The Fun Researcher Posted January 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2017 We're booked on the Equinox in August, and I'm REALLY looking forward to cruising on an S class ship. I've been eyeing them up for a while and overall they get great reviews here. So, just for fun, what are your favorite aspects of S-class ships? The things that I see (and I hope I'm right)... 1) They still focus on the MDR. I don't want to pay up-charges for specialty restaurants, and we enjoy getting to know our waiters and assistant waiters... 2) The tranquil look of the ship, and the more upscale decor 3) Great looking pool deck and the green areas... ...so, help me fill out all the great things that I'm missing. :) Thanks, Dan

kqcallahan Posted January 21, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Glass blowing on the ships that have it......amazing, beautiful, entertaining Does this happen on all ships? Don't remember seeing it on the Reflection a few years ago...but on Silhouette in April maybe?
The Fun Researcher Posted January 22, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted January 22, 2017 Does this happen on all ships? Don't remember seeing it on the Reflection a few years ago...but on Silhouette in April maybe? I know that the Equinox has it. Ships that don't have the glass blowing have the Lawn Club Grill instead I think. Dan

The Fun Researcher Posted January 22, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted January 22, 2017 For me as a melanoma patient, the Solarium I bet! Praying that all works out well for you. It's one of the reasons that I'm also looking at this class ship for Alaska, but for different reasons. It would be nice to still have a nice place to swim even in cooler weather. jg51 Posted January 22, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) We have been aboard the Equinox for 41 nights -- 28 (13 + 15) via back-to-back cruises and 13 more, three years later. Most memorable were the following: 1. (Non-theatre) musical performances of extremely high quality -- e.g., pianist, combo, "party band." 2. MDR menus with a huge number of choices. --- In addition to four or five "available every day" starters, there are about six starters that vary from day to day (usually two salads, two soups, and two appetizers). --- In addition to three "available every day" entrees (salmon, chicken, steak), there are at least six entrees that vary from day to day (always at least one vegetarian dish, at least one pasta dish, at least one seafood dish, and at least two meat dishes [e.g., poultry, beef/veal/lamb, etc.]) --- In addition to a group of "available every day" desserts, there are at least two desserts that vary from day to day. 3. Buffet restaurant has a vast number of choices, laid out in a pleasant, roomy atmosphere. While there are a couple of sections that are side-to-side, old-fashioned cafeteria style, with crew members serving some items, most of the space consists of modern self-serve "islands." It's a classy atmosphere without being pretentious/affected. . Edited January 22, 2017 by jg51
cruisebunny32 Posted January 22, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 22, 2017 What I love about S class ships at the ships are the biggest in the Celebrity Fleet, but they built it in a way that it still has a small ship "feel". So many places to go and so many small nooks and cranies-you can just get so lost in her. There is a little bit for everyone. Quiet and peaceful areas like the spa, indoor pool, library and game rooms. Theater and dance club for the evenings, along with the Casino Lots of shops Entertainment all day. And Grass that you can play games on!!! My favorite places are: Sunset bar area-beyond the lawn there is a bar that is AFT. It is so nice, partially covered. has wicker chairs and even some fire pits at night. Lawnclub grill-upcharge restaurant, but you have to do this!!! awesome food and entertainment Martini Bar-also entertainment from Bartenders. Lots of fun and awesome Martinis!!! Buffet area-very open and so many choices!!! how do you choose??? To answer the original posters question: Yes There is a main dining room that you can go to every night and have the same table and get the great service every night. You do not have to pay for any of the other restaurants if you don't want to. Celebrity has several on boad their ships, and each ship has different ones. And you are correct. Reflection and Silhouette have Lawn club grill, the other 3-Equinox, Eclipse and Solstice have the glass blowing.

Shep_Proudfoot Posted January 22, 2017 #15 Share Posted January 22, 2017 Not so sure about your first point. Silhouette MDR was awful last year. Service and food were both at or near the bottom of all of my cruises. We ended up in premium dining most nights. Most everything else was passable to excellent. My favorite aspect is the Lawn Club deck; relaxing and tranquil. However I did not appreciate how Silhouette had more premium, pay areas than did Equinox. Equinox may be the same now for all I know. Forums Sorry about your poor experience. I've been on Equinox 2x and Reflection once. I've never had a bad meal in the MDR. Of course I do not consider myself a gourmand. Just can tell the difference between good and bad food, and these meals are overwhelmingly good. As another CCer posted, there is enough variety so that you can find something that you do like. Just go and enjoy your cruise. People will always find something to be critical of, don't let it bother you so much that it ruins your cruise. emilygrace Posted January 22, 2017 #23 Share Posted January 22, 2017 I love the bathrooms in the cabins. So much storage room, and it is cabinets with doors, not just shelves with your stuff sitting there in plain view. I also like the outdoor dining area at the back of the ship, beyond the buffet. Great place to sit and eat and watch the scenery.

helen haywood Posted January 23, 2017 #25 Share Posted January 23, 2017 This is on all Celebrity ships, not just Solstice Class, but it always impresses me. The public bathrooms (can only speak to the ladies' rooms) have orchids and rolled real cotton hand cloths in addition to paper towels. I was surprised on Oasis the ladies' rooms had those industrial brown paper towels!
