Raise in beverage prices. Shouldn't we be grandfathered in?

There are still many ( top shelf) liquors that you would find at many land based places on the included ( 15.00) menu.

( Grey Goose, JW Black ) are two that I noticed.

Bigger ? is can this thread exceed the no water/soda one.

There are still some very good choices of liquor.

I wonder what DJ 1942 is now if Patron swill is $16.95

Used to be $11.75 and included in the UBP.

I don't mind paying a couple of extra bucks...

Im on he Breakaway tomorrow with UBP. Are you saying that a margaritta with Patron is now excluded?

What has me pissed off the most is that this isn't a general all around raising of prices. Call and premium drink prices stayed the same while "Super premium" drinks were raised by $6. That is a HUGE price increase.

According to the newest menus I saw, you'd have to pay $1.95 plus 18% to have a Patron margarita. [emoji34]

The UBP never specifies what liquor is included. I t specifies an amount, 15 bucks. I am sure when it went from 11 to 15, you demanded to pay anything over 11 because that was your contract:roll eyes:

Prices change all the time everywhere. It is what it is. The drink prices are high but thats life.

As far as the espresso martini, if it was in the higher price range, all you would have to do is request it be made with a lower price vodka and you'd be good to go.

I was wondering that with the dark and stormy. If I got it with a different rum that is part of the package would it then be included?

I am thinking that NCL's end game is going to the "open bar" concept on the Sky for the rest of the fleet. They are in fact calling it open bar in the latest round of perks, although the T&C still tout it as the UBP. I cannot see them going back to NOT giving free beverages considering that very few people would be interested in paying $16 or more for a call beverage. I just see this latest round of price increases as bringing the "included" list closer to that as on the Sky.

If the drink prices were lowered would the premise be that people who booked when the prices were higher should then be grandfathered to pay those higher prices?

When NCL made the Asian restaurants complimentary, did the people with existing bookings insist on paying anyway?

That is what happens when you make final payment on the cruise. They then sell cabins cheaper than you paid for and with your penalty you cannot gain.

What was what when I paid should still be there. If they started to charge for all meals including the main dining rooms should I have to suck that up?

Cancelling is not an option as I would be out $1600 in travel insurance. Yes its that much because of the value of my whole trip and why did I buy it now?? Pre existing conditions are covered if bought in 10 days.

In your analogy, they are giving people more for less. In this case its less than what I started with overall.

So you advocate a relationship that only and always benefits one party over the other? You insist on changes that benefit you, but you want to be protected from those that don't?

What if the Captain decides to retire? Do the have to tell him that he has to wait until everyone who has booked sails since he was the Captain when they booked and the people have a right to expect him to be there when they sail?

Seriously though...you should read the guest ticket contract to see specifically what your booking covers...and when. You are only promised that things won't change once you embark.

I did look over the ticket and I could not find anything. Is there something I missed?

I was on the Escape recently, and the Don Julio 1942 was nowhere to be found (at any price) And, as far as the new price of Patron Silver, I would hate to even ask what reposado or anejo is...

I booked when we actually all in cabin UBP and UDP without the gratuties to be paid but Im not paying an extra $2. I live in New York and I go out to dinners and I dont remember when I paid $17 for a Patron Margaritta. That is rediculous. I also see Dark and Stormy $17. Not doing that either.

Thank you for letting me know.

I have 56 nights booked on NCL 2017, if they handle this bad, those will be my last.

Wish they did like Celebrity, have one package "included", and offer people to upgrade to premium. And have higher end alcohol and coffee/water and such. Maybe an addition of 10$ pp/pd.

Well, yeah...

When you sign a contract you agree to a price, and the other party agrees to give you something in return. That something needs to be (and is) spelled out in the contract. You should have easily seen that. If not, what are you getting for your money?

They had it in the bar at Cagneys and the casino last time i was on her. not in the haven, which surprised me.

There is really an underlying issue here that I don't think anyone is recognizing.

With the continual "extension" of the Free At Sea promos, "everyone" has a drink package. Free drinks for everyone.

Meanwhile, the price of the drink package creeps up.

Meanwhile, the price of individual drinks creeps up.

Yet nobody cares because everyone has the drink package.

For now.

Eventually though, the "free" drink packages are going to come to an end and people will be left to deal with whatever they've managed to raise the package price to by then OR to pay the cost of whatever they've managed to raise the individual drink prices to by then.

And just like the lobster sitting in the slowly heating pot of water...it will be too late.

I honestly do not know of one single business, be it a hotel, resort, theatre, sports venue or anything else who has ever grandfathered when it comes to prices of things like drinks, food etc.

The difference between drink prices and an excursion is that you are making the purchase at a specific price. Once you have agreed with that price then they can't change it.

Unless you were given a list of drinks with prices when you booked and were asked to select which drinks you would like then they aren't compatible.

If I booked a restaurant for next Sunday and they introduced new menus and prices the day before, should I expect to get the old prices?

Edit to say that as you have the UBP, I believe that this can be cancelled if it no longer makes sense for you. I understand that it may make a difference to that decision, although you do only pay the excess over $15.

I certainly have more sympathy for people who have the UBP, and it could make more difference (when originally reading your message I read it that you were suggesting that people who have already booked the cruise should be grandfathered into the original prices per drink). However, all the terms say is that it is drinks to a certain amount, not specifying drinks.

Out of interest, what drinks have increased in price? I saw reference to this earlier but couldn't find details.

how many hotels, resorts, theaters, sport venues or anything else do you prepay for your drinks 6 months out.

I've been surprised that the promos lasted as long as they have. Granted, the costs are built into the fare (let's face it, NCL is a business - not a charity).

I don't drink much, so it wouldn't matter much to me without it (cruised that way for years and it was just fine). I think you are correct that it is concerning that if the promos go *poof*, suddenly we are facing drinks above $15 each.

If that happens, I have a feeling the outcry here on CC will make the soda/water thing look like a tea party. JMHO of course. ;)
