO get off on exit 14A, and it takes us directly to the Bayonne Bridge which is 5 minutes from the port. Whatever route we happen to take is our business anyway. I'm a little bit hurt that people are trying to make me and DH feel stupid about just trying to give a little bit of help to someone who might be driving to the port, by letting them know the Bayonne Bridge is closed. :( This was not meant to be a discussion about how to get to Cape Liberty from the area where I live. :( I was merely pointing out that the bridge is closed, for anyone who might be thinking of getting to the port from that route.

The live music onboard has been fantastic. All of the musicians, from the lounges to the shows have been top notch.

Nice to read that the music has been great. I'm doing my first Celebrity cruise next year and definitely hoping for good music.:):):)

No Caribbean/Reggae music by the pool?? What do they play up there?

I'd read on one of the CC posts that smoking was allowed on the port side on decks 4 and 10 and at the Sunset and Mast bars (port side). However, the post was from quite a while ago and I know things change frequently, so I was looking for more up to date info. I know it's verboten anywhere inside and on balconies.

On a different note, I've seen reference to the Mast Grill. Is that what's labeled as the Pool Grill on deck 10 in the deck plans online?

If you are on Summit, no need to switch from port to starboard side as there is no longer smoking below at the Oceanview/Sunset bar on Deck 10.

The Mast Bar is on Deck 11. The outside deck above the pool deck. The Pool Bar is on Deck 10. The pool bar and pool grill are different places.

As far as the music by the pool, it was country ish.

You're confusing the M-Class with the S-Class. Mast Grill on S-Class, and Pool Grill on M-Class. Since this thread is about Summit, an M-Class ship, smoking only on Deck 4, port side, Pool Deck, port side, and Mast Bar, port side. That's it.

Exit 14A does NOT take you to the Bayonne Bridge. It is the Newark Bay Bridge. The Bayonne Bridge is between staten island and bayonne

If you take 14A you do NOT leave NJ! Trust me I have done the trip close to 50 times between cruising, ship tours and being megr's taxi service.

There IS a crapload of construction at 14A though...but you are not taking the Bayonne Bridge unless you take the Goethals to SI and then the Bayonne back to NJ...which is just giving more cash to NJ and NY.

After the dry dock, the cushioned sofas and chairs on Deck 10 were moved away from the center elevators and ping pong table and moved directly across from the bar. This is the only designated smoking area on Deck 10.

Uggggggg we Love ping pong and our last celebrity cruise might as well have been smoking when we played ping pong!

Thanks for all your tips on avoiding the Bayonne Bridge. Two GPS's (maps on my iPhone, and DH's Garmin) sent us that route every time we have driven to this port. The only reason we ended up taking the Goethals Bridge this time, was because we ended up turned around and far out of our way, when the detour signs got us confused. And yes we ended up using Waze, and will always use that going forward. Hopefully next trip here will be easier, thanks to everyone's suggestions. :)

Anyway, the live music on this ship has been fantastic. The piano player/singer is the best we've ever heard on any sailing. And, there is a string duo, two women who play cello and violin, and they are incredible. The music is so beautiful and tranquil, and it is not so loud that you can't hear each other talk. Those two women are extremely talented. There is a female singer in one of the lounges and she is very good also. Highly trained professionals on this ship; not an amateur among them. Celebrity tends to have high quality talent on its ships in our experience. Much better than RCI as we've seen it.

We don't smoke but we have noticed that smoking is almost nil on this ship. In the past people could smoke on their balconies, I forget if it was port or starboard as recently as a couple of years ago, and we always ended up with smokers on either sides, and one time with a neighbor who smoked cigars out there every day. We never complained though as it was their right to smoke on their balconies at that time. As far as we can tell, smoking is only allowed on Summit in very limited areas outside on deck now. There is no indoor smoking including in the casino. Last year we were on Grandeur of the Seas (RCI) and just walking through the casino to get to the other end of the ship nearly required a gas mask due to the heavy smoke in there.

We noticed a lot of passengers lighting up as soon as they got off Summit in Bermuda. Also people were smoking at Horseshoe Bay, so I guess that's allowed, though a lot of US beaches no longer permit smoking.

Our cabin steward has been fantastic. He learned the first morning that we like to sleep in, and never bothered us after that. Even though we left the room in late morning, he had our room ready for us as soon as we got back from lunch. We asked for ice the first day and gave him a small cash tip, and he has provided us with fresh ice in the bucket twice daily ever since. :)

Even though our balcony does not have a lounger, I found a way to push the two chairs together, recline them, and make a lounger of my own, which worked perfectly. DH does not sunbathe, so he napped in the AC while I worked on my tan.

There is a brand new store which just had its grand opening in Kings Wharf. It is a branch of Diamonds International. It is just next to the little mall there. It is a LARGE store. We didn't buy anything there but it was very well staffed and had many beautiful (and presumably very expensive) pieces there. Hubby bought me a Pandora bracelet and five charms at the Crisson shop in the mall at Kings Wharf, and the young female clerk there could not have been more helpful, patient and pleasant. :) It was a lovely experience buying at that store. (Anniversary gift; next weekend is our wedding anniversary).

Today the sea is a bit choppy. It's cloudy and spitting rain with a very brisk wind. I like the motion but DH has taken to the bed. I'm going to go to the Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Living on a Ship talk at 11 a.m., hosted by the Cruise Director Eddy, and a few other employees.

Packing up later this afternoon; how time flies! :( Already thinking of which cruise to take next.
