Denny01 Posted March 1, 2017 #101 Share Posted March 1, 2017 I agree with an earlier post hat it's when we pull up to the ship and first see Her. It always gives me a thrill......followed by the pain of waiting in some line, sometimes short sometimes chaotic. But just exciting stepping up to the ship. Here are my favorite sites while on cruise: 1. Entering and leaving Stockholm. Unbelievably beautiful small green islands with classic homes and little docks. 2. Sailing through the Beagle Chamnel after leaving Ushuaia Snow and ice covered mountains lining the channel with waterfalls and glaciers feeding into it. Much like Alaska but even more exotic. 3. The fall colors and small towns lining the St Lawrence Seaway leaving Quebec City. Just fantastic. We are all so lucky to be able to experience these. diesel1973 Posted March 1, 2017 #103 Share Posted March 1, 2017 Mine is to be up at the Sunset Bar after dinner to watch the stars, the full moon, the twinkling lights of the port we just left, and if I am lucky a shooting star. I order a glass of Port or Cognac, light up a fine cigar and enjoy the night. I keep saying to myself "Do I have to go home??"
cruisefam38 Posted March 1, 2017 #104 Share Posted March 1, 2017 Such a pleasantly happy thread! One feels the spirit lift. Once this past Holiday Season, one on the songs helped me realize some of my best memories are from travel with family and friends, and specifically from cruising. Pickels Posted March 1, 2017 #109 Share Posted March 1, 2017 What is your favorite moment of any cruise? I know, hard to pick one, but for me it is simple. After boarding and before muster, sometime after rooms have been released, I love to take about 15-20 minutes out and just sit on my balcony, wine glass in hand and melt. After the stress of travel and onboarding, and the excitement of a first exploration of the ship, nothing is better. Like many of you, I work a high stress job. That little point for me is where I feel my vacation really starts, that I can relax with no greater decision ahead than; shall I have escargot or a crab cake for my starter tonight? For me, it is literally a physical sensation where all my stress melts away and feels so good! That's my favorite, although what comes after is great. What's yours? When I'm walking up the gangplank, and I heard that infamous "Bong-Bong" on the ship.
Scotico Posted March 1, 2017 #110 Share Posted March 1, 2017 My favorite moment is the following morning when I do not have to hit the snooze on the alarm. Someone mentioned, is the sunset bar a designated smoking area? I have allergies to the smoke and would love to enjoy sitting up there with a drink. diesel1973 Posted March 1, 2017 #111 Share Posted March 1, 2017 The port side is the smoking area and the starboard is the non-smoking. There are comfortable chairs and tables provided. On some nights there is entertainment(guitar player) also. I am speaking of S class ships. The most peaceful and friendly (sometimes windy) area of the ship!!! Rare Hlitner Posted March 1, 2017 #112 Share Posted March 1, 2017 We have been on more then 100 cruises (some over 2 months long) and never get tired of being a ship. Even after all those cruises, we have two equally favorite moments. 1. When we first step onto the ship from the gangplank. and 2. When we feel the thrusters pushing us away from the embarkation port. Hank
Marelaine Posted March 2, 2017 #113 Share Posted March 2, 2017 Every night, we sit on our veranda or at one of the outdoor bars, favorite drink in hand and watch the sun set, watching for that slight little bounce up before it sinks into the horizon. Takes my breath away. My one favorite moment was hitting a progressive penny slot machine for $2800 at 11 pm on the last night of a Royal Princess cruise. I had paid my dues every night of the cruise and passed that particular machine by, but no one was playing it and it was my last hurrah before going to bed. 1chigirl Posted March 2, 2017 #116 Share Posted March 2, 2017 My favorite is watching the different ships line up and leave port everglades and the horns blowing and all the passengers waving at each other as they pass on their way out to sea, and the folks on the beach and in the highrises waving at you I always wave back😁
Rare Bimmer09 Posted March 2, 2017 #117 Share Posted March 2, 2017 My favorite moment is always the same. When the last mooring rope is winched in and the ship moves and heads out to sea. Our cruise is underway! I agree with a previous poster that having a crowd of wavers on the rocks at Ft. Lauderdale just adds to the magic of the moment. I have often been one of the wavers. Bon voyage to everyone who sets sail on these stunning modern ships! Norris

cruisefam38 Posted March 3, 2017 #122 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Host Walt: Thank you for your very positive feedback. Without Russterus starting this thread, stories like the ones shared by Braveheart11 and vtcruising, and all the other folks who shared their cruising moments, I wouldn't have touched on similar places in myself. Being able to cruise truly is a privilege, threads such as this make that clear.
