Hi All

Hundreds of folks from Pacific Princess at Edinburgh tattoo sitting out side

high on top of Edinburgh Castle watching the tattoo now,

and weather man has issued a warning for non stop rain for 48 hrs,

and boy is it raining, flowing like a river down the street just now.

yours Shogun

The Tattoo prides itself on never having had to cancel a performance due to weather.

I've been several times, in good weather and (VERY) bad. When it's raining, the merchants along the Royal Mile make a mint selling the little plastic rain tarps. I didn't enjoy it any the less for being all wrapped up in layers and layers of raincoats, and I'm already figuring out how to get back again sometime soon.

Four of us went. We booked the day privately and ended at the tattoo. The driving rain got us despite being bundled in multiple layers with rain gear as the outer covering. Of course we considered it a "bucket list" item, so we just endured. Other than one belligerent horse all participants acted like nothing was different

Special kudos to the Pacific Princess for having the buffet and a bar open until 1:30am to help attendees recover.

A tattoo is a military performance of music or display of armed forces in general. The term comes from the early 17th century Dutch phrase doe den tap toe ("turn off the tap"), a signal sounded by drummers or trumpeters to instruct innkeepers near military garrisons to stop serving beer and for soldiers to return to their barracks.

The tattoo was originally a form of military music, but the practice has evolved into more elaborate shows involving theatrics and musical performances. It is also used to designate military exhibitions such as the Royal International Air Tattoo.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an annual series of Military tattoos performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and International military bands, and display teams on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh. The event takes place annually throughout August as part of the wider Edinburgh Festival (a collective name for many independent festivals and events held in Edinburgh during August).
