If NCL offered completely non-smoking cruises, would you book?

Thought all posts on smoking were supposed to be on the smoking thread.

Not on the NCL forum. I think Princess forum has that.

I, for one, am so happy that this utterly pointless thread was resurrected. Now we can have another couple dozen "yes, no" posts.

For shame.

I totally disagree. It's not lack of empathy for a different lifestyle. Smoking is a health hazard---not a lifestyle--and endangers everyone around that smoker. As a retired RN, I've seen the results of years of smoking and exposure to second hand smoke first hand. I've seen lives end when they should have had years ahead to enjoy. No, it's not a lifestyle. It is a true health hazard and should be banned on the cruise ships, as it has already been done in restaurants and in all public areas. In many places smoking isn't even allowed in their parking lots around schools and hospitals. So why should we have to tolerate someone exposing us on cruise ships? Now, I am a true cruise addict and have no intention of ever giving up cruising, but I will celebrate the day I can walk freely through a cruise ship casino or everywhere out on the pool deck without being assaulted by cigarette smoke. And in this day of increased awareness of health hazards, I would guess the majority of cruisers would feel the same.

If the majority of the cruisers felt as you did thee would be no smoking on cruises. One of the cruiselines actually tried and abandoned it very quickly. I have however noticed that there are non-smokers who walk through the smoking side of the deck and then complain about the smoke instead of walking on the other side (I think most ships is't starboard). There are plenty of areas to avoid the smoke on a ship if you were not looking to complain. I quit smoking 15 years ago but I don't begrudge others for wanting to smoke --

So to answer the OP questions:

1. Doesn't make any difference

2. Definitely NO

If only they could invent a little device that would produce nicotine vapor that you could hold your hand the operator of a batteries the world would be great

A "similar" device has served me well for over 4 years on NOT smoking traditional cigarettes! Although I am a great advocate for those that do smoke in the casino....or in other designated areas of the ship. I DO remember when I too was addicted....and as long as they make it legal/ok to do so.....who am I to complain?

If you want a smoke free environment, there are many cruise lines that offer this......

I'm a former smoker, and now really sensitive to the smell of smoke, it just makes me nauseous - but I don't think a completely smoke free ship is necessary. But I do wish all indoor areas were smoke-free (other than maybe some closed off lounges). My hope is that they will eventually ban smoking from the casino (allow e-cigs as a compromise?), I have to quarantine any clothes that I wear to the casino or my whole closet feels like it reeks of smoke afterwards. As for balcony smoking, I don't really care, maybe make port or starboard completely smoke free and allow smokers to rent rooms on the smoking side. (Maybe they already do this, no clue, I haven't cruised in a few years!)

The problem is that smoke leaves the smoking areas and travels to the non-smoking areas. It's a design/engineering problem with many ships.

If smoking and smoke was contained to the smoking areas and non-smokers still complained, I'd side with the smokers...even though their choice to smoke is deadly. Without proper ventilation/filtration, I'd feel badly for the employees, though.

That is exactly what the non smokers do. They come into the smoking section of the Breakaway and whine & wave their arms at me. That is when I blow smoke in their direction and politely tell them the non smoking section is on the other side. They know this but they prefer to make a scene.

Maybe we need a marijuana smoking area heroin shooting up gallery a crack den and maybe a drunk tank? Every rotten vice can have their own little area where they can go kill themselves and I think we should probably keep it down in the engine room where we don't have to see this deplorable toxic way of life :D seriously smoking is gross why would you put it on anyone else?

If someone decides to play in the smoking section, that is on them not me. If they choose to wave their arms at me like they are bringing in a 747 well....they deserve it.

Admittedly I've never been on a Norwegian ship. On the Carnival ship that I take it's 100% impossible to avoid the smoke because they require you to walk through the casino to get to the dining room and this casino has smoke it so thick it looks like a fog

Yes and Yes

We were on the Carnival Paradise when it was a non-smoking ship and LOVED it!

We were also on the Paradise and loved it. However, that would not be the sole reason to select a cruise. After going once we would be looking for a different itinerary to be a repeat customer.

Probably because in any other public venue in the USA, smoking is banned because it is a health hazard. It should also be banned on cruise ships. I'm not trying to be high and mighty, just stating s fact.

So why did you resurrect this dead thread yesterday? To put your virtuousness on display for a bunch of people you literally have nothing in common with?

Unreal.

I didn't resresurrect is thread. I simply answered the questions as to whether or not I would be willing to pay for a cruise on this line that had non-smoking nothing wrong with that. Virtuous really not liking cancer is virtuous I'll take that virtual all day long and you can keep your second hand smoke in your house and out of my lungs how's that for virtuous?

Yes I would book a non smoking cruise! How about making the majority non smoking to cater to the majority of the population? And have only 15% smoking? Turn the tables. The trouble with having only one ship non smoking out of hundreds of itineraries is that very few people can plan their lives around that one occurrence...

I wonder if NCL ever looked into having specific cruises be 100% non-smoking? If they did:

1. Would you book one?

2. Would you be willing to pay a premium to book a cruise that was 100% smoke-free?

Absolutely I would book a cruise that was non-smoking. And absolutely not what I pay a premium to book a cruise that was 100% smoke-free. The majority of restaurants and cocktail lounges that I frequent are all non-smoking and why should I have to pay more money not have smoke in my lungs.

I think all casino should be smoke-free as well.
