Woo Hoo - Am I the 1000th post ? Do I get a prize ? :D

I have waited 24 hours to post as I have now read all 50 pages now.

For what its worth -

I am a first time cruiser- encouraged ,my sister in law's family to go with NCL although they wanted to go with another line ( they have cruised twice before)

We got the UDP- free- yay- what ? Ultimate and no WATER and COFFEE ?? that is ridiculous . what is ULTIMATE about that ? Some of my adult family do not drink alcohol and are diabetic and on caffeine free , low sodium, diets .

I spent so much time researching .. I am appalled at the high cost of bottled water . I have no problem buying it however the cost is outrageous .

I have emailed Stewart ,Ewart, Mulgberger and Kansley.

used Twitter and FB .

Nothing . one out of office reply.

I was looking forward to this new love affair with cruises and NCL.. i think not .

So wrong to change the terms after we have booked and paid in full.

Such bad customer care ....

I deeply disagree with this policy but don't let it spoil your first cruise .

I'm sure you will still have a great time Bon Voyage ! :)

Gotta wonder if the folks at NCL aren't sitting there saying "Gee, nobody..not one single person...cared one bit what we charged for water last week. If the price was really so outrageous, why weren't they complaining before?"

Truly, it has to lessen the impact when people will only complain once it affects them personally.

For further comparison, on Princess, when pre-ordered:

$6.90 for 12 (500 ml) bottles (or 57 cents each, "service charge included")

In all fairness, the bottles are half the size so they should be compared to the six pack, not the 12 pack on NCL. I ordered on princess for next week even though I could save a few $ by bringing on-- but for three dollars or so, it certainly isn't worth it. On NCL, I am more likely to now bring EMPTY bottles and fill them up when I board.

Interesting observation as the thread reaches 1,000 replies...

We all know that Cruise Critic Members represent a very small fraction of the cruising public....1,410,419 members at this time. Out of those 1.4m members, only 24,390 have cared enough to post anything on the forums. And of those 24,390 people who care enough to post, only 285 were moved to post on this thread.

285.

If we were all on the Escape right now, we would only represent 7% of the folks onboard. Really...a small minority of people complaining...yet, because we are on the same forum, we get the Internet provided illusion that "everyone" feels the same way we do.

285.

At this very moment there are probably 36,000+ guests actually onboard NCL ships.

NCL has to care about all of their shareholders...all of their guests...somehow I don't think a policy change that only irks 285 people is going to be the huge concern that we think it is. Too bad we weren't complaining about the "outrageous" price of water before this....:(

Hi. Just a quick couple of questions. Can you get a glass of water from a bar or to drink on deck under the UBP? Is soda or sparking water available on the UBP? Also, how much is water and soft drinks from the mini bar? This is my first time with NCL, but I've often just drank those in my cabin on other cruise lines. Thanks

I've gotten a glass of water at one of the bars without a problem, bottled water is not part of the UBP, but I didn't have to pay for it. Soda is available with the UBP.

Norwegian's Ultimate Beverage Package includes a variety of spirits, cocktails, wines by the glass and bottled or draft beer up to and including $15 USD and unlimited fountain soda and juices at all bars, lounges, restaurants and the Great Stirrup Cay. A 20% discount will be applied to all bottles of wine purchased on board.

Huh? Half the size they should be? What does "should be" mean, exactly?

Honestly, no comparison to NCL is necessary. Princes charges 57 cents for a 16 oz bottle of water when you pre-order a 12 pack @ $3.90.

That's cheaper than the vending machine in your office. Find me one other item on the ship you can get for $3.90...

I meant that you can't directly compare the princess bottles 1:1, since they are half the size as the NCL bottles. So comparing the 12 pack half liter on princess would be compared to a six pack on NCL-- and yes, I was still posting that it's a ridiculous difference, just that you have to compare apples to apples.

I've never taken a case of water on board, but I find this policy outrageous due to the cost of NCL's bottled water on board. It won't cost me personally as I can get free water in the Casino due to my status with CAS.

If NCL is not going to allow someone to carry on bottled water they should make the on board price more reasonable.

Ok...

Princess

12 pk 16.9 oz @ $3.90: 202.8 oz, $0.0192 per oz.

NCL

24 pk x 33.8 oz @ $ 70.74: 811.2 oz, $0.0872 per oz.

Thanks for that. Can you confirm if soda includes soda water other than just soft drinks?

Sorry I don't drink soda water, so can't speak to that.

This is what NCL's website says is included in the soda package, so I would guess they would all be included in the UBP: Includes: Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist, Mt. Dew, Ginger Ale, Tonic water, Club Soda.

Well, I for one am one of those silly people that have read every single 51 pages so far. I am a member, I do read daily, I am a very seasoned cruiser. I do sail with NCL being the second line I've ever sailed, and I DO care, but have not posted one because there is nothing I can say that had not already been said multiple times in many different ways. I am a huge water bottle drinker at home, mainly I moved from NY being a person who kept a pitcher of ice tea in the fridge, to moving to Virginia and keeping bottled water in the fridge and freezer because It will keep it colder than the tap with ice would. When I am on a cruise, I have a mug type container fill it with ice tea, take it with me, because I drink a huge amount partially due to being a diabetic and partly due to being hot. When I can not get ice tea I will make a cup of hot tea and pour it over ice. I do improvise. As far as soda. I've killed my body drinking oodles and oodles of pepsi for a very long period of time many years ago. I myself, would die of thirst before I drank a coke or mountain due etc. So shoot me now, but I tend to cross each bridge as I come to it. If I try to cross a bridge to soon, I often find that when I get there the bridge is no longer there! I will NOT pay the now price of NCL's bottled water unless I've fallen overboard and waiting to be rescued and dying of thirst and someone throws me a bottle but says I need to pay for it when I get back on board. Unless of course the sharks get me first. I do agree, NCL has stopped many things that I enjoyed. No sense in making a list, we all have different things we like and dislike that we have lost. I feel for everybody's opinion.

You do understand the concept of statistical sampling, correct?

No, obviously from the length and breadth of your post, you have no clue about it. All that research to arrive at a totally erroneous conclusion.

Right...you don't have to complain, but the lack of compaint is implied acceptance. Just makes the eventual complaint ring hollow.

There are more than 1,000 posts, not to mention e-mails, tweets, and phone calls from a relatively small group of CC members WHO ACTUALLY ARE AWARE OF THE CHANGES. Remember that Norwegian has not notified all of their upcoming passengers so this is not a representative sampling of those who will be affected. Does anyone remember if there was an equal "uproar" over taking food back to the cabin?

I work for a VERY large travel agency consortium that books LOTS of NCL, and to my knowledge they have not notified us of the change, therefore none of our clients would be aware. I, as an agent, only know because of the boards :D So yes, we may be a small percentage, but once the larger percentage starts finding out there will be LOTS of complaints to NCL via many different channels. I know people who use other chat forums, social media etc instead of cruise critic - I'm sure there is PLENTY of chatter in those channels as well!

Not when there was an alternative to the high priced product being offered. Now that they've cornered the market the people that used to bring it on are of course going to complain since they have no alternative.

In theory, yes. But I don't know how to do it from the app, which was why I asked.
