I thought the proportion of smokers was greatly reduced now and smokers were a minority group?

If so the number of smokers not going on cruises wouldn't be that big and non smokers who hate smoke and who don't go on cruises may take up the smokers numbers.

 

I do think that vapours (fake cigarettes) should be allowed inside. And if there was a non smoking cruise ship I think the fake cigarettes should be allowed.

I have already read a related post from someone saying they would have a Vape ready to haul out if someone else saw him smoking his real cigarette . Now if people smoke their Vapes in their own cabins, that would be their secret .

 

I think many non smokers just do not understand that. When we were on HAL a few years ago, same with Princess, they had a night or two of NON SMOKING casino play. The casino was almost empty. As an x smoker, I understand both sides, but I don't think many realize how hard it is to go from smoking to being a non smoker.

HAL's Veendam was packed on the well advertised smoke-free night . I was surprised how just the smallest trace of smoke remained .:)

Celebrity seems to do OK with its policies which apply worldwide as far as I know.

No, and no. While I don't smoke personally, I often travel with people who do. There are very few areas where you can smoke on board to begin with, so as long as people are following the rules, I see no reason it should adversely affect non-smoking guests.

 

 

The smoke from the inside spaces like the Casino can be smelled through the open area near the casino. It is very nasty smell and not fun to be inhaling the smoke as you have to pass through the casino on your way to another inside space.

I don't think anyone should have a problem with smokers I quit smoking 2 years ago but don't care if someone else does lots of non-smokers on cruise ships do things that I can't stand but I do not tell them about their self

1. The person that puts on sunblock up wind of you and coats your sunglasses with the mist.

2. The people that bring their children to the casino bar and use up all of the bar stools

3. The people that have lunch by the pool and leave their plate and cup and napkin under their chair that blows all over the deck

 

I could go on and on but everyone has the right to be them self smoking or not

I totally agree with you with regard to aftershave and perfume, but let's not add flavored vapor to the mix. Many of us were run off some slot machines in Las Vegas, because this young lady's vapor smelled so bad....worse than any over dose of perfume I've ever smelled.

They do have one of the most restrictive non-smoking policies out there, including non-smoking in casinos.

I guess you do not realize that the sun deck is non smoking so nobody at all should have been smoking in my vicinity

 

you did not fully comprehend my post it appears....

 

I reduced it by an amount that reflexed my inability to enjoy the sun deck due to ncl not enforcing their rules

 

 

Not that it matters but I reduced it $15...there were 2 of us btw so that comes to $7.50 each

 

To make it known to ncl that they didn't enforce their rules...

 

I also told the deck officer

 

I also told guest services

 

 

I know you are the type that makes your own rules based on your own needs....but I prefer to follow rules and to use any available appropriate means to fix problems

 

And on ncl they allow you to reduce dsc if you have a service issue so I did exactly what ncl expected me to do

 

So actually you have absolutely no reason to question it.

 

So to recap....I did 4 things....

 

1. Told the pax it was non smoking on the sun deck...

 

2. Told the deck officer

 

3. Told guest services

 

4. Reduced dsc by an appropriate amount

 

You probably think I should have said and done nothing but just gotten up and left correct?

Why? Because I wasn't breaking any rules. Oh and the sun deck is non smoking and it was ncl who was breaking their rules by not enforcing the no smoking rules.

I'm Elite on Celebrity and can attest to the fact that there is no smoking in their casinos.

We cruise on cost and itinerary and would love there to be no smoking but accept that others would want to smoke. I wish smokers would be confined to a single room with an expellair with an efficient scrubber.

 

 

Not quite NCL but in the same corporation, Oceania ships have a glass walled enclosed smoking area in one corner of the Horizon's Bar. The only other part of their ships where smoking is allowed is at one outdoor nook in a pool deck corner.

You are wrong there, I live only a few minutes from Empire city and I can count on one hand how many times I have gone there. You wanna know why I do not go there? Because I cannot smoke while I am gambling. Simple as that.

 

 

Sure. Because you have a choice you go to the casino you prefer. The only way a no smoking ban works is when there is no choice. Take Ohio... you can't smoke in restaurants, bars, casinos, etc. if you live in a city on the border; no big deal, can go gamble in Kentucky or Indiana. But if you live in Columbus or in a central city... you aren't going to drive 2-3 hours each way to go to a casino. That leaves you with the choice of not gambling or going to a smoke free casino and going outside to smoke.

 

There is an overlap between people who smoke, drink, and gamble. So naturally there is a higher percentage of the casino crowd that smokes than the general population. And, honestly, I've never gotten into gambling because of the smoking. We've been to vegas and the casinos are disgusting with all the smoke. Gambling became legal right around the time smoking was banned so until a few years ago the only casino choices were border states where the casinos were full of smoke.

 

I think that in the past casinos were a big turn off to non smokers due to the smoke but in the future it will be less of an issue due to all the states that are smoke free now. I think a smoke free cruise has much more potential moving forward. Honestly, while I would book a smoke free cruise; I don't need the whole ship to be smoke free. I hate the smell and avoid it but I get that a smoker won't book a cruise if they can't smoke somewhere. But making the interior smoke free except for possibly a walled off room that vents directly outside would be nice.

 

And on the flip side of the coin. Cincinnati is a border city; both Indiana and Kentucky are considered part of the greater Cincinnati area. And they are both hurting lately. We used to go to both for restaurants and entertainment from time to time; but with the no smoking in Ohio it's sooooo much nicer to do things here now. When the ban was proposed they were worried the bar scenes in Cincinnati would die and take off in Kentucky and the opposite happened.

Both my wife and I are former smokers, and now prefer a non-smoking environment. However, for a cruise, the itinerary is the most important thing. Though given the choice, I'd pick non-smoking.

But there are plenty of places outside.

Smoking areas on the S-class ships -- Solstice, Equinox, Eclipse & Silhouette:

Deck 12 (Pool Deck) – Port (left)-side only – outside just forward of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 14 (Lido Deck forward/mid-ship) – Starboard (right)-side only – outside at the Mast Bar

Deck 15 (Lawn Club Deck aft) – Port (left)-side only – outside at the Sunset Bar – This is the area where Cigar & Pipe smoking is permitted.

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck mid-ship) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the mid-ship elevators

Deck 5 (Entertainment Deck forward) – Port (left)-side only – outside of the forward elevators/Theatre

 

So it is enough for smokers even if Casino is smoke free.

 

Smoking areas on Royal Princess (as well as on most of others now)

Deck 7 (Promenade) port side Aft (small area)

Casino (some days and in a very limited area)

Churchill's cigar club - this is really awful. Gas chambers for light occasional smokers.

I smoke but my DW does not, the non-smoking casino does not bother me in the least. The only downer is that on our upcoming cruise on the Reflection you have to actually go up a deck to get to a smoking area, I found that sort of weird why not have a smoking area outside close to the casino at least ? Our favorite bar on the Reflection is the sunset bar at the back of the ship, you can smoke on one side of it we love sitting there playing cards or dice and the service is great and there tons of people to socialize with. On our last NCL cruise on the Jewel the "same" bar had its smoking area up a set of stairs from the bar so there was no real service, it was more like a pit stop for people than a bar area. We are booked on the Escape next year I am hoping it has a smoking area with good bar service that people actually congregate at.

The examples that you listed are annoying but they aren't potentially fatal like 2nd hand smoke is.
