If NCL offered completely non-smoking cruises, would you book?

There are very few areas where you can smoke onboard to begin with, so as long as people are following the rules, I see no reason it should adversely affect non-smoking guests.

I have serious reactions to cigarette smoke. We were on the Norwegian Jewel for a week last year an there was no enforcement of set smoking areas. It was unbearable. I ended up with an upper respiratory infection and was sick for almost 6 weeks.

We cruise on cost and itinerary and would love there to be no smoking but accept that others would want to smoke. I wish smokers would be confined to a single room with an expellair with an efficient scrubber.

 

 

Ditto!! Us too on all accounts! I see people cruise one cruise line or one ship only regardless of where it's going. We book based on itinerary, sale dates and cost. We've gotta juggle work and kids' school schedule so not nearly as flexible.

 

Smoke free or smoke restricted sounds nice as well. My husband enjoys the casino and since there's usually smoking allowed in there I don't go with him. He dislikes the smoking but it usually seems that all casinos practically equate a smoky environment.

 

I'd book a non smoking cruise in a heartbeat but wouldn't want to pay more for it.

Can anyone tell me what happened if people were caught on the Paradise smoking? Were they taken off the ship or just wrist slapped? Seems hard to control short of guests turning other people in..

 

 

I wondered the same thing! Seems like people refuse to follow rules anymore so I could see someone intentionally booking a non smoking cruise and choosing to openly smoke just to be obnoxious. Good question! How would they enforce it?

What I find interesting is the fact that a smoker would pay more to keep smoking but a non-smoker will not. These are the same non-smokers that say if the casinos were smoke free they would gamble more. I believe that is the exact reason NCL allows smoking in the casinos because a smoker will max bet all day/all night and a non-smoker will continue to play their 30 cent/60 cent bets while taking up prime real estate in the casino. I see it all the time when I venture into the non-smoking section of the BA which is empty most of the time unlike the smoking section that you have to sometimes wait to get a machine.

 

Trust me, CAS knows exactly what they are doing.

I guess the 2 types of people you describe have different priorities.

 

Some might even say it's the 30 cent non smokers who has it all together

I go to Las Vegas and other gambling locations and the number of smokers, whether they play the maximum or 30 cents a hand (yes, many of them play only 30 cents a hand as well), have declined drastically.

The reason is probably because non-smokers aren't causing a problem. Non-smokers aren't endangering the life of anyone. Non-smokers aren't causing property damage.

I think if the casinos were non-smoking, most non-smokers wouldn't have an issue with outside smoking areas, since they could avoid them.

I think you would be surprised. With so many families cruising today, they don't want their children exposed to smoke. Not to mention, non-smokers who don't want to have to be around (smell) it.

I wonder if NCL ever looked into having specific cruises be 100% non-smoking? If they did:

IMHO it's the casinos on these newer ships that are open air and situated right in the middle of other areas that are fun to be in...

 

For example on the BA there are several bars and seating areas plus le bistro (at least partially) that are basically (unofficially ) off limits to non smokers ...at least those non smokers who want to avoid smoke anyway

 

Also in the ba casino the non smoking areas are only feet away from the smoking area with no enclosure at all

 

The simple fix is 2 casinos and/or floor to ceiling plexiglas versus 4 foot high plexiglass...that is what the engineers should be designing but they are not ....

And it's not like ncl and the ship designers are oblivious to the smoking complaints

Having read this and way too many other smoking threads all over CC :o (hate this new emoji) I must say this is a no win situation for the cruise lines . They get ***** either way . My issue is when then don't want to enforce their own rules .

Secondly as a non-smoker the situation is much better then before . In truth the changes have been relatively quick and significant .
