Formal Nights Gone?

Hi we will be on the Reflection on Feb 25 and did I hear that Formal nights are eliminated? So is it the same dress code for the whole cruise?

 

Per Celebrity's website. Notice designer jeans (?) and jeans are even listed. Enjoy your Cruise.

 

What is the onboard dress code?

 

Formal Night gets a modern luxury reboot. Say goodbye to Formal Night, and hello to Evening Chic. It’s your time to shine—your way. Get glamorous. Get chic. Be sophisticated. Now, on up to two nights on every cruise, Evening Chic activities have been introduced, and Evening Chic attire has replaced Formal attire. While dressier than Smart Casual, Evening Chic is intended to be less dressy than Formal attire.

 

Women should feel comfortable wearing:

 

• A cocktail dress

• Skirt, pants or designer jeans with an elegant top

 

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

 

• Pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button-down shirt or sweater

• Optional sport coat or blazer

Evening Chic means that you can get glamorous and be sophisticated in your own way. If you would like to still wear a tuxedo or formal gown on Evening Chic nights, you absolutely should.

All cruises that are 7 nights or longer will feature two Evening Chic nights. Any cruise 6-nights or shorter will feature one Evening Chic night. All other nights of the cruise will feature Smart Casual attire. Celebrity Xpedition will continue to feature casual attire for the entire cruise.

 

Smart Casual attire can be enjoyed every other night of your cruise.

 

Women should feel comfortable wearing:

 

• Skirt, pants or jeans with a casual top

 

Men should feel comfortable wearing:

 

• Pants or jeans with a sport shirt that has sleeves

 

Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurant at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours. The dress code will be enforced at all restaurants. And guests are asked to follow the Smart Casual or Evening Chic dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances. The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening

On chic nights in Blu, I have seen men wearing a tux and others wearing tshirts and shorts. No consistency. Enjoy your cruise.

My 16 year old tried getting away with shorts and was told you go and change, this wasn't a chic night either. I had told him no shorts but he wouldn't listen to me - I'm glad he was told to change. Shorts for dinner is a no no for me.

Maybe at the buffet, but friends of ours were asked to leave the MDR, the husband was wearing shorts. We just sailed the Eclipse, returning 12/21, and most people were elegantly dressed in the evenings. Didn't see any jeans, saw a few tuxes. Most men had a suit or sport jacket and tie on "evening chic" nights.

You can sure eat at the buffet in shorts. Also I have heard that you can wear short at The Lawn Club Grill in the evenings. I would check with the maitre d' when making your reservation just to make sure.

A friend of ours was joining us in the sky lounge during the elite cocktail hour and had on dress shorts and a polo shirt. Even there, he was told no shorts -- and made to go change if he wanted to partake. They explained that it was the same dress code that applied to the dining rooms. Although, I swear I have gone in there wearing jeans before ... guess they were presentable.

So just what are "dress shorts"? I've never heard the term before.

Jeans are fine.

Shorts are not.

But miniskirts and kilts are fine and can be the same length as shorts, for those who do not want to cover their legs.

 

It does not say anything in the dress code about hairy legs and whether or not one would need to shave them. :D

We do too and if we were the only two on the whole ship that did so be it!

Same here. We always dress formally.

 

Shorts are shorts. If casual night attire states no shorts I'm pretty sure it means all shorts. just my interpretation of the policy.

 

There are always people who ignore the rules.

Just got off the Christmas cruise on the Summit. I loved the Chic dress code. Ate in the MDR on the first night and next day for lunch in shorts and the place didn't burn down. Wore jeans for the other 3 dinners we ate there, 2 of which were Chic nights. Clothing I saw ran the gamut. Very few tuxes. I saw a teenage boy wearing a suit that had matching shorts in the hall in front. To my knowledge, he got in just fine.

 

I'm guessing the select dining crowd is more laid back. Looking at some of the dining pictures, some of the ladies dresses were far tackier than any shorts a man could wear.
